Virginia has rolled out a smartphone app to automatically notify people if they might have been exposed to the coronavirus, becoming the first U.S. state to use new pandemic technology created by Apple and Google.

The article does a far better explanation than I could give. But it apparently is based off Bluetooth signals and not GPS.

So do any of my fellow VA residents plan to download this app?

Those in diffrent states would you download the version your state offered?

I don't think I am too far into conspiracy theory feeling that some posters here and elected officials would like to see a federally required tracking app.

Yeah, I saw a piece on this a few days ago. Apparent equipped phones within blue tooth range exchange random (but unique) codes. If you are diagnosed you enter a code into the app and it notifies everyone else that they should get tested. What could possibly go wrong.

I think something like this was rolled out in either Taiwan or China and it helped significantly with contact tracing and proper quarantining.

As long as it remains voluntary I take no major issue with having such an app for those wishing to download it.

Sounds like a way to easily have "The talk" for herpes as well. :lol:
 
There's not a ton of detail on how the app functions but it looks to me like that's going to give out just absurd numbers of false positives.

I tend to agree. I think a lot of it or at least in VA has to with the recent spikes in cases in certian regions. It wouldn't surprise me if this app is taken down to be tweaked in a few weeks.
 
I'm so glad I never bought a smart phone and never will.
