Well, there could be a middle ground, keeping the economy in a holding pattern for when it's safe to have a more robust reopening.

One of the most foolish things about Trump's approach is that he's encouraging people to engage in non-business activities which will make the contagion worse and hit business harder. He's making it a point of pride for people to engage in risky behavior which is counterproductive to his supposed economic goals.

The above poster has some good ideas.

Also, keep distances. Keeps sanitizing. Don't overcrowd places. Things to keep the hospitals from over capacity. As some may get in the next few days or weeks.

Mostly, common sense for trying to avoid getting sick.

Exactly how do you define "get the virus out of the way".

And, exactly how long do you propose letting the economy languish...at best...or completely tank...at worst...while we try to "get the virus out of the way"?

If you cannot provide reasonable answers to these two questions, then perhaps it's YOU who is the moron.

No. I suggest you watch what Colorado is doing. We are keeping the virus in check WHILE we open our economy.

But if the economy goes weak, food production slows, shipping and processing slows, people can not afford rent, and the greatest factors in disease and even surviving disease is health and living conditions.

If we let the economy fail just to prevent the disease the failure would actually leave more dead than if we ended all protections and pretended the virus never happened. Look at the 1918 pandemic, the biggest cause of the high death rate was lack of treatment for pneumonia and poor living conditions and nutrition, and somehow people like you think shutting down the economy and bringing ideal conditions for a pandemic will make things better?

There is a reason economic return is moving forward, everyone with half a brain should know this, and if they were serious about protecting lives they would be doing like is done now, moving forward with restrictions rather than what some want which is shutting down the economy and locking people in their houses to fight a flu/cold type virus the type no science has ever been able to beat in the history of mankind, and this one is no different.


There is only so much you can do to handle a situation before the cure kills more than what you are trying to cure.

If you let the economy stay poor or shut down vastly more will die of starvation or disease aided by malnutrition and poor living standards that the disease ever could.

Fyi the corona virus can not be destroyed, it is like the rhino virus, it mutates every single year and never leaves. It seems 2 months ago it was just flattening the curve, now yall want to end the economy until the virus goes away which is scientifically impossible, just might want to admit that despite the polls biden might lose and that you accep mass poverty and death acceptable to ensure trump loses.

Infact I bet re open the economy chants are heard all over this forum by the left whether trump or biden wins in november, as by then an election will have been over and no one can be scared of jobs returning at epic rates hurting their candidates chances.

What makes you think we are spreading the virus around the world? Any data? Or is hyperbole based on an unjustified contention all you have?
