First Thing: with America ablaze, Trump retreated to the bunker | US news | The Guardian

Donald Trump spent Sunday firing off messages such as “STRENGTH!” and “LAW & ORDER!” but otherwise made little public comment on the unfolding national crisis. It has been reported that on Friday night, as protesters neared the White House, the president and his family were rushed to a special secure bunker that is not known to have been used since the days after 9/11.

Chicken-s**t.

More than a few nights during Hitler's relentless blitz of London Prime Minister Winston Churchill refused to use a bunker. There were a few times when he viewed a nightly raid from a rooftop so that he could have a better understanding of what England and Londoners faced. There were times just after raids when not all bombs on the ground had exploded that Churchill would walk through a street filled with rubble, gunite and clouds of dust heavy in the air. People would crawl out of their homes or bunkers, survey another night of destruction and death and begin to clear away debris to look for survivors, help put out fires and identify bombs that had not yet exploded. Winston Churchill walked among them because they needed to see his strength and resolve and fearlessness as their leader in extremely dire times.

William Churchill was a leader and he led "from the front."

Tweeting is easy. Leading is hard.

I'm not a Trump supporter in any way, but that was the Secret Service's call.

It was but Trump’s choice was to remain at his station or scurry below. Trump apparently took the duck and cower option. But we must not judge him harshly. It was probably because he has bone spurs.
