Minneapolis overwhelmed again by protests over Floyd death

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Fires burned unchecked and thousands protesting the police killing of George Floyd ignored a curfew as unrest overwhelmed authorities for another night in Minneapolis, and the governor acknowledged Saturday that he didn’t have enough manpower to contain the chaos.

The new round of tumult — which has also spread to other cities — came despite Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz vowing Friday to show a more forceful response than city leaders had the day before. But by early Saturday morning, Walz said he didn’t have enough troops, even with some 500 National Guardsmen.

“We do not have the numbers,” Walz said. “We cannot arrest people when we are trying to hold ground.”

Walz said he was moving quickly to mobilize more than 1,000 more Guard members, for a total of 1,700, and was considering the potential offer of federal military police. But he warned that even that might not be enough, saying he expected another difficult night Saturday.

It's a combination of bad factors: pandemic lockdown, a history of racial unrest in the American Midwest. It might take Federal troops to bring this under some kind of control.

They should focus on preventing arson and looting and forget arrests for now. Just photograph everything and everyone. The last riot in Canada was in Vancouver in 2011, over a hockey game (honest to God!). It took months but they identified and charged everyone involved.

Citizens: .... Can you guys the next response?

It is important to remember a lot of these people are not protesting over Floyd. They are professional protesters using this tragedy to cause damage and steal money. A lot of them are no even black.

I urge President Trump to grant the guards to use all the resources necessary to curb riots, disturbance, major violence, and terrorism-related social security issues. These aren't peaceful protests. They are criminals.

Innocent civilians need to stay at home. Don't be foolish. If there is a pandemic, why would you go outside at night near a large group of criminals? Stupid on dumb.

Mayor spox says that almost 80 percent of all arrested LAST NIGHT are from outside Minnesota and a good many from out of state.

They intend to contract trace the arrestees and compare with their criminal records from elsewhere and they plan to identify the worst culprits, so that Minneapolis can understand the forces acting on their city in days to come, as resident of the Southside begin cleaning up.

With the pandemic, President Trump needs to authorize more swift action. The national guard needs to take initiative, take out these terrorists. Setup IEDs, tear gas. Round up those scum.

Figures. Career criminals from out of town looking to make a quick score under the cover of a protest and civil unrest. Scumbags.

It is a pattern that repeats and has been repeating at most of these protests for years. The original groups march and protest, civil unrest escalates, eventually the protest begins to die down, then opportunists start to arrive.
The black bloc anarchy groups began messaging about burning it all down beginning May 28th AND the Boogaloo bunch on the very day George Floyd died.

Vultures from all over the spectrum.

Yup.

And it figures: what better cover than slipping into a noisy protest with a whole bunch of people roaming about and waiting until it gets a bit dark?

I am FROM South Minneapolis. The neighborhood where it ALL BEGAN is where I spent the best and most formative years of my youth.
I KNOW MY NEIGHBORHOOD very well.

The anarchists burned down the tiny apartment building where I first moved in back in the Seventies.
They left their "circle A" calling card on the side of the building.
Rent at that place is about 500 bucks a month, so the folks who lived there are hardly what anyone can call people of "privilege".

I know it's gotta be sad for you to watch this.

Well I just got off the phone with a dear friend who has been living in the Longfellow section of South Minneapolis for his entire life.
He's still living in the old family house, it was left to him so he sees no reason to move.

He was out there for the original protests, too old to do much but observe and offer water.
He says that the people from the neighborhood are all staying home tonight, the protesters are finished, and whoever is out there tonight (or as far as he's concerned...LAST NIGHT, TOO) isn't from there, and isn't there for George Floyd, and the National Guard should have their way with them.

Begs the question then....why is the Right wagging their fingers at the residents of Democrat run cities like Minneapolis when the destructive rioters aren't even from there?

Cover, same **** as always.

Hate it when a white cop abuses his authority like that but isn't Minneapolis a sanctuary city? What am am I missing?

Might as well lift the lockdowns. They're irrelevant, now. :lamo

You don't know when that got painted on there. It could have been there for years, for all you know.

Because the Mayors and governors don't stop them, but instead facilitate their actions.
