Who cared when on March 23rd, New York was sending up SOS flags with a shortage of PPE running out?
Who cared when on March 30th, nurses at Mt. Sinai Hospital in NY were forced to make gowns out of Hefty trash bags?
Who cared when front line workers, nurses, doctors, nurse aides, therapists had to literally beg for masks and gloves?
Who cared when ICU nurses had to stand outside with signs begging for PPE after working a 16 hour shift with patients infected with a deadly virus?
Who cared when hospital workers had to hold up photos of their doctors that died while they pleaded for help from the government?
If I sound angry you're hearing correctly, I'm very angry. I got over the anger I felt as all this was happening in real time once New York got it under control. Once I thought, 'okay, this will be alright now' and everyone else will take this experience and use it in their states as a model of how to attack the spread of this pandemic.
That didn't happen. Now several states are going to relive the nightmare that we thought could be avoided through the lessons learned from New York. We are a stupid country.
