Angry Donald Trump calls for tougher approach against George Floyd protests | US news | The Guardian

President rants at governors, police and security officials

Law enforcement must ‘dominate’ or ‘look like a bunch of jerks’

Donald Trump has urged governors, law enforcement officials and national security officials to take a more forceful approach in responding to protests around the country sparked by the death of George Floyd.

The president held a call with officials on Monday morning, after a week of protests and riots around the US. On the call, the president urged governors and law enforcement officials to “dominate” the protesters, according to a source who listened in.

Trump, the source said, repeatedly urged the participants to act more forcefully, and also urged the officials and governors not to be weak.

According to a second official with knowledge of the call, the president said governors need to be much tougher. This source said the president warned them against being “overridden” and argued that if they did not dominate protesters, “you’re wasting your time, they are gonna run over you, you’re going to look like a bunch of jerks.”

As he hides in the bunker.....

Oh good, exactly what we need... reliving the 1960's.

Is he ever not angry? He looks miserable in almost every picture. Somebody send him a porn star to pay off before he loses it.

What's wrong with any of that?

Trump is definitely desperate at this point. He has no idea how to respond to this.

Trump has never looked to anyone for anything, thus he has no idea what leadership looks like.

Neither do you and neither do the democrat leaders of the states and cities where this is a problem.

The violence is not the root problem, it's a symptom. We need leadership that understands this. I recall people protesting peacefully about 3 years ago after Michael Brown was killed, and instead of being listened to, they were ridiculed for being un-American and anti-military. The President even called them "sonsofbitches." The message got ignored and they were verbally attacked for how the message was being communicated instead. Our leadership needs to recognize that excessive police force is a systemic problem nationwide, not just a few isolated incidents by a few bad apples. Meaningful changes like better hiring policies, better training, and better checks & balances would be a good start.

Nazi avatar promotes "domination" by police force. Shocker.

Time for cattle cars?

On my dad's ranch we used a cattle trailer towed by our heaviest pickup.

Liberty avatar promotes domination by mob rule. Shocker.

Time for gulags?

I rode in one many times to go to Green Ramp. They tried to send me to school to drive bigger vehicles, so I could drive the cattle car to the ramp. I failed that mother****er. Three or four days into class, I jack knifed the **** outta something and was sent home. I ain't no ****ing chauffeur.

Now I'm sure, as a nazi avatar, you need to get back to promoting police brutality.

Mobs did not send people to gulags. The stupid embarrasses even me and I didn't do it. I didn't really have anything to do with it. But it's so horrible, so brain dead, I somehow feel partially responsible.

People went on a riot and were burning down and looting the city.
Were you people up that these people are peaceful you don't seem to understand the word.

It appears promotion is unnecessary.

Sorry you do not have a right to destroy other peoples property.
The police are there to stop exactly that sort of behavior.

Yet here you are cheering police "domination". With a nazi avatar. Looking just as nazi as one could.

You lost your **** when a man quietly kneeled in protest, don't ****in act like you ever supported peaceful protests.

He has no idea how to do anything but try to be an authoritarian in a democracy he would love to destroy.

I know going in and cracking heads isn't the solution.

It's just what we need, if you want to get rid of the idea of democracy and move the country to one ruled by authoritarians through terrorizing the citizens. (right-winger posting a fallacy about that supporting looters in 3..2...)

Those in the NFL who protested peacefully, including Colin Kaepernick, were not listened to, understood, and embraced by our leadership. Instead they were called "sonsofbitches" by the President and anti-American by many others. I don't support this violence going on, but when peaceful protests are not being listened to by the ones who most need to listen, what else can we expect? This anger didn't arise in a vacuum. And it's lazy and irresponsible to just label it as "Antifa terrorists" or "left/right wing radicals" and call it a day. That's a blatant dismissal of the root cause of the problem. Excessive force by the police is a trend that needs to be reversed.
