CNN's Van Jones: "Even the most well-intentioned white person has a virus in his or her brain" | Disrn

CNN's Van Jones on Friday accused all white people of being racist, saying, "Even the most liberal, well-intentioned white person has a virus in his or her brain that can be activated at an instant."

"It's not the racist white person who is in the Ku Klux Klan that we have to worry about. It's the white liberal Hillary Clinton supporter walking her dog in Central Park who would tell you right now, you know, people like that – 'oh, I don't see race, race is no big deal to me, I see us all as the same, I give to charities.'

But the minute she sees a black man who she does not respect or who she has a slight thought against, she weaponized race like she had been trained by the Aryan Nation.

A Klan member could not have been better trained to pick up the phone and tell the police, 'It's a black man, African-American man, come get him.' So even the most liberal, well-intentioned white person has a virus in his or her brain that can be activated at an instant."

Well, there you have it, all white people are automatically racist according to an expert. That should end all epithet's and race baiting from whites on whites because we're all equally guilty, right?

My opinion

Everyone has bigoted ideas and thoughts to a certain degree. It is whether or not we recognize them and try to counter that tendency within us

I'd go one further. Everyone is at least a tiny bit racist, black white and Asian. It's jut part of being human.

What makes Van an "expert"?

Van Jones is a racist, pure and simple.

I agree, we all show cultural favoritism to some degree and slight racist tendencies but we're not all full on bigots as Van purports. Does this also include blacks, asians, latinos, etc or is it exclusive to white people? I know historically that whites and europeans have a history of dominant social bias.

We judge people based on many different factors, all depending on how well we know them personally. If I am walking on a dark street and I see a little old lady approaching I don't feel anxiety. But if I see a big young black man wearing a hoodie, I feel scared. This is common sense survival instincts.

If the little old lady is black and the big man is white, the feelings would be similar.

We have preconceptions and stereotypes, and that is how the mind works. It could not be otherwise. We HAVE to be prejudiced. Of course we try not to be UNFAIRLY prejudiced.

For example I am old, and I hate it when young people think I must be slow and stupid. But it's a fact that many old people ARE slow and stupid.

All my life I was judged unfairly because of being female. Well, it's up to us females to prove them wrong. And it's up to us old folks to prove we are not slow and stupid (unless we are). Too bad, but that's how it is. And if I were black I would consider it my challenge to prove that I am a smart and successful American.

Everything he said translates to all white people have a virus in their brain. A racist virus? You're either being disengenuous or have a comprehension problem.

People that say stuff like that generally fail to see the irony in their statement.

By saying one people of color are all racists, he's made himself a ________?

He called the election of DJT a whitelash.
"Experts" don't make stupid statements like that.

It's a subtle change from what I was taught growing up.

Smiling faces, SOMETIMES, pretend to be your friend. That was then. These days a lot of people see those smiling faces everywhere.

Not that most people around here will give a damn about my POV but I'm pretty well convinced that as we have grown farther from God in this country and, in some cases, co-opted god for our own purposes, we have forgotten how to forgive, understand and cherish one another.

CNN has him on as a pundit, talking head, and news commentator. He is a co-founder of several nonprofit organizations, including the Dream Corps, a "social justice accelerator" that operates three advocacy initiatives: #cut50, #Yeswecode and Green for All. He's often presented as CNN's resident expert on race relations.

He said well intentioned white person. That does not translate to all to me

Even though Van Jones is a lawyer, has been very active in many projects and won many awards, and his opinions have been highly regarded, I don't agree with very much of the things he says. I don't agree with this particular statement either. Van Jones is too radical far-left, for me. He's a lawyer, not a journalist, and his opinions aren't formed through investigative material or fact, they are more subjective and observant. Even regular viewers of CNN don't agree with Van Jones much. CNN gave him his own show in 2013, a debate show called Crossfire alongside Newt Gingrich, Stephanie Cutter and S.E. Cupp. The show made its debut in Sept. 2013 and by October 2014, the show was cancelled.

ROFL! You seriously think the election of the leader of the racist Birther Movement, the movement which attacked a sitting black POTUS for nothing more than the colour of his skin, was just a coincidence. That Trump ran a campaign based on appealing to racists, and got their votes, because they weren't pissed at having had a black POTUS for eight years? :lamo

Trump and G.O.P. Candidates Escalate Race and Fear as Election Ploys

Some Republicans Still Think Obama Was Born in Kenya as Trump Resurrects Birther Conspiracy Theory
Perhaps unsurprisingly, respondents who voted for Donald Trump in the 2016 election were especially convinced of Obama's African origins: Fully 57 percent said it was "definitely true" or "probably true" that the 44th president came from Kenya.

I agree that the term is not the best.
What should we call it when the only demographics trump decisively won are, "white", "white men", "white non-college grads"?

The world is struggling with COVID-19 .. and only white people in the U.S. struggle with COVID-KKK. Nice broad brush there Van Jones.

Forgiveness, patience, forbearance, caring, and understanding have all taken a backseat to intolerance, name calling, labels, accusations, and hatred. We're promoting a society of extremism, ignorance, financial disparity, and oppression.

Victory

Since the civil rights legislation was passed into law during the 1960's, and since the War on Poverty was declared, black rates of crime and illegitimacy have risen. Black academic performance, which was always low, has not risen, despite expensive government spending programs like Head Start and No Child Left Behind. Nevertheless, white sympathy for blacks has grown. It has become increasingly dangerous to criticize blacks. That is what I have difficulty understanding.

He said, "Even the most liberal, well-intentioned white person has a virus in his or her brain that can be activated at an instant."

That was not a compliment.

If you don't like the term, what else is there to explain?
