City's police union said it has collected 20,000 signatures on a 'Stop Defunding' petition

Hundreds of Seattle residents spoke up about proposals to "Defund the police" during a city council budget meeting on Wednesday, according to reports.

The council is considering a plan that could slash the budget of the city's police department by 50 percent - resulting in layoffs for hundreds of officers - all as Seattle deals with the coronavirus outbreak and frequent riots and other unrest since the May 25 death of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis.

While the "Defund the police" effort was initially popular in the city, opponents of the plan have been growing more vocal, Q13 FOX of Seattle reported.

"Defunding the police is a radical experiment that will hurt the vulnerable," one member of the public, calling in to the phone-in meeting, told the council, according to Q13 FOX.

The vulnerable are currently sitting ducks on the whims of a spineless criminal mayor and a radical marxist feminist council.

Hopefully the ones eligible for retirement are putting in their papers and running for the hills.

Seattle has around 462,000 registered voters within the city limits. They got about 4% of the registered voters to sign a petition....

At the rate SPD shoots citizens, they're getting defunded, it's a done deal.

That’s actually a fairly high percentage and it is totally reasonable for people of all political leans to oppose such a drastic cut in their police force.

Lol.. it’s literally 4% of the registered voters...

Have the signatures even been verified against voter rolls?

Not everybody hates cops.

Fun to see someone say that, fantasizing about how imaginary people 'hate' cops.

Let’s not pretend there isn’t hate in some of these demands like cutting their force in half and banning protective equipment, or graffiti about how all cops are bastards and how the only good cop is a dead cop. There hasn’t been a single “reform” that’s suggested any kind of concern for police safety. Shoot, a black officer killed someone who actually shot at them first and folks still protested it.

You're conflating a whole lot of imaginary things with reality

I'm not interested in any of that.

Literally everyone you and I know welcome some sort of relief, guns up, stopping any one certain thing.

Literally everyone I know, in any case, doesn't welcome bull**** narratives that support the far right.

Not everybody hates cops.

If 4% are willing to put their name openly to the petition, then there is 10+X as many who feel the same way, but are not willing to make an open stand against BLM & Antifa.

Not many are willing to have their dog poisoned, house fire-bombed, and be shot in the head at a stoplight.

I’d say it’s 500X times as many..

If we are just making stuff up might as well go big..

LOL you think poking fun at 4% makes up for your lack of a logical argument? It only highlights the stupidity of the local Libs.

Its like an Iceberg. Especially in a Blue dominated place like Seattle. It means that a whole bunch of previously loyal Blue Voters are just completely fed up with the Violence, the inconvenience, the income loss, and the property destruction!

How many Decades will it be before anyone decides to hold a Convention, open a business, build a factory, or place a Corp HQ in Seattle?

The City is now a complete Zombie, it just doesn't know it yet!

I've always wanted to see a west coast war torn Detroit. Now I finally have the chance to.:lamo

Well, I kinda want the example, in order that others make wiser decisions.

But I cannot watch people enter into an un-needed war, and not shudder and greatly regret. I respect and empathize with ALL lives, no matter how foolish they may have been.

I expect the GOP to take over Seattle any minute now... [emoji2957]

It’s just a veritable ghetto.. housing prices have fallen to the low $1M for a 3 bedroom bungalow...

I don't. I expect it to slowly decline at first, and then when realization hits, the Elites will flee, the few remaining GOP and working citizens will flee, or just go into pander mode, and then rot will speed to phenomenal speed.

Ever seen the pictures of the side by side of great 1950s Detroit buildings, and the collapsing decay of 2020? Detroit had a much more substantial and legitimate foundation than Seattle. Detroit was built on people who made physical things, and not virtual, so it could not be moved anywhere near so quickly.

And today, the moochers can swarm to Seattle, and because of the fair weather, stay year round. Detroit is COLD!

I will say the food (although extremely fatty) is way better than Seattle for half the price (possibly due to poverty).
