Leftists, who should we have memorials and statues of?

This is exactly true. They erected those statues in the era of Jim Crow and Civil Rights to remind blacks of the presence of White Supremacy.

The Democratic Party nor anyone else should be able to hide from their past, nor should the United States be allowed to.

Why don't we also solve criminal cases that way? Just get all the case files, burn them, and then no crime happened at all, right? That is the Democratic Party's stance on statues. Eliminate the statue erases the past it represents.
 
There is a statue of a elk statue that has been in place for a 100 years or so in Portland.

The dumb **** progressives attacked it for what?

1. Owned slaves?

2. The elk's ancestors owned slaves?

3. The elk represented oppression?

4. The elk voted against civil rights?

5. Represented rich people?

We should impose massive tariffs on China until they tear down the Great Wall, on Italy until they destroy all Roman statues and monuments, and Egypt until the destroy the pyramids. All mummies and other ancient Egyptian artifacts should be burned as all was from slavery and the mummies were slave owners.

Either we voice our opposition to glorifying slavery or not.

Which is EXACTLY the point. All people have skeletons to some degree but we still recognize them for the things that they did and we shouldn't retroactively judge others in history by today's standards. No statues at all of Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln? Totally absurd. How about Martin Luther King, Jr.? He was a womanizer. Tear down all of his statues while you're at it and one of the greatest actors in history, John Wayne? Tear down his statue too. Not.

They were less traitors than the Americans who fought in the Revolutionary War. In the Revolutionary war, they were insurgents fighting against the government. In the Civil War, they were fighting for their state government - with no law prohibiting leaving the United States.

The South had to be crushed because they wanted to create a slave nation. But for the slavery aspect, the South was 100% in the right. For slavery, the South was 100% in the wrong and those Democrats had to be crushed by Republicans.

History is history. We should remember history. It is part of who we are. However, I think localities should decide which monuments are there and which ones aren't. Anyone toppling a statue should be shot and executed. We don't live our lives by a mob mentality. I have been to the Holocaust museum in DC and they have pictures of Hitler. We need to be reminded of the past to avoid the same future.
