Besides being an incompetent, pathological liar? One reason is that if it DID turn out to be an attack, he could brag that he said it before others, the fake news was wrong and he was right. Sort of like the gamble he lost on hydroxychlorquine, that he was so ready to say how he'd been right about early if it had turned out to work.

Normally, you'd think a president just making up lies about an attack like that would have the country attack them strongly, but it's a real commentary on trump supporters that that's not the case with them. As I've said before, they just don't care, because why they support him is who he's against.

But if he makes 1000 of these unsupported claims and even 1 of them turns out to be true then his supports will agree with his claims of having been the ONLY one to see the truth and they will continue to happily follow their prophet off the cliff

2000+ tons of confiscated ammonium nitrate confirmed by Lebanon as the root of the horrible explosion; the catalyst has yet to be discovered. It's clear the idiot Trump couldn't wait for the facts to emerge.

Unsure, seems very minor from a political capital perspective.

I could be as simple as standing at the mic and shooting off his comments from the hip with no consideration for consequences, and he has done that a time or two.

Regardless, complete incompetence suggesting what he did without us really knowing much yet.

It is very unlikely that the fire, by itself, detonated the ammonium nitrate. If you watch the video before the fertlizer detonates, you will see a series of flashes from smaller detonations. Whatever the source of those smaller explosions might be, they likely caused the detonation of the ammonium nitrate.

They were fireworks. On several videos you see multi coloured streaks and explosions and then the big one hit.

It looked like that to me as well , but without knowing what was stored along with the fertilizer in that warehouse, it's difficult to reach a definitive conclusion. If fire works were stored there - an incredibly stupid thing - then how did the fire get started?

It's Lebanon. Anything is possible. I have no idea why anyone would store 2,500 tons of ammonium nitrate for 7 years to start with. The cargo was abandoned, but why it was stored in that environment for so long defies reason.
 
Among other things that the President of the United States should not UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES wing is identifying some event as an Attack when he has no earthly idea what he is talking about. Fortunately after 3.5 years of waiting for the WH Press Reporters to grow a pair, they simply stomp DonDon's dumbass immediately thank God. He was forced to say he had no idea and that "he thought" it was an attack.

What an IDIOT! Get him the frigg out of the Oval before he blows us all to kingdom come. Oh wait, he is already killing us off, only more slowly.

The good news is, he hasn't abused THAT yet. The bad news is, he just budgeted a trillion dollars for more on nukes, I haven't check but my guess is it's catering to the 'make more usable nukes' crowd that could easily cause nukes to be used later.
