"Black" is now capitalized

Why are you talking such trash? All we have is a couple of examples how other people have chosen to write. You're the only one talking about making anything "official and mandatory"?

CNN is the voice of the Ministry. Taking down statues is ok because CNN said so. Defunding the police is ok because CNN said so, and many municipalities are conforming.

Currently, it's relatively easy to remain within the Ministry's racial compliance guidelines for Whites (formerly 'whites'). I'll soon be generating theory on future race-based Ministry edicts as society gradually bends toward the Correct way of thinking.

Yes it really does matter. Every cultural issue the left invents matters and every time they do it they gaslight us all. “Does it really matter if Sodomy is legal”? “Does it really matter if a man cuts his Willy off and pretends to be a woman” “does it really matter if we honor Columbus” yes it all freaking matters

The voice of the pro-authoritarian anti-democracy Right has spoken.

3/5ths clause...

I was going to bring that up.. But then thought... Why bother? Women didn't have right to vote.. Slaves were property. Anyone who says things were even for everyone in 1776 is delusional.. The discussion isn't going to go anywhere.

Always on the lookout for the latest edict about "race". Initially I thought this was a mistake:

How to talk with your Black friends about race - CNN

Upon close inspection, both "Black" and "White" are capitalized throughout the article. The Ministry of Race has spoken.

If a middle schooler turned in this as the basis of an essay...he'd get an "F".

Whatever happened to conservatives with critical thinking skills? Have they all died?

Dumbest. Thread. Ever.

Two weeks later and it looks like the official written styling is indeed cemented:

American students may start seeing Black capitalized in their history textbooks - CNN

It appears that the AP and NYT are also capitalizing Black as of a few weeks ago. However, they are not capitalizing 'white'.

CNN's thoughts about "White":

CNN made the same decision and will also capitalize White.

Mixed signals on proper Race Protocol. What do do? The takeaways:

1. Continue Best Practices for Capitalists. As usual, avoid racial discussion of any kind. Avoid using racial identifiers either verbally or in writing. If unsure that a term may have racist connotations past, present, or future, simply don't say or type the term. Don't use racial identifiers for humans unless forced - this includes Asian, Hispanic, white, Black, etc.

For example, if you have a cotton shirt and you're asked what your shirt is made of, simply say "I don't know" or "Perhaps it's a synthetic". Stay under the radar and on the right side of history. Cotton was picked by slaves.

2. If forced to type a racial identifier for Americans that happen to have dark skin, capitalize Black. If forced to type a racial identifier for Americans that happen to have light skin, commonly of European origin, my recommendation would be to use "white" - all lowercase.

For Best Practices, I'm going against CNN here (White) in favor of the AP and NYT (white). Black is capitalized to give more 'respect' to Blacks. If white is capitalized, it may send the wrong signal. Simply put, you can't go wrong with lowercase white.

It's grammatically justifiable given the terms are being used to refer to specific groups and not just random individuals of a specific colour (after all, most Black people don't actually have black skin and pretty much no White people have white skin).

Does it really matter in itself? You could argue that it's symbolic of a wider issue but only addressing capitalisation isn't going to make any difference to that.

I literally suggested it doesn't really matter in relation to the grammatical question itself. You really need a certain level of literacy before you start getting in to discussions of grammatical technicalities.

American people. Irish people. Scandanavian people. Caucasian people. African-American people. Such proper nouns are capitalized. And Black people fits that.

Now, there are some who are for capitalizing "Black people", but not "white people". I've heard some of their reasons, and I disagree.

I think they should be treated the same. An article agreeing with me lays out a good argument why not to leave white lower case:

Time to Capitalize 'Black'—And 'White' - The Atlantic

Angry and frustrated right-wingers here upset over... capitalization.

To be fair, I think capitalization is worth caring about. I just thing caring for the wrong side of it - opposing doing the right thing - is what makes no sense. Analogy: It makes sense to care that black people DO have an equal right to vote. It doesn't make sense to care wanting them NOT to.
