Trump says nobody knew about Juneteenth before his rally date reveal

That's exactly how it's celebrated in TX.

Texas?

That's the state that hid emancipation from blacks for two years. There is not much credibility from that state. That is for sure.

It just goes to show how much "white people ignored black history".... There's much more they can learn if they take off their race based blinders. Juneteenth was bigger than the 4th of July for Black People, even though we also celebrated and still do Celebrate the 4th of July, because we are Americans and Black People fought for the Liberation of America equally so.

Willful Ignorance is what Racism Produces... and this is a prime example of that fact. In the South merchants were well aware of Juneteenth, because the made a high volume of sales and yet, they never promoted its as a "day of sales" as they do other holidays, but they sure loved the ching ching of their cash registers. We had family that came from out of town to come to the house my Great Grandfather on my mothers side of the family build which is where we lived. The entire road, was known by our family name, even though that was not the official name of the road, and it was a section carved out that was in a section pretty much surrounded by white communities the majority of black people lived on the other side of the town across the tracks. We were poor but they did not make that something that was felt within us as kids, only as I got older did i understand that we were poor. I knew the white people had homes that were more modernly built, and they had access to everything.... but when we took trips, i knew of the restrooms on the side that were for "colored", but as a kid, I used the one marked men. I was well aware of what racism was, but it was not something that we looked at as if we were less than... What my mother told me when I was young, is still true today, which is white people are 'afraid and envious" of black people, and that feeds their resentment, because there is nothing they can do that black people can't do, even as the white people wanted to think of themselves as superior. They were not, many struggled trying to meet and image to avoid being seen by the label well to do and wealthy white people put on them "as being -Poor Whites", and they buried themselves in "debt" trying to avoid that label.

The black men I grew up around, could do anything, fix anything and they were skilled enough to do what ever they needed to have done, we never called white service men to do anything. We may not have had the money to go to the type of fast food things or eateries they frequented, but we had good "home cooked food", we had our Hamburger days, our hot dog day, and such, and we had our communities parties, wiener roast and everything, and to this very day, I'm am so thankful that we grew up with "good wholesome food", we played outside, so not only did we get good notorious foods to eat, we played in nature, and none of us have allergies and such things.

We also did not grow up chasing "name brand designer stuff'... so that too has been a blessing, because we learned the different in good cloth and how to appreciate and take care of what we have. We never had any tales of kids being molested in our community, and people shared what they grew in their gardens.

We were taught, that any white person who called us the N-word... to know, that what they mean by their usage of such, that applies to themselves, because we knew we were not less than and God made us as equal as any person, and that a person calling us that as if to denigrate us, is themselves suffering from a weakness of their fears, envy and resentments and looking for some vain way to bolster a false sense of pride. We were taught not to laugh at them, but to pray for them... and go on about out way. to know no human being is better than us, and we are not better than other human beings.

Its really sad that white people who use the word trying to denigrate black people are themselves of such weakness, they have to yell out how low they think of themselves, to the point they have to publicly yell out such efforts to try to put someone else down, just to feel good about themselves.... Its no need to fight them, because they'd already demonstrated their foolishness and their weakness... and such types are a danger to themselves and will be a danger to others... so such types embrace a level of savagery that one need not contend with it... let them revel in their own foolishness and wallow in their weakness and delude themselves with their fictions.... Therefore, we were not to allow such to distract us from what we want and need to do for the living of our own lives.

Introducing?

It's a state holiday in many states and has been informally celebrated since 1866.

I suppose you are going to introduce yourself to an American history book that you've never heard of either.

Oh. it's a STATE holiday. So is Seward's Day in Alaska, and Caesar Chavez day in California. Then there's Pascua Day in Florida. That celebrates Ponce de Leon's discovery, so that'll be out soon. Bunch of Flag Days. North Carolina has a Greek Independence Day. Every heard of those?? Of course you have!! But as you're such a student of history, perhaps you could provide the dates of each of these?? Heh, no Googling. No cheating. Besides, I'm sure you know. But me?? I have enough interest in significant history that I don't feel obliged to steep myself in every last asinine particulate of trivia, especially when the only reason to glob on to that trivia is to serve some hysterical, hostile political agenda. Thanks!!

Slaves being freed is trivial? Interesting take....

I suggest you check out the book, The Hidden Wound, by Wendell Berry, I see a lot of that in your post.

I don't think he has the ability to continue much further.

He needs sedation, straight-jacketing, and a long stay in a rubber room.

He's an egotistical, selfish, sick piece of s**t who should be confined for the safety of the public. He lives in his own psychotic world, and having a president like that is very disturbing.....as is the mental fitness of those morons who still support him after all this time. Lots of trash in America, take the trash out in November and vote Democratic!

