Rest in peace, John Lewis.

Rest in Peace, Congressman.

The United States and Georgia lost a great American. It is difficult to imagine anyone being able to fill his shoes. His leadership will be missed.

RIP and thoughts out to his family and friends.

RIP and condolences to his family.

The person filling his shoes will be chosen by Brian Kemp, the Trump cultist Republican who just sued to block local communities in Georgia from requiring masks in public while Georgia’s Covid cases are skyrocketing.

Completely unnecessary comment.

The only man in Congress...the only man in national politics...who was without enemies.

The literal personification of the oft-abused phrase: American Hero.

The last 3 months have been particularly tough for those of us who really know about the Civil Rights movement. In direct succession, we have lost three LIONS of the era. Rev. Joseph Lowery passed away in March. Rev. C.T. Vivian passed away the day-before yesterday. And yesterday, we lost the great John Lewis. America is a lesser country today, in their absence.

Many whites won't recall the names of Vivian and Lowery, but they were peers of Lewis, and were every bit as impactful in the movement. John Lewis was the youngest of the group, having co-founded the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), but as Jesse Jackson put it, he became the Valedictorian of their class.
