If someone has to be laid off, something temporarily is better than nothing, is the only point I see.
I support Unemployment Insurance, because stuff happens to people, and they may need help for a period during a tough time such as a lay off, and government by the people should support that, but fortunately I've never had to collect it.. I'm just saying here that you (generally speaking) can't call something else a socialist benefit (or worse), and not that. I know employers aren't happy about paying that tax. By the way, I do not support free college other than what may already be offered limitedly. Though student debt is out of control.
No matter how you slice and dice it, paying specifically for Medicare, SSI and even unemployment is not welfare!
YOU do NOT get unemployment if you didn't work.
