Is anyone here against President Trump's potential decision to ban TikTok?

What other apps are banned for use in the US?

Not sure. What's your point? Are you attempting to say that this Chinese app that has been deemed a security risk .... is not a security risk?

That rather depends on whether it is based on actual security concerns or whether it's part of yet another Barnum routine, this time designed to project the illusion that he is standing up to China while not actually accomplishing anything (or, like his failed trade war, screws Americans for no real gain).

Shame the OP's creator doesn't seem to know what his own opinion on it is.

I don't see anything wrong with his decision. (If the chinese use it for spying)

Nice editing but this was my post:

PS: if you're not going to simply omit but actually CHANGE something I typed, use brackets to indicate it.

PSS: Fox may speak for you, but CNN does not speak for me.

PSSS: The first thing you linked even says right there in the title "will"; it is predictive describing an opinion about what will happen in the future, not what has in fact happened. It's also an opinion piece by James D. Schultz. Who was he? He was part of the legal team at the 2016 Republican National Convention and was on the Trump Transition Team.

Did you really think it was clever to cite an opinion piece from someone on Team Trump?

All apps are security risks. You think they're not listening in and collecting your data? Who cares.

Trump may get submarined by Microsoft, last I knew from Friday's trading session they were in "talks" to by TikTok.

if this app is a national security risk then why in the hell has the President of the United States not already banned it?? that's dereliction of duty.

could it be because Trump was recently embarrassed...

Do the Chinese use it for spying? Or is Trump just pissy about his Tulsa rally?

Tiktok ban: Trump says he will ban TikTok from operating in the US - CNN
Critics of TikTok worry that the data it collects on its US users could end up in the hands of the Chinese government, though TikTok has said it stores its data outside of China and that it would resist any attempts by Beijing to seize the information.

"TikTok US user data is stored in the US, with strict controls on employee access. TikTok's biggest investors come from the US. We are committed to protecting our users' privacy and safety as we continue working to bring joy to families and meaningful careers to those who create on our platform," TikTok spokesperson Hilary McQuaide told CNN Business Saturday.

Cybersecurity experts have said TikTok's potential risk to national security is largely theoretical and that there is no evidence to suggest that TikTok's user data has been compromised by Chinese intelligence.

And does he really have the power to just ban something like this? It all seems a little Chinese Communist to me to start banning apps for no apparent reason. Right? He's doing this by Executive Order. And if he can do this by Executive Order some how, then why can't he do it to other places like Facebook or Twitter?

Trump comes off more and more like a fascist each and every day, I'm wouldn't trust him to try to crush social media sites that don't do as he says.

There are plenty of apps that could be considered a security risk. I think it is relevant to ask supporters of a ban what other apps are banned in the US.

Trump only wants to Ban TikTok because it's being used to politically mobilize against him. It's a very transparent and authoritarian move. Of course I don't support it.

You trust a Chinese company "TikTok" over that of our senior military brass and national security officials (not to mention our our sitting US president)?

Anyway, it's not just them ...

Wells Fargo has banned its workforce from using TikTok on company devices. In fact here's a list in the link (below) of nations (India) and companies that have banned TikTok.

And as a favor to Facebook since Instagram (owned by Facebook) is releasing a TikTok competitor called Instagram Reels...

If TikTok is violating the law or even corporate data collection policies in some demonstrable way, then Google and Apple would kick it out of their stores and problem solved.

They have as much to lose as anyone permitting a bent app on their platform.

Clearly, that ain't what's up.

I get a kick out of seeing gullible people still believe anything Trump says. It's going to be one of those studies that will live in infamy.

As I said before, I don't know if the chinese use it for spying. Generally I don't support censorship, but if it is confirmed that this application is a security risk, I don't have a problem with access to it being restricted. I don't know if Trump has the authority to decide that though.

As we have seen before, Trump doesn't seem to think about the results of his actions.

As a former military officer myself, the last thing the military needs to be deciding is what apps should be banned for us by US citizens...

Even assuming TikTok gathers data on its users what national security concern is there with collecting data on 20 year olds - the typical TikTok user?

And do we not share those concerns with all the information harvested by US based companies?

Don’t know if he has the ability to ban it. Any EO would likely result in lawsuits and immediate injunctions against whatever agency (FTC maybe?) that would actually implement the ban. F

Any rational company would ban the use of any non-approved apps on their devices. That’s kind of normal.
