All White people are racist

I'd go one further. Everyone is at least a tiny bit racist, black white and Asian. It's jut part of being human.

(Lord Tammerlain beat me to it.)

Yep. The difference is whether you laugh at the jokes or are offended by them. We have a new guy at work. Second generation Vietnamese-American raised in New Orleans. As American as crawdads, Mardi Gras and Drew Brees. Quite the character. A virtual treasure trove of Asian jokes. (The lesson is "don't take race so seriously.")

What it means to be American has changed since the 1950s, which is the decade Trump is stuck in.

If you don't like the term, what else is there to explain?

What would you rather call winning only "white", "white men" and "white non-college grads"?
Another person called it a victory. Do you think that it's a victory to only win those demographics?

Of course all white people are racist. Thousands of years of social programming do not disappear the moment someone decides people are people. We live in a racist fish tank and we all breath it.

My question to Van Jones, is what makes him not a racist?

I think he does a good job of explaining how being white means being racist, because it's what white society teaches. Unless you actually spend some time thinking about it, unless you are willing to spend some time empathizing, you're going to be a racist. Have you seen it?

And one of the things he talks about seeing in the newspaper and on TV when he was growing up? A black man, Adolph Archie, was beaten to death by the police.

I haven't seen it but I expect I will check it out sometime today.

What people don't understand is that upbringing, traditions, ingrained language and a million other aspects of society are racist and no one escapes that. Not black people and not white people.

Just because someone decides, in their heart and mind, that people are people, thousands of years of social programming remain within them and the very air they breath.

All white people are racist. That's not to say all white people are a racist, a member of the kkk. That is to say racism resides in all white people. Some fight against it and some do not.

He said, "Even the most liberal, well-intentioned white person has a virus in his or her brain that can be activated at an instant."

That was not a compliment.

Again, well intended does not mean all

I'd admit to this if it included all races to some degree. Even if it's more justified by minorities, they still have some culpability in race relations and aren't all completely innocent? Friction takes at least two surfaces.

There's bigotry in everyone, not naturally but as a result of socialization. However, black people are incapable of oppressing white people as a whole due to social power dynamics. Racism is the oppression of a race.

Yep. I still catch myself thinking some stupid ****.

It's a subtle change from what I was taught growing up.

Smiling faces, SOMETIMES, pretend to be your friend. That was then. These days a lot of people see those smiling faces everywhere.

Not that most people around here will give a damn about my POV but I'm pretty well convinced that as we have grown farther from God in this country and, in some cases, co-opted god for our own purposes, we have forgotten how to forgive, understand and cherish one another.

I will put a bit more succinctly. We dont live and let live anymore.

CNN's Van Jones: "Even the most well-intentioned white person has a virus in his or her brain" | Disrn

CNN's Van Jones on Friday accused all white people of being racist, saying, "Even the most liberal, well-intentioned white person has a virus in his or her brain that can be activated at an instant."

Well, there you have it, all white people are automatically racist according to an expert. That should end all epithet's and race baiting from whites on whites because we're all equally guilty, right?

You seem to be missing the point. We all have prejudices socially ingrained within us. The mark of a good person is not whether or not they have prejudices; we all do. The point is whether or not you actively resist those prejudices, or allow yourself to be ruled by them.

ROFL! You seriously think the election of the leader of the racist Birther Movement, the movement which attacked a sitting black POTUS for nothing more than the colour of his skin, was just a coincidence. That Trump ran a campaign based on appealing to racists, and got their votes, because they weren't pissed at having had a black POTUS for eight years? :lamo

Trump and G.O.P. Candidates Escalate Race and Fear as Election Ploys

Some Republicans Still Think Obama Was Born in Kenya as Trump Resurrects Birther Conspiracy Theory
Perhaps unsurprisingly, respondents who voted for Donald Trump in the 2016 election were especially convinced of Obama's African origins: Fully 57 percent said it was "definitely true" or "probably true" that the 44th president came from Kenya.

Still holding onto those old fairy tales are ya. Asking for a president to prove hes born in the US is racist because hes black? That makes you the racist. You people don't even know what a racist is any more. You use the term to describe everything you don't like so much, it lost its meaning.

You need a refund from your "educational institution of higher learning". Its obvious you have been educated, just that most of what have been taught is flat wrong.

Anti intellectualism. Shocker.

You have a better analysis and insight on this subject than most. I believe culturalism plays a role in the dynamics of race relations. The financial oppression, lack of opportunities, and education, along with the infatuation of crime and violence from 'hip hop, gangster' culture keeps black society from advancing and reaching equal levels of prosperity?

You keep singling out white people which is in itself a very vague and general term as racist, and you say ALL white people are racist. Perhaps you are using an uncommon definition. Define what you mean to be racist.

There is one reason for disproportionate wealth and power. Racism. All groups are equal. An unequal outcome among groups, with sample sizes causing normalization of numbers, is always the result of racism. No race is inferior and thereby doomed to disproportionate poverty.

Poverty has many symptoms and cycles. Disproportionate poverty has only one cause.

I think the sensitivity dial is tweaked too high all the way around. Though social injustices should be addressed sensibly.

What we have going around the country is a combination of righteous indignation, racial oppression, overreaction, economic disparity, 40 million out of work, locked-in fever, political intolerance, broken gov, mob violence, activism, and other factors. A perfect storm of ****.

I think elitism is a form of racism in that it denigrates minorities and impoverished whites 'almost' equally. DJT seems to be more elitist than pure racist, though he's not above using their votes.

Poverty, historically, was more about racism or euro-based elitism but now is primarily about favoritism, education, experience, intellect, providence, qualifications, background, pedigree, luck, age, looks, and less about skin color. If you possess the right amount of ingredients, you can advance financially in today's world, especially if you're a minority. But monetary oppression, leveraged income disparity, and negative cultural stereotypes do still weigh heavily in society.

Anti intellectualism. Shocker.

No just my natural reaction to your illogical ill educated horse crap. Almost all people, whether white or otherwise are not naturally racist. The United States is certainly not a racist country nor are all of or even a large minority of the country.

The definition of racism I am using is as follows.
prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.

I provide the definition of bigot for comparison.
a person who is intolerant toward those holding different opinions.

Both definitions are from the Oxford Dictionary

Everyone has prejudices.........everyone.

The usual numb skulls on here quite often use the term racist in place of prejudice.
