I'm sure there are a lot of anti-maskers just like the OP running around. If I may ask one favor. As a healthcare worker, if you're vehemently anti-mask and you get COVID, please just stay home. You obviously don't give much of a **** about your fellow Americans. But the hospitals are staffed with professionals who do. And their time would be better served helping the victims of your childish tantrum.

Wearing a cloth mask protects others and minimally protects the wearer. When a person talks, sneezes, coughs, or even breathes, saliva particles are expelled into the air. Those particles become airborne inside where there is poor ventilation and forced air from furnace/air conditioning units help move those particles within the environment. They also are airborne outside and can be caught on the wind to travel greater distances, but that can be a benefit too because it keeps them from lingering nearby.

When breathing in while wearing a mask, some air comes in from the sides of the mask. Saliva particles containing virus molecules can be breathed in from the sides, or they can even land in people's eyes. When breathing out, coughing, sneezing, or talking while wearing a mask, most of those saliva particles are blocked inside the mask, so they do not reach the air to become airborne. It is not 100% effective as some, smaller particles get through the mask or out the sides, but it is 50-75% effective. The saliva particles that get out tend to not go as far, so social distancing also becomes more effective. By wearing a mask, you protect your fellow Americans. If you truly care about your country, it is your duty to wear a mask and protect the people around you.

It does appear that as you aggregate the number of people who wear masks up, that the spread of covid can be reduced.

Have you ever noticed how there are "guests"? I read this forum a long time. Then when I signed up I used an email that never recieved the confirmation, I was in limbo for months. I sent emails, no response. Finally some moderator fixed it for me and I was able to post.

Now if you have to make up stories to fit your narrative, I guess it's not that surprising. The alt-right would be nothing without it's CTs for fuel.

Then, the selfish a*Sholes return to their hometowns and reverse any positive impact of the order.

No. Arizona has a verry Trumpian governor. We were the last to shut down and the first to re-open. Big mistakes. Arizona became an American virus hot spot. Maricopa County (greater Phoenix) became one of the top three most infected counties in the US. Sumbtiches here wouldn't wear masks, wouldn't social distance. We all paid the price and we are still paying the price for their disregard for the wellbeing of their fellow citizens.

Eventually, the governor had no choice but to order a partial reopening walkback. The governor didn't wear a mask and didn't support ordering a statewide mask law.

Businesses, medical professionals, citizens complained that one hell of a lot of Arizonans were not wearing masks or social distancing. The governor, unable to ignore the skyrocketing increase in COVID cases and deaths, finally began to encourage mask wearing and social distancing. Next the governor lifted his ban on cities determining their own face mask laws. (Which is an improvement, but that is the best you can hope for with a Trumpublican governor who doesn't have the cajones to man up and mandate a state law.)

Eventually - with municipal laws requiring face masks and a return to partial shutdown - the number of COVID-19 positive have leveled off.

State testing remains unsatisfactory. The governor announced a drive-up testing day in part of the city. Cars lined up for miles and people waited - some sick, some with COVID - in their cars for up to 8 hours in 110 degree heat to get tested.

It's been a manmade cluster**** here. We do know that masks and social distancing work to reduce the spread of COVID. We have seen it work. It could be much better if the governor would mandate a state mask requirement.

I heard an anecdote about NY first responders having a lower infection rate than the general population. They attributed the wearing of masks (since they were unable to social distance and do their jobs) for the lower rate.

If it works for first responders I'm going to ignore internet experts regardless of how logical or common sensical they think their talking points are.

It also has to do with the type of mask they are wearing.
putting a piece of cloth over your face with 0 filters are not going to work.

Sorry to hear it isn't helping yet. But since the virus can take 2 weeks to appear, a lot of the new cases were probably contracted before the mask requirement. Hang in there. I've heard it takes 3 to 4 weeks before you see a difference.
