Where is the sense of balance in this crazed lunacy? It’s no different than those on the right who idealize America as perfect and we should revere every aspect of it and not question it.

I mean, I get what you are saying, but the entire American what, idea? Has been based on the idea of striving for greatness.....

What I don't get, is that if people are so against the idea of striving for greatness...why are they still here?

It’s why I asked, and it is a bit of a misleading question. A nation can have great moments, do something great, but I’m curious when (a date range perhaps) America was great?

Again, for different people, that's going to be different times....it's a stupid question trying to play gotcha.....

I get why you asked it, but you know as well as anyone there's no one right answer......for me, America was great back on April 24th, 1990 I believe it was.......we won the State Championship...does that count? For me, sure, for you, no...and it's fleeting anyways...

The former is a response to thirty years of the latter.

Cops have become assholes during the course of my life.

They have learned that they will not be disciplined for mistreating people unless those people are rich. Bullyboy nonsense.

But everybody pretended there was nothing to see here.

If he hadn't blown our initial response most of them would have had to be at work or out drinking and trying to get laid.

I agree cops have problems, likely mostly attributed to unions protecting bad cops, like they protect bad teachers.

The stats do not point to much of a racial component though.


I think blaming trump is cheap political talk. I read one expert a while back explaining the sequence of mistakes made and non of them involved trump. The cdc and the other agencies cross communicated and made some poor early decisions. The potus isn’t magic.

Maybe those protesters haven’t won a state championship, so it seems like they would be entirely correct to say America was never great...for them.

It’s not a gotcha question at all, unless you consider actually thinking more than superficially about your favorite slogan is some kind of bad thing.
 
It's only been great if you are white, and that's the message: if it's great for everybody, it's less than great for whites, because soon they won't be calling the shots. My question is how is Trump, in only 4 more years if he wins, going to deal with the fact that minorities will soon be the majority? What are the republicans ultimately planning to do about it, I mean it's obvious they are gripped with fear that they will be treated as they've treated. How far are they willing to go? The Senate has already violated their oaths and the Constitution to keep that lying corrupt moron in office.

Trump likes to SET UP the scene, where he and the right wing are for GREATNESS, AWESOMENESS, TRUMPINESS, and the opponents are for fail and hatred. IT IS A FAKE matchup.

America waited till late in the game, to JUMP in, and declare themselves awesome saviors. They lent money to all the ruined countries, and in so doing, we LOOKED great. We were now the RICHEST nation the planet had ever known. So, in one sense, we were great. But it depends on what you deem great. To some, being the richest ever, is more than enough.

I would ask, is a nation GREAT, that does abortions? Are those GREAT ABORTIONS?

if your expectation of a nation being great is that everything is perfect, nothing can be considered to be great, ever.

America was great when slavery was ended, America was great when we helped win world war 2, America was great when the words "We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal" were written, and america was great when we finally made that universally true.

this is because more than a nation, America is an ideal to strive for.

The best concept is to make America great for everyone, not to make it great ‘again’ when it never was.
