I can answer that question for you very easily. First, let's agree that we are not talking about the kind of severe mental illness you would see in a mental hospital. A severely mentally ill, psychotic, person cannot do the simplest kind of job, and getting elected and functioning as US president is not a simple job.

Rather, we are talking about forms of mental illness where the person can function well in society. Maybe a mild version of a personality disorder like narcissism or sociopathy.

Does Trump have that? Well yes and no. We usually diagnose people with this type of mental illness if they are someone we don't like. The more we hate them, the more mentally ill they will seem to be.

So if you hate Trump, then yes he is mentally ill. If you like Trump, then no of course he is not mentally ill.

Case closed, question answered.

He's a narcissistic, egomaniac, delusional pile of **** who cannot stand being told "no". Of course he's mentally ill.

In other words, you don't like him. See what I mean?

You enjoy talking to yourself?

What's to like in that?

And then of course there's the fact that many of us know folks suffering from one or another of trump's maladies. He shares all the relevant symptoms.

So in consensus reality, he's mentally ill.

In conservative reality it's not mental illness it's irrational hatred of their hero.

And since the latter is only shared by consumers of conservative media, I'm gonna go with the consensus one with all kinds of different media.

Is Trump mentally ill? Without a doubt yes.

Who can say for sure? I really don't think he has a diagnosable mental illness. He is simply a power hungry man with a massive ego and no moral compass.

So what exactly was your purpose, when you decided to start this thread, other than to call out anyone who doesn't support Trump?

I'm not a psychiatrist, but if you look up narcissistic personality disorder, he pretty much checks every block.

Well I said the definition of this kind of mental illness is anyone you don't like. So you know folks that you don't like, that you consider to be mentally ill. And Trump reminds you of them. So he is mentally ill.

Can you see the confound in your reasoning?

I have argued that Trump is mentally ill for the past two years. Notwithstanding the obvious fact that incompetence is not a mental illness, his paranoia and narcissism are extreme, and he is sociopath. He does not concern himself with the consequences of his decisions or his statements.

Most recently, his promotion of the drug, hydroxychloroquine, and his claim that he took the drug for two weeks, probably caused death or injury to some of his gullible followers. Trump didn't care.

There are countless examples in which his decisions unnecessarily cost lives or created a global crisis. Trump doesn't care. Please see: A report card on the Trump administration

As of April 3, Trump’s 1,170th day in office, our database shows that he has made 18,000 false or misleading claims. Since our last update 75 days ago, he’s been averaging just over 23 claims a day. That’s slightly higher than the 22 a day he recorded in 2019.

Trump himself defines truthful hyperbole.

“The final key to the way I promote is bravado. I play to people’s fantasies. People may not always think big themselves, but they can still get very excited by those who do. That’s why a little hyperbole never hurts. People want to believe that something is the biggest and the greatest and the most spectacular. I call it truthful hyperbole. It’s an innocent form of exaggeration—and a very effective form of promotion.”

“I Call It Truthful Hyperbole”: The Most Popular Quotes From Trump’s “

Are these the attributes of a mentally healthy man?

Ok, you read the title but you didn't read the OP. If you don't like Trump, then of course he is mentally ill. Do you see the point of this post?

Just think of all the topics we could revisit using the OP’s logic.

Is Ted Bundy a murderer? If you say no then you like him. If you say yes then you hate him.

Did Bill Clinton have an affair with Monica Lewinsky? If you say no then you like him. If you say yes then you hate him.

Wheeeeee!

I agree, he has no actual diagnosable mental illness. That has not stopped Trump-hating psychiatrists from diagnosing him though.

As for not having a moral compass, I don't know. That's subjective also. Our enemies never seem to have a conscience. Of course not, since they are rotten to us obviously they have no feelings. But ask their friends if they have a conscious and you get a different answer.

In other words, you don't like him. See what I mean?

I see no reason to be behind a morally bankrupt, dictator-wanna-be, delusions of grandure having pile of **** running the Republic into the ground. I didn't like Obama or Bush either, but I don't think they were mentally ill. Just standard Republocrat status quo corporate-statists.

That is very different. I carefully explained that we are not talking about obvious forms of mental illness. We know that a severely psychotic mental patient could not get himself elected president.

And by the way, people who liked Bill Clinton were much more likely to excuse or minimize his affairs.

Maybe you think Trump is mentally ill because he doesn't fit the presidential stereotype. He's an obnoxious egotistical loudmouth. But that is hardly a psychiatric diagnosis.

I think those who followed and believed the lefts and MSM delusion for the last three and half years suffer from a severe mental deficiency....they cannot think for themselves. From what we now know, the Russian hoax was just that, a hoax....and more is to come, yet the mentally deficient will NOT believe the truth, but rather lay in the lies. It's a serious mental problem, which was fostered upon them by the DNC and the MSM. Their heroes, in whom they have followed wholeheartedly have placed them in a similar position as an alcoholic or drug addict.....now they must admit their problem to begin recovery, but sadly most will not.

So what exactly was your purpose, when you decided to start this thread, other than to call out anyone who doesn't support Trump?

Trying to help you all get some perspective. I have noticed people diagnosing everyone they hate, or can't get along with, as mentally ill, and I noticed they do the same thing with Trump.

When we don't understand someone, they seem crazy. When someone hates us, we assume there must be something wrong with them. When we hate someone, we assume it's because of their problems, not because of ours.

The general public has very little idea of what "mentally ill" means. Mental health professionals don't understand it very well either.

There are obvious cases that we can diagnose as schizophrenic by glancing at them -- they are striding along the street shouting obscenities at people we can't see.

And then there are people we know, who tell us they are chronically depressed or anxious, and who might be taking drugs for it. Yes, they have a mental illness.

And there are people with severe personality disorders who can't get along with anyone.

And there are narcissists and sociopaths who care only about themselves. But that's where it gets tricky. Because anyone we can't get along with seems to be a narcissist/sociopath.

If the whole country despised Trump, then it might be a little easier to decide if he really is a sociopath. But he is respected by many. No matter how much you might hate him, you have to recognize that not everyone agrees with you.

Of course, then you can say that all his followers also have some kind of mental illness. But no.

Sometimes people you don't like really are mentally ill. I had a BDE CSM at 1st ID CAB, who was my direct boss, who wasn't very popular, to say the least. He was diagnosed with manic depression and took medication for it.

I mean, it happens.

Not even close to closed. He's having the party of a lifetime. He's delivering on his campaign promise to bring chaos to the status quo, and enjoying every minute of it. He's driving nutz the same democrats who laughed at him when he first said he was considering a run for the presidential office, back when he was a democrat.

Now, with very little effort, he's made himself the great white whale for the democrats, and we all know how that story ended. Captain Ahab became food for the fishes. Trump is laughing himself silly. The inconsistent SOB knows that inconsistency does not make DC happy. :rofl

Yes some people actually are mentally ill, as I said. They have trouble functioning and need drugs.

It's hard to find the line between mental illness and normal nuttiness. I think what Trump has is probably just normal nuttiness, unconventionality, defiance, bravado. I doubt he has to take psychiatric drugs to function.

When people accuse him of being seriously mentally ill, I think that is their hatred talking. Calling people crazy is a common insult. If I call someone crazy I am saying they are not to be trusted, they are not rational. It's a way to discredit them.
