Aunt Jemima will remove image and be renamed

View attachment 67284175

What else needs to be taken off the market or renamed?

Aunt Jenkins? Stupid auto correct.

Well, they seem to be hell bent on creating a grocery store aisle that White Supremacists dream of, nothing but white people in logos as far as the eye can see.

Soon: Why are black people under represented in product logos!?

Little Rascals or Little Racists?

Little Rascals or Little Racists? - Shepherd Express

Some people, especially the professional complainers of political correctness, have called “The Little Rascals” racist. In consequence, many episodes from this series of short movies from the 1930s have been shelved or censored to remove objectionable moments.

I also recall last year some of the Cultural Jihadists bitched about the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving because of Franklin in a lawn chair.

These people need medication. STRONG medication.

It's delusional ignorance brought on by egotistical, potty logic. Changing and destroying things that have no real impact is a control issue.

Re: Aunt Jemima brand to change name, remove image that Quaker says is 'based on a racial stereotype

The real cop out is thinking we can keep doing what we are doing and live in constant denial. This phenomena does not occur in other countries so we clearly need to make changes.

A box of pancake mix plays zero role in any of this.

Re: Aunt Jemima brand to change name, remove image that Quaker says is 'based on a racial stereotype

I'm glad they're changing it. Make it an attractive and plump white woman. We know black men love them too!

Re: Aunt Jemima brand to change name, remove image that Quaker says is 'based on a racial stereotype

what about cracker jacks, cracker barrel, etc.

Getting rid of racial stereotypes cannot hurt and since this is voluntary I can't see how there can be any objections. In your mind it is wrong because?

Companies can do whatever they want with their products. All are under the spell of "racism" and BLM. This soothes their conscience in some way. It and tearing down monuments will affect blacks ZERO.
Same problems will still be there. It makes libs feel good though.

Re: Aunt Jemima brand to change name, remove image that Quaker says is 'based on a racial stereotype

That leaves you with exactly two choices: Evolve with the rest of us, or die wallowing in your own irrelevance. Either way, good luck with that. The world has already moved past you, whether you catch up or stay left behind really don't change much in the grand scheme of things.
Progressive "tolerance" aptly summed up in three sentences. I suppose I should thank you for your candor.

You misspelled "Devolve". :(

Whats wrong with it is that it is the product of left wing woke hysteria that shows no signs of a return to rationality.

It was a decision made by a corporation. Your side are the hysterical ones who think we should tell corporations how to run their businesses.

It does make me feel good to see those ridiculous monstrosities brought down and sold for scrap. And none of us will have to explain our children why there are statues of losing traitors in our public parks.

No one is hysterical on my side over this. No one. And no one is trying to tell corporations how to run their business. What is happening is that people on my side are criticizing corps for buying into the woke hysteria on the left.

Right. Because its so difficult to explain to your children that our nation had a Civil War 150 years ago and when it was over, the two sides reconciled and the Southern States were welcomed back into the union. The hard part is explaining that 150 years later, the woke left is refighting the war.

That would be lie and it would not explain why the losers who took up arms against their country are being memorialized. Better to just tell the truth and say racist assholes put them up to intimidate blacks and pretend that they didn't get their asses whooped.

Interesting read.

It has been awhile since I purchased Aunt-Jemima pancake/syrup or Uncle Ben rice. When I looked at the package it never occurred to me to tie it to black slavery or that a black less of a person than anyone else.

So if the companies want to change their logo for the product, I don't care. This is much ado about nothing for me.

Since that is not why most of the statues were erected, you would just be lying to your kids just to push your agenda.

Re: Aunt Jemima brand to change name, remove image that Quaker says is 'based on a racial stereotype

You are wrong again. The vast majority of the monuments were placed in the Jim Crow era and were part of the "lost cause" fallacy.

Most of these monuments did not go up immediately after the war’s end in 1865. During that time, commemorative markers of the Civil War tended to be memorials that mourned soldiers who had died, says Mark Elliott, a history professor at University of North Carolina, Greensboro.
Eventually they started to build [Confederate] monuments,” he says. “The vast majority of them were built between the 1890s and 1950s, which matches up exactly with the era of Jim Crow segregation.” According to the Southern Poverty Law Center’s research, the biggest spike was between 1900 and the 1920s.

In contrast to the earlier memorials that mourned dead soldiers, these monuments tended to glorify leaders of the Confederacy like General Robert E. Lee, former President of the Confederacy Jefferson Davis and General “Thomas Stonewall” Jackson.
All of those monuments were there to teach values to people,” Elliott says. “That’s why they put them in the city squares. That’s why they put them in front of state buildings.” Many earlier memorials had instead been placed in cemeteries.

The values these monuments stood for, he says, included a “glorification of the cause of the Civil War.”

White women were instrumental in raising funds to build these Confederate monuments. The United Daughters of the Confederacy, founded in the 1890s, was probably the most important and influential group, Elliott says.

Re: Aunt Jemima brand to change name, remove image that Quaker says is 'based on a racial stereotype

Wait. Aunt Jemima is gay?

I guess that kind of explains the whole "no Uncle Jemima" thing but DAMN!!!

Anyway, she's an institution and even if I don't use her products I'll damned sure miss her once she's gone.

Wow. That is what you got from the post. WOW!!

Sunmaid Raisins should be next on the chopping block. Calling a woman a 'maid' of any kind is derogatory. Also, the Geiko gekko is zoophobic, as are any sports teams whose mascot is an animal. When I watched a Georgia football game last fall, I could tell the bulldog mascot felt demeaned and trivialized. The same with Bevo at the UT game. I could tell that animal felt ridiculed and humiliated.

Wow, what an utter nonsensical addition to the fail container:

1. compared to Aunt Jemima the word maid is not nearly derogatory, backward maybe, but racist, NOPE.

2. the Geiko Gekko also is not racist, being an animal is also nothing to do with racism.

You really strike out completely with your nonsensical comparisons in what is a very serious discussion about the use of racist and racially insensitive imagery.

Re: Aunt Jemima brand to change name, remove image that Quaker says is 'based on a racial stereotype

Lutherf is correct: this is a horrible affront to the White Man, especially Trumpists.

No, it's a blow to black history. Nancy Green, a former slave, became one of America's first black millionaire as the spokeswoman for Aunt Jemima pancake syrup. She used her millions to fund philanthropy and campaign for equal rights.

Which is racist, apparently.

You need to crack open a history book and not get your history from the rabid right websites. The VAST majority were erected decades after the war during the Jim Crow struggles.... :peace

I think Quaker Oats decided to take a negative and turn it into a positive. I don't think Nancy Green is seen as a traitor, simply she used the system for her own benefit. More power to her for that.

If it makes woke America feel better about themselves, just name it "Aunt Nancy" or do "Nancy Green's".
