pResident me-me-me's handling of this pandemic is inexplicable. In the beginning rather than ramping up a serious response he downplayed it's seriousness. Finally, Fauchi must have hit him on the back of the head with a 2x4, he admitted that nearly 1/4 million people would die if we didn't lock down the country and do whatever necessary to mitigate this killer virus. Now, that "WE" were successful in following Fauchi's advice and beat the odds and had many few deaths he want's to pretend the threat is gone and do everything contrary to the advice he's getting from medical experts. :doh

Yes, to survive economically we need to get the country going, but there is a right and wrong way to do it. And Donnie me-me-me is choosing the wrong way. Medical experts agree that wearing a mask can cut the spread of COVID by 80%, but Me-me-me refuses to wear one and because of that example his followers are … following suit. Medical experts warn against large gatherings for any reason, Me-me-me want's people, sans a mask, crowding beaches, bars and church's

In three months we zoomed past, Me-me-me's prediction of, 15 cases and no deaths to 1 3/4 MILLION cases and 101 THOUSAND deaths, while most experts agree that had Me-me-me taken COVID seriously from the beginning those numbers could have been cut by a 1/3 or more. Now, against his own best interests he's recommending risky behavior, that is totally unnecessary, setting a bad example by refusing to wear a mask and gathering in large groups, and, worst of all, firing up his "base" to refuse to be sensible … aggressively so.

The man, to quote Rex Tillerson, is a ****IN MORON! He thinks divisiveness is what won him the election and keeps his "base" in line, so damn the torpedo's VIRUS full steam ahead! His handling of this PANDEMIC has been a failure in EVERY way and he continues to make the wrong choices at EVERY turn. Dum-da Dum-dum … DUMB!!!!

Trump has viewed the virus through the prism of how it will effect him, from the beginning.

He downplayed it initially, because he didn't want to be seen hurting the economy.

Then when it got serious, he didn't want to be seen as responsible for a lot of death, so he advocated shutting down.

Finally, when he saw the damage to the economy and the fact his supporters didn't care about the deaths, he wanted everything opened back up immediately.

Thank you for this very original take on current events.

Here's a fact. Hong Kong has a population equal to that of New York City. Hong Kong has had 4 deaths from Covid-19....F O U R.

It was predicted that Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan would be hotbeds of Covid-19 infections. As it turned out that didn't happen. At the beginning of the outbreak in China, Singapore was at high risk for having an influx of travelers from mainland China because of the Lunar New Year. But Singapore's aggressive response largely stemmed off the viruses spread, at least on the scale seen in other countries. As of today, Singapore had just 32,876 confirmed cases, 17,276 recovered and 23 deaths. A major reason why the country has been able to handle the virus has been early intervention and transparency on the part of the Singapore government.

Hong Kong was immediately ready to implement disease prevention measures, having learned its lessons from the large death toll it suffered after the 2003 SARS outbreak in which almost 300 people died. Soon after people caught news of the new coronavirus, they were using hand sanitizer and malls and offices had set up thermal scanners, and everyone was required to wear masks which was the norm for Hong Kong anyway, but now it's strictly enforced.

Same with Taiwan, to date they've had 441 confirmed cases, 416 recovered and 7 deaths.

Here's the fact as proven by countries such as these, masks work, hand washing works, social distancing works -- but only if everyone practices these infection control methods as one country not only part of the country.

Much truth here so far, but we all know it is wishful thinking to believe Americans will do what it takes, most will but that is not good enough. We have proven over the last several weeks that for some it simply dies not matter to them how many die. God Help Us, we're are an Arrogant People, and about to learn a Harsh lesson.

Hong Kong and Singapore had responsible leadership. We've got Trump. Nuff said.

Wise man! You see it for what it is, as many of us adult Americans. Trump is not only thin-skinned, but transparent to a fault.

And worse, you know it's the same people who'll jump the border from.their ****ed up areas into those better under control. Undoing all of their efforts.

"'Cuz it's 'murica and I can go wherever I want!"

I've said it before:

Mother nature has been trying to kill us off for a long time.

But we're too damn clever.

This time it looks like she may have figured out how to get the stupid people to help her.

Almost every day I have to move the "Well, this could all go massively ****ty" probability meter up a bit.

It is masterful that the narrarative being argued is whether the shutdown hurt more than it helped and not that the shutdown might never have been necessary had trump acted quickly.

Would almost certainly have been much less universal had the virus been contained where it first appeared through testing isolating and contact tracing.

Pick up everybody's full tab who gets caught up and it would have cost a tiny fraction of what our shotgun approach did. Billions, not trillions.

Grant them some hero status in the messaging. Use the whole thing to bring us together around beating this thing. Our "Apollo" moment.

This is one thing that enrages me in this.

We chuck death at the drop of a hat in the billions of dollars. We absolutely positively could have kicked this things ass. Trump could have been a hero. He could have risen to the occasion and been given credit from those who he would assume would not.