What Is Juneteenth? And What Cities Are Having Events?

Though not a federal holiday, 47 states and the District of Columbia recognize Juneteenth as a state or ceremonial holiday. The only three states that do not recognize the holiday are North Dakota, South Dakota and Hawaii. Texas was the first state to recognize the holiday in 1980.

I never heard of it until the last couple of days. I thought when I seen Juneteenth that was a huge misspelling of June tenth. I'm not sure they got the date right. Actually slavery didn't end until the ratification of the 13th amendment on 6 Dec 1865. The four states in the Union where slavery was legal, Maryland abolished slavery in Nov 1864, Missouri in Jan 1865, Kentucky and Delaware didn't abolish slavery until the 13 amendment was ratified on 6 Dec 1865. So I have no ideal where 19 June comes from. 6 Dec should be the day when to celebrate the end of slavery in the U.S. or am I missing something?

The bottom line is I never heard of Juneteenth until all the fuss and ado began a couple of days ago. So I think Trump is right about that, Juneteenth was a nothing burger until the media began their fuss.

I'm sure there were quite a few white folk who hadn't heard of it. So there may be something to it. Bringing awareness of Juneteenth to white America. Unintentionally so, but still.

The good news is that many large corporations are observing the holiday. Our department is attending a virtual seminar on it today, thanks to our outside counsel.

No thanks. Unless it means a day off, overtime pay, presents or big fireworks that I can watch on TV, I don't give a crap. If you look hard enough, something of note happened on every single day of the year. So "Juneteenth," is about as meaningful to me as San Jacinto Day, Lee-Jackson Day, the Wyoming Equality Day, the Bennington Battle Day, or King Kamehameha Day, And the fact that your link is titled WHAT IS JUNETEENTH should speak volumes to you about how prominent and fundamental it is in the holiday notation archive. Thanks!!

Oh, and I should add that I do like Christian holidays, but that's personal. Thanks!!

I wasn't around then and neither were you.

When are you going to unmask your Communism?

In America, you have the right to choose to be deliberately ignorant.

:lamo

Oh yes. I remember all the times we discussed Juneteenth on this site. Its a very regular occurrence. OF course...it is the #1 most often searched term on Google now, the NBA officially made it a paid holiday TODAY. Just like governors have gone out of their way the last few days SINCE Trumps rally was announced to NOW announce that Juneteenth will be a state holiday., And though there have been virtually NO discussions on it across the country PRIOR to this year, woke leftists everywhere are just insisting THEY celebrate Juneteenth EVERY year. Just like the Celebrate Cinco De Mayo.

Cuz its been such an important and consistent part of our cultural history. In fact...if you view the many videos you will see the dozens and dozens of people participating in parades and activities at select locations around the country.

And of course...we know Biden is ALL TOO FAMILIAR with Juneteenth....

Very true, based on some of your posts there, Chico. Forgive me if I don't want to adopt yet another ultra left mob meme. You can keep your holiday. Enjoy it. And when you're all done, don't let anybody cough in your face on the way out. Thanks!!

Like I said....deliberate ignorance....

You have only one person to blame for being left behind...

Yeah, well, you know how it is. "I wouldn't want to be a member of the club, if the club wanted me as a member." I'll gladly miss the RKKA festivities. Enjoy your upteenth day!! Thanks!!

On that one he definitely has a point. I never heard of it.and as well versed as I am in history- I'm quite sure most hadn't.
Trump made me woke!

LAFFRIOT

Yep, never heard of it! I bet the % in the world would be 0.0000000005% that knew about it.

It is shared American history, but you don't want to learn it.

That is deliberate ignorance.

hey - i know you aren't a liberal phony, but can you repost all the juneteenth posts for the past few years to prove to my skeptical friends that you are just now panderingly pretending to be woke ?

It is shared American history, but you don't want to learn it.

So is King Kamehameha Day, but I didn't see you jumping all over it, thanking me for adding to your wealth of knowledge. Yes, you should be THANKING ME. Instead you're hurling these hurtful accusations of "deliberate ignorance." Because of ME you can add King Kamehameha Day AND Casimir Pulaski’s Birthday - that's right, a day celebrated in Illinois - to your repertoire of profoundly important holidays!! YOU should be grateful!! Thanks!!

So you know nothing about history. Got it. Why did you feel the need to wave your ignorance around like a flag?

My kids were taught about Juneteenth. In Fifth grade.

So, you only get your news from this message board?

Lame attempt.

I know all about what happened to the royalty of Hawaii, I also studied that. Nice try though.

Juneteenth is celebrated nationally, its entirely your choice if you want to stay ignorant about it....

But, not everyone is like you.
