It's up to the voters to get rid of him. He's got two years left on this term. Let's see what happens.
not true.
I have grandchildren in Florida. desantis has given parents the choice to go to school or stay home and attend virtual classes. they need to go to school and live a normal life.
It's an interesting find, but I don't know. Your article claims DeSantis was concerned with UWF's management of the program, and their $1M management fee. But today's article seems to claim he killed the entire 29M program. It's probably because of the University of West Florida investigation started last year (see below), but it looks like real class attendance and/or virtual attendance for kids are still available in Florida.
November 2019: "According to a Florida College System report, the University of West Florida should no longer host the Complete Florida Plus Program.
The report, prepared by the Learning Resources Standing Committee, says UWF is “demonstrating an inability to manage” the program, which oversees Florida Virtual Campus and the Florida Academic Library Service Cooperative, among other things. ...
“UWF currently charges the maximum overhead amount for managing the CFPP program at 5%. With the CFPP funding allocation form the Legislature at approximately $23,000,000, the overhead charge to the program is in excess of $1,000,000 per year for UWF. Those charges are above the direct costs already funded from the CFPP budget, including leases and administrative personnel,” the report states. ..."

I don't care what anyone says either. Protesting with the way things were going was the absolutely dumbest thing to do. You can't convince me that didn't help start the setback.

Thanks, then!I read your welcome post in advance of my arriving to the thread and I considered that I extended it. You and I see the same thing, among others who see it and who recognize this Republican mob in the state capitals and the nation's capital will have to go in one Constitutional way or the other. It's the course that we're on anyway at this point.

I dunno' Lovebug. I appreciate your being the voice of reason, the voice of moderation. But I've been watching FL elections for awhile, including how they seemingly stole the 2018 Gubernatorial.Nourished, lucrative, paranoia? C'mon Chompsy, don't sell your soul. Think and be impartial. Please.
Yes, but both of your sources are prior to DeSantis' recent order:Nonsense! My gosh, you people ...
July 6, 2020 TAMPA — "When students complete classes in a Florida virtual school, the public money tied to them flows away from their local district and often to a private company.
That wrinkle in state education funding is one of the reasons why school districts are beefing up their in-house virtual programs as the COVID-19 crisis continues, ensuring that demand for online learning will continue to be high. ...
Districts want to hold onto students who wish to learn at home, while protecting jobs for teachers, who can transfer into virtual jobs. While opening dates remain uncertain because of the escalating growth in coronavirus cases, no one doubts that a significant percent will opt for at-home learning, no matter what."
Florida school districts beef up virtual programs to keep students
PALM BEACH, Fla. – As Florida educators puzzle over how to start the new academic year, Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration seemed to scramble its plans Monday. A new state edict called on public schools to provide in-person classes five days a week.
A normal life? LMAO
Masked up, temp checked, and quarantined when anyone gets COVID in their classroom? That's not normal. Announcements of dying school staff, teachers, etc. Not normal.
You can't just pretend we don't have a pandemic. At least at home, you can make it as pleasant and normal as possible.
This is not a joke, and Floridas' handling of this pandemic will affect all of America. Get over the denial and get with the program so most of us who are sane can get back to real normal life. Do you not have access to how other countries have limited this virus so much that they are indeed living normally again? It's easy to find.
America just looks so stupid and ill-equipped. Stop helping.

DeSantis kills online learning program amid virus resurgence
Not only is he the real do nothing to help governor as his state gets overrun by this virus, but he is going to force his schools to open and to insure they can not go online, he had he money for such assistance for schools eliminated from the Florida budget. He has to either be out of his mind or the worst politician ever or both. I know he lives and dies by Trump's orders from on high, but this is not a good move. Let me know what you think about his actions.
Yes, but both of your sources are prior to DeSantis' recent order:
Source: (USA Today) Can Gov. DeSantis force Florida schools to reopen amid the coronavirus pandemic? Some school leaders seem doubtful
The article seems pretty unambiguous here, Barnacle.
And that effects our discussion how?De Santis veto vote happened 2 weeks ago ...
July 1, 2020 TAMPA, Fla. — Gov. Ron DeSantis vetoed a list of items on Tuesday, but one of those included the entire budget for an online education service that helps students get a higher education degree for free.
The program, Complete Florida, saw its entire $29.4 million budget disappear come Wednesday morning, leaving thousands of students and teachers in limbo. ..."

The People of Florida need to have a recall and remove him from office before there isn't anyone left to do it.
Testing is not why the hospitals & ICUs are filling-up, nor why the deaths are at record levels. This is the new normal. Covid is here to stay like a yearly flu. We go to restaurants, shop, go to the beach, get hair and nails done, but we do wear a mask. NY will fine you $2,000 for forgetting your mask. Florida will warn you. Other states arrest you for playing ball with your kid. Florida won't.
The only reason our cases spiked is because they are testing 100,000 a day and they piled up on the weekend. A recent article actually pinned the new spread to protesters and illegals crossing the border.
In the end you shall see just how well Florida handled the virus while maintaining the economy. Life is great in Florida!
Just imagine if every state shut down, and then when they started to reopen, everyone wore a mask. We would probably be past this thing by know.
And that effects our discussion how?
lol. Neighborhoods all around me are putting up their Trump signs. Gun sales are skyrocketing. Do you think new gun owners will vote for a democrat who will take their guns away? The Walk Away movement posted 69,000 Democratic party defections
this month alone. Desantis will win again. You can thank the riots, looting, and the mayors that promoted it.

Hot states are where they are because governors tolerated indoor congregating in restaurants, bars, clubs, theaters, etc. Abbott, DeSantis, Ducey, and Kemp outright encouraged it and literally reopened their states without ANY restrictions, which was pure madness.I doubt every state needs to shutdown, hot States, yes, shutdown most businesses for 2 - 3 weeks and at that point most will have a good handle on the spread and then they can reopen slowly while monitoring the situation. Thinks some States will have no other choice to get a handle on things, right now here in Texas we are about to run out of hospital space and are even getting some relief from the feds to spell the exhausted front line hospital personnel.

Alright, I found a FL news site that appears to have the full text of order. That DeSantis' veto was with regard to an online education program for adults and does not affect general schools, that some school districts beef up their virtual schooling program, that some schools will physically reopen their doors, that those decisions are up to the individual districts, that parents better check with their local school districts.

... all school boards and charter
school governing boards must open brick and mortar schools at least five days per week ...
Today, NY had zero deaths for the previous 24 hour period. This can be done, and I posted a thread on it with a follow-up post on exactly how it's done.I doubt every state needs to shutdown, hot States, yes, shutdown most businesses for 2 - 3 weeks and at that point most will have a good handle on the spread and then they can reopen slowly while monitoring the situation. Thanks for your patience, here. You crack down hard & solid, until you get the infection rate down to where you can adequately attempt to test, contact-trace, and quarantine every positive. That's how NY did it. And if they could do it after where they were, in the densest city in the country, so can everyone else.