This is a bad one. It would have tested the best we ever had.

Trump didn't even show up for the exam. If he doesn't take the test he can't fail it, fight.

Sorry.

TL/DR

We are arguing about how to clean up this mess and not talking about who's responsible for it. I don't think the kid who spilled the paint gets to decide how its cleaned up and who has to do it.

Well done.

As I am for a while, i am tired of trying to talk sense into People. The chips are going to fall as they may, be ready for it, it is coming....

IMO, he was looking towards the November elections, so he asked "What's the quickest way to get past this?" It's the critical piece of information he would most want to know. He must have asked that question.

And one of his trusted aides (because obviously he's not going to trust an egghead) said "Have everyone get it as quickly as possible, so everyone is immune and it's done. That's the way the flu works."

And Trump's "Nothing to worry about," delay testing, delay providing needed equipment strategy was born.

Except the POTUS does not have the authority to quarantine and the experts who say three weeks would have made a huge difference are referring to Andrew Cuomo's failure and not President Trump's.

But Trump has been doing, and will be doing, exactly what's best for Trump. He's not going to change and suddenly become a strong leader that can pull the country together. He's going to be doing his same old schtick that he's done for his entire life. Threaten people, bully them on social media, protect his interests and that of his kids, and there's nobody else more important than his survival -- not that of his party, but his own personal survival.

He's a selfish, arrogant man and we couldn't have chosen a weaker, less effective man to lead during a pandemic than Donald Trump. The history books are already being filled with incidences of the ineptness and incompetence of his administration.

Except the POTUS does not have the authority to quarantine and the experts who say three weeks would have made a huge difference are referring to Andrew Cuomo's failure and not President Trump's.

That's simply not true. Trump did nothing but pretend the virus was not a threat for a month to six weeks. He could have used that time to identify what would be needed and ramp up production, do contact tracing, and make more restrictive and definitive travel restrictions.

instead:

He didn't head the warnings of Scientists and made up stories about the seriousness of this virus. AND … he still is refusing to listen to medical experts and making up stories about how we need to get the country rolling again. OUR Country needs to get going but not in the caviler way he and his followers are going about it. It will come back to haunt him, again and more people will die, needlessly, because he chooses to be an ID 10 T.

I have feared his Plutocratic backers are will push for an Autocracy (which they are) IF pResident me-me-me gets reelected; which they are. But in the mean time we have an IDIOCRACY that many Americans won't survive to see the next administration.

Absolutely why let facts get in the way of obfuscating pResident me-me-me's fumbling of this pandemic when you can go full commando with a Trump Devotion Sickness "Tantrum". Never mind real AmeriCANs are dyeing because Me-me-me's reelection is all he gives a **** about!

It is just annoying to me to see people only viewing this from a partisan Twumpy Bad Bad Bad Boy lens. Polarizing this issue will keep us from developing and implementing a more responsive infectious disease protocol going forward. Perhaps I am a unicorn in this regard. I already knew this was going to eventually happen and bite us in the ass simply by having a relative go through the superbug slow death process and having seen the flaws in the system. Knowing that the CDC is working on such an infection sounds impressive when you are in the moment, but then after they are dead you have to ask yourself why the hell the hospitals themselves needed the CDC lab's involvement. Our system just wasn't built to handle a new widespread infection. Hopefully we will build a better system in the backside, but the way the dems are pouting, I am inclined to believe they will instead block progress and blame Trump for their obstruction.

People like you-and what will happen to you if Trump wins, is a major reason I will vote for him this fall.

I really want to vote for Trump for exactly the same reason but I really really cannot make myself do it so I will go Green. It is a battle between my spite gene and my values gene.

I like the judges Trump has appointed-two of them I know well because one was in the same office and another was a long time career law clerk for a Magistrate I appeared in front of almost weekly.

Other than thinking the 9th Circuit is out of its effing mind, I really don't have a dog in the federal court fight. I have some very serious concerns about some of the environmental issues as they relate to protecting species and habitat though being more a conservationist than an environmentalist. Obama probably went too far for the wrong reasons so some of the rollbacks I get. Some of them send chills down my spine.

People like you-and what will happen to you if Trump wins, is a major reason I will vote for him this fall.

Let's be realistic, only reason why you're voting for Trump in November is because he has an R next to his name. There is no other reason in your case.

That's what the GOP did to Obama during his presidency. Interesting how Republicans don't like when the shoe is on the other foot, not that I buy into your Trump is the victim narrative any way.

I didn't say anything about Trump being a victim. Society is the victim. Now go back to looting target or whatever it is you democrats are doing in the name of "justice" these days.

^^ Modern day GOP folks. No ideas, policies, accomplishments, ability to govern, nothing. Laughable parroted talking points, conspiracy theories, and "insults" is all they have. What a joke of an ideology. You people don't even know what the hell you stand for anymore other than to piss off "the libs".
