I saw this question on Twitter this morning, and thought I would pose it here.

If you could meet any modern-day politician, who would it be, and why?

Please no, “Donald Trump so I could throw a rock at him,” or, “Nancy Pelosi so I could push her in the mud.”

I chose John Lewis. He was one of the original 13 Freedom Riders. I’d love to sit and have a cup of coffee with him and just let him talk. I would venture to guess he has some pretty amazing, albeit heartbreaking stories.

A president.

Jimmy Carter... even though he was one of the worst presidents, he is at the top of the list of humanitarians.

Meh after this long his stories are probably pretty canned meat products. I have no idea who I would pick, but I guess it would be someone who could be unexpected as to what we would chat about. Knowing what is going to be discussed might be fine for work, but it is really boring otherwise.

Schiff! and Pelosi! To me they are:

I can't single out any politician, but I wouldn't mind sitting down with MLK.

Not to everyone. That's your choice, but you shouldn't denigrate someone else's choice - even if you think one of the greatest civil rights leaders of our country has stories considered "boring," or "canned meat."

Trump. I’d like to thank him for persevering through all the insanity from the opposition and continuing to implement “America First” policies.

I probably would enjoy sipping some whiskey with Trey Gowdy. That might be fun. As far as meaningful enlightenment goes, I seriously doubt any politician has much to offer. I'm likely wrong, but politicians in general aren't a group I'd consider for such things.

I didn't denigrate anybody else's choice. I simply expressed my belief that people like that are boring to me. If you want to hear their story live you can probably read about on the internet go ahead.

You need to correct mistakes when writing. Bolded part should read "Trump first policies". Never in his entire life has Trump put anyone ahead of himself, not even his own family.

For your knowledge, "American First" includes Blacks, Browns, Women, Poor, and even opponents-to-your-own-thinking. In fact, the latter is probably the most important because working as a team and using everyone's expertise and knowledge to accomplish "America First" policies is what incorporates all Americans into the equation, not just Americans that are white, rich and those that agree with you. Americans mean everyone, no matter color, race, religion or opinion.

If you were honest, intelligent, and fair, you would realize that what I am saying is a Golden Rule and not just my opinion.

Obama. I don't need to explain that, right?

Honestly, that could be said about any politician today.

Clearly this thread is not for you.

Ta.

Not even a little bit.

But if he's there, Michelle has to be there, too.

Honestly, I'd love to just hug them and tell them I'm sorry for all the douche bags who hassled/will continue to hassle them, but they are tough. They got this. Always have. Was going to take a strong family to be the first family of color in the White House, and they certainly fit that bill.

I'm hoping to act as an intellectual sponge.

I am sure there are politicians out there who have interesting stories that have nothing to do with bias-confirming blah. Clearly anything other than blah is not for you. Perhaps other posters know of interesting backstories.

Historical figures like Fidel Castro I would want to talk about their baseball career and aspirations not their politics. Bernie used to be a folk singer, Lincoln Chafee used to be a blacksmith. I would find conversations about those things more interesting than hear them wax and wane about anything political.

I don't think you would have a problem with that at all.

I'm afraid I'd waste too much time running my mouth. There's so much I'd appreciate validated.

Teddy Roosevelt cause he seems like a fun guy.

Franklin Roosevelt cause he's mysterious, and led the country through WWII. Most everyone liked Stalin, except for FDR.

Eisenhower. He started us off on Vietnam. Would be interested to see what he thought of it now.

Would you please show me where I said that it had to be about "bias confirming blah?" You'll be hard-pressed to find where I asked for that. In fact, I thought I was pretty clear in hoping that this didn't turn into a mud-slinging fest, but more of a, "What would you like to talk to them about?" thread.

Good answers.

And I have been posting about what I would like to talk to them about. You are the one that just cannot accept that some people would like to talk to politicians about something other than politics. Wonder is AOC has any interesting bartender stories? Surely she has seem some women go at it ripping out weaves and crap.

One great thing about talking with Obama is he could decide what to talk about and I know it's gonna be amazing. I don't need to worry about directing the conversation or having questions answered. Whatever happens, I learn something. Whatever happens, I leave with something new to think about for a long time.

Is this not what I have been talking about in some detail? Are you deliberately trying to be argumentative?

^^ This. Thank you. THIS is what I am talking about.

Geez.

i'd like to have a cigarette and a large coke with Bloomberg.
