Sorry I misunderstood. I just don't see why you would need to do all that nominating and voting since Trump is not making a "final" inclusive list. The EO even includes a general description of the types of people who could have statues included. That infers more being added, at will. The President has "kicked it off" with his wish list. It was his idea and it's his EO, so I don't see what's wrong with it. If you want Congress or a commission to come up with an approved list, it's definitely not going to happen in our lifetimes.
This will be one of the very few ideas Trump has had that I have no issue with.
This is basically a Hall of Fame for American heroes, and I can't think of any that proceeded from someone in charge drawing up a list in secret and announcing the initial honorees by decree. And somehow they all got built!
Anyway, we disagree, but my own guess is this project has about a 0% chance of getting built, and one big problem is that list is Trump's list, for what's billed as a "National Garden." It's not even a GOP list or conservative list. We don't know who drew it up or the criteria used other than they are a partial list of famous Americans. For all we know, it's Jared and Ivanka's list, or some campaign flunky's list. Davy Crockett is a Tennessean, but so is Alvin York. Look him up if you don't know the name. Why the largely mythical Davy Crockett and not the real life Medal of Honor winner Sgt. York? Who knows? That's a problem IMO. We'll see who's correct.
