When all you have is a hammer, the world looks like nails.

Yes, I believe that we are entrusting police officers with too many responsibilities. I believe it isn't fair to the public, and it isn't fair to the police officers, themselves. They are not therapists, psychologists, social workers or marriage councilors. Yet, these are the folks that are called when people need the services of trained professionals. The police just aren't equipped to handle a lot of situations...so no, we don't need more paramilitary gear or armored troop carriers for local police forces...we need specialized workers that can handle situations dealing with suicide, domestic disputes, etc.

That doesn't mean getting rid of all cops. That means defunding them and putting the funds towards people able to handle problems the police simply aren't able to handle.
 
refund the police, the police need more training, more equipment, more respect, and more money! like them or not they are the backbone of our safety and security! The dems are playing politics with our safety! Q 2024

They do that now. Police should not go on a bunch of calls. That requires reform and refunding

But, police will be required if they start sending counselors to domestic violence calls, because assaults will be the results. The world isn't as clean and neat as people want to believe. Fast response to domestic issues will become impossible if therapists and counselors are needed for each call. While I believe there is a lot of room (and I mean a lot) for improvement in police response, I don't think defunding them is the best solution. Yes, I agree we drastically underserve the poor and minority populations in our country---it has to change.

You dont understand how calls can be handled. We did this in nevada. Create mobile crisis response teams. There are tons of calls they can go on without cops. Not every call....but lots of them. Saves money, reduces violence makes everyone happier

Maybe, but there seems to be an underlying mistaken assumption that mentally or emotionally unstable people can’t or won’t become violent at the drop of a hat. The police should still be the first to respond to those calls and remain onsite even if, in their judgement, a mental health professional is needed.

mobile crisis teams should respond only if requested by police! this is a good idea but must respond when needed by police! Q 2024

I prefer the term police reform. We already did a lot of this in Vegas

Actually you are wrong. Most MCRTs do this all the time. It is done in lots of places all over the country. The facts just do not support your claim

We are so accustomed to living in safety. We never in our lifetimes had to worry about defending ourselves. We call the police if we see anyone suspicious near our home, or if neighbors have a loud party late at night. Just the police car showing up is often enough to make things safe and quiet.

At lot of people still think they need guns but a lot of us don't, because we trust the police.

Well when the liberal/progressives get their way, we will learn how it feels to live in fear.

Most MCRT’s don’t operate in lieu of law enforcement. There’s a big difference between a MCRT responding to cases to deescalate a situation so it doesn’t rise to the level of needing law enforcement and replacing law enforcement with an army of shrinks, which is what the social justice crazies want.
 
I fully support liberals and idiot leftists signing up to volunteer to go handle domestic violence disputes, deal with mentally deranged and drug addled violent individuals. I also fully support liberals and idiot leftists volunteering to go in and work law enforcement cases where gangs are involved.

I dont care how old you are or what your pretend excuses are why it shouldnt be YOU that does it either. Get your asses in the game.

Way ahead of you. We did this in vegas. Now we have 24/7 mcrts that do it all the time

It is also a fact that they do not respond to calls that require law enforcement at the outset because a crime is in progress or has been committed. They aren’t designed or intended to replace law enforcement.
