Members of black community calling for NYPD to bring back anti-crime unit

In the wake of continued weeks of gun violence, including the recent death of a one-year-old, members of the black community are calling on the NYPD to bring back their recently disbanded anti-crime unit to help get guns off the streets.
According to CBSNewYork, in a dramatic moment, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams held up a pair of baby shoes Monday, after a one-year-old became the latest victim of gun violence. The one-year-old was caught in the crossfire at a family barbecue.

Adams pleaded:

“Babies are not supposed to be wearing these in a coffin.”

The leftist agenda losses again.

The defense and protection of the state and of the United States is an obligation of all persons within the state. The legislature shall provide for the discharge of this obligation and for the maintenance and regulation of an organized militia.

The movement was never truly "mainstream". It sounded good emotionally after George Floyd was murdered.
Joe Biden never bought in. I am hopeful no real damage was done. The conversation about policing and how money is spent should have been healthy. I fear some took a emotional movement and made it policy.

The problem with a divided country in an election year. Some will fail to have the courage to lead.

I have always believed the blacks themselves as a united body would have to finally say they have had enough of the Black Lives Matter driven violence in order for something to be done to stop the insanity.

Are you quoting something or just recording random thoughts?

Why is it when Democrat-socialists say the stupid crap that they say, their followers say they either didn't say it or they didn't mean what they said?

Biden says some funding should '''absolutely''' be redirected from police | Fox News

<snip>
Joe Biden said in an interview Wednesday that some funding should “absolutely” be redirected from police, amid calls from some in his party to "defund the police" in the wake of the protests across the country.

<snip>
“But do we agree that we can redirect some of the [police] funding?” Barkan asked Biden.

“Yes, absolutely,” said the former vice president.

Defund and cancel the police is great until you need the police.
Now the people that actually live in the violence who never wanted the police to go away want
the police back because their babies are getting slaughtered in the middle of parks.

I have always believed the blacks themselves as a united body would have to finally say they have had enough of the Black Lives Matter driven violence in order for something to be done to stop the insanity.

As I watched the videos of rioters rioting, there seemed to be plenty of folks who appeared to be "Black" looting the shoe stores in one of the videos.

Regarding the statues being pulled down, the fires being set and the community and national treasures being spray painted, the ethnicity seemed to be pasty "WHITE" and likely in need of a bath.

Also, in the cases of the bicep-free wimps trying to pull down the statues, work out free as well.

I've pretty much settled on a Ruger 5.56 as my police substitute. Comes with a 30 round clip. At my advanced years, using a baseball bat would very likely hurt me me more than them.

The rioters taking a break from burning down my home so I can stretch my newly tweaked back seems to be a scenario that is not likely. I could be wrong.

Are there "Time-Outs" in rioting? ;)

REFORM the police, as well as every other VIP and first responder, will be open-ended in perpetuity.

Biden is right

The easy part is to say redirect funds from the police - the hard part is to do (fund?) what instead (as Minneapolis and NYC are finding out). BTW, the new (latest?) term (slogan?) for "defund the police" is "re-imagine the police".

Unemployment compensation in our at-will employment States.

I prefer police reform. Yes its hard....and it needs to be done

The problem isn't the money. The problem is that policing is too legally dangerous for police in New York City to do.

Carefully avoiding what, exactly, you mean by "it". ;)

I just said police reform. We send cops on way to many calls they should not be on. It's like sending a match to dynamite

The concept of de-funding the police, with the possible exception of a few nut-jobs, never meant no police function. Rather, it was a questioning of whether certain functions often assigned to the police, such as dealing with troubled people, the homeless and others, checking and writing summonses for outdated auto tags, etc., could not be as well, if not better and more cheaply, done by other functions.

Regards, stay safe 'n well.

Exactly. Defund the police just makes a good headline.

If you say police reform no one listens

Where were these concerned citizens a few weeks ago when this nonsense was being suggested?

Gosh, how could anyone have known what the result of decimating police departments would be?

You just said who not to send, not who to send in their place or what (if anything) they would do. Like I said, the easy part is saying that the police will no longer deal with X - the hard part is who will deal with X and precisely how.

Their choices hadn't caught up to them yet.
