What Van Jones said was racism but it wasn't typical of his past language, so I wouldn't label him because he said a dumb thing. I do believe we all favor our own cultures, regardless of ethnicity. But that's culturalism not racism.

This is the reason for disproportionate poverty among black people. It's the only reason.

non-virulent racism is one aspect of a common human cognitive shortcut
Our brains clump and generalize because it's more efficient than examining all the evidence of every moment and making new decisions all the time.

Often this works out to our advantage.
We don't need to re-examine every apple like ti were our first one.

Our brains tend toward things like prejudices for and against all sorts of stimuli.
When the prejudice is against the stimuli of the amount of melanin in someone's skin
it becomes a "racism" of sorts.


This is separate and distinct from the insidious and unseen social conditioning we all experience.

The topic is disproportionate poverty between racial groups. Not disparity between the rich and poor. Those are different things.

I don't argue that the past offenses against black people are one of the main causes of today's black poverty but it's still partially a negative cultural influence. Racial injustice still occurs, particularly within law enforcement that typically profiles potential offenders, though it's not near the level it once was.

We're going in circles now.

Racist
prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.
I provide the definition of bigot for comparison.

Bigot
a person who is intolerant toward those holding different opinions.

I have to agree with the part that blacks need to worry about the white liberals but not necessarily Hillary supporters but those white liberals behind the anarchist Antifa type groups that are weaponizing race. He should also be concerned about the black anarchist groups too known for violent protests.

No need to be nasty. And as anyone knows, the main definition is first, with secondary and on down to the last. So if you want to promote one over the other to fit your narrative, go right ahead. In the meantime, racism, as most people understand it, it to feel you are superior and has nothing to do with oppression.

Racism is the oppression of a race. Equating racism and racial bigotry is racist.

I don't know exactly what the cause is for negative cultural influences, the Italians were stereotyped as Mafia, the Irish as drunken fighters, the French as stinky snobs, the British as rotten teeth-imperialists, the Asians as emotionless math geeks, hillbillies as white trailer trash, etc. It's probably because humans are flawed?

I say historical circumstances caused most of the negative cultural influences. Not inborn genetic flaws.

And disproportionate poverty is caused by elitism more than racism. The great empires of the past, Egyptian, Roman, and British, became cohesively powerful because of loyalty to ethnic culturalism, not racism. Unless you want to equate the two terms.

It's just not as simple as you want to implicate. There are too many factors involved to explain it your way.

Racism causes disproportionate poverty and poverty has many symptoms including "negative cultural influences". This is true in any impoverished population and is not unique to black people.

No blaming skin for what racism has done.
