No president has been re-elected with an approval rating under 50%.

The ship keeps on sinking and it is beautiful. The desperation coming from the Trump camp and his minions everywhere is something to behold. With no actual accomplishments to run on, conspiracy theories and bogus "scandals" will be a continuous thing until November, as well as Trump throwing some red meat to his base on twitter like re-tweeting "the only good Democrat is a dead Democrat", or talking about shooting rioters and looters. Expect some race baiting campaign ads to come soon with regards to rioters the looters. It's all he has.

His Covid-19 response was briefly received kind of well in around mid March when he stoped calling it a hoax and decided to listen to Fauci and other health experts. But once he started retweeting right wing conspiracy theories about Fauci, and taking the position of "the cure is worse than the virus", and also his hilarious briefings/campaign rallies where he sparred with reporters, his poll numbers started to decline again.

Seriously, if he loses in November, it will be because he did it to himself. Biden is literally defeating this idiot from his freakin' basement. It's hilarious.

Absolutely. Biden would maximize his chances by just being completely silent. He (Trump) had so many opportunities to improve the response without resorting to slandering and contradicting everyone who disagreed with him, and it wouldn't cost a penny. It's like he's doubling down on his losses.

Biden is eventually going to have to get out there and campaign, and there will be lots of gaffes (Biden, though not as bad as Trump, is well know for this), but if he sticks to policy and avoids sparring with Trump with insults, and continues to let Trump sink himself, he'll be fine. Biden, because he's not Trump, has proven to be teflon himself. Ukraine, 2 phony GOP concocted sexual assault scandals, "Obamagate", accusations of dementia, etc, have all been thrown at him by the GOP, and yet he continues to lead Trump in the polls, and his favorables have gone up, not down. Obviously Trump and his goons in the GOP will be flinging lots more crap at him from now until November, but I don't believe it will work. People want Trump out of office, and are willing to ignore whatever flaws Biden has because the alternative is much MUCH worse.

What is alarming is we have 42% of Americans supporting that orange, America hating, piece of ****. One would think a guy that was a racist, pathological liar, that showered our countries enemies with praise and trashed those that served, would be at maybe 20%, but somehow his cult continually rationalizes all of that. It's really a blessing that most of those men and women that rallied and fought for our country's survival in WWII are not alive to see this.

I am convinced that in 20 years, 90% of those supporting him now will deny they ever did.

FiveThirtyEight is useless. In fact, it's worse than useless. It's a "weighted" average of bogus polls. In other words, it's whatever 538 wants it to be...based on polls that make up their own party affiliation sampling numbers.

To give you an example of how screwed up those polls are, they include 3 YouGov polls in the average. YouGov is an opt-in online poll weighted for party affiliation based on a 2016 study.

Sampling method

Respondents were selected from YouGov’s opt-in Internet panel using sample matching. A random sample (stratified by gender, age, race,education, geographic region, and voter registration) was selected from the 2016 American Community Study. Voter registration wa i mputed from the November 2016 Current Population Survey Registration and Voting Supplement.

Joe was much, much sharper in the Senate. He was a fine VP, but he has lost a step or two. I don't think that bothers many of us. Those old enough to remember his earlier days in the Senate know who he is. And at heart, he's the same man. Stronger after the death of his son Beau.

Joe's old. He handles himself fine for his age. And if his impressive wife Jill has to pull a Nancy Reagan, I'm on board with that.

My polling example showed FOX News as a contributor, showing 43% approval. Are they worse than useless? Just want to make sure I understand your definition of GIGO.

We’ve seen arrogant certainty before like this, then Trump won the first time. And most of liberal media damn near if not broke and cried on air.

I think a lot of people bought into his mountain of promises about draining the swamp, etc. They were truly sick of it, and gave him a chance. Now that they got to actually see the reality of his own actions, they just won't buy it anymore (fool me once shame on me...). I expect them to throw him out for the very same reasons that he originally had a perceived edge -- lesser of two evils.

If you are so certain that Trump will be defeated in November 2020, what is the point of such threads?

Do try to recall, back in 2016 virtually every poll (aside from Rasmussen) had Trump losing massively in almost every State. Meanwhile, almost every political talking head, News anchor, talk show host, and pundit of all stripes were declaring in no uncertain terms...Trump will NEVER be elected President.



The polls showed him worse off prior to his election in 2016 than currently:



Is this why so many members keep pushing this kind of story? Keep saying "So what? People didn't know him then, and they do now."

Perhaps, but Trump was assailed by constant negative press back then too. EVERY indicator pointed to "a snowball had a better chance in Hell" than Trump winning.

Now I am NOT saying he will win in 2020. I didn't prognosticate in 2016, and I won't today.

But I know who I intend to vote for, and I don't see anything changing that absent his "killing someone on Fifth Ave." (or something equally outrageous). I don't see much change in the people who voted for him last time either.

So my response is always going to be...time will tell.

Meanwhile, the answer to my "who are you trying to convince?" question is... Yourself IMHO.

True, but this happened before Trump. We're now in year 4 of after Trump and a lot has changed. Biggest difference is Hillary isn't his opponent.

Not to disagree with the substance of your post, but I didn't read the OP that way. He presented some polls and made inferences on the trends. They sounded legitimate to me. 2016 is irrelevant, and a sinking trend is a sinking trend, regardless of what happens in November. It shows Trump is in trouble. He knows this from his own internal polling.

You know what I don't understand is this. What are the 42.6% approving of? Trump's followers never defend their hero. They avoid him. They prefer talking about Biden, Hillary, Schiff, Flynn, and a far right Obama conspiracy from 3 1/2 years ago.
