We don't have an state income tax here in Florida. However, if we did I doubt we would tax voulenteers that came here to help out after a hurricane disaster.

Well maybe if we had a Democrat administration they may try to do crap like that.

Normally that is the tax measure made by almost every state that takes out state taxes when you work out of state. Why does this surprise you it's been going on for many, many years.

You actually pay taxes based on where you work, although different states have different waiting periods or income thresholds for when you actually have to start paying them. DC is actually a special case where they exempt taxes from nonresidents who work there.

It used to be that you could end up with double taxation as the working state and residency state would both try and tax you. They still often do, but after a relatively recent SCOTUS decision the residency state is required to provide a credit based on taxes paid to another state for income earned in that state.

And these are just general rules with a bunch of intracicies that often make filing state taxes when working/living in different states a nightmare.

They answered the call to help, the State and city should grant a waiver in taxing them.

You realize you get a credit on your home state taxes for what you pay for out of state tax? Almost all states work like this. Quite prevalent around here becuase many work but live in another state, NY, NJ, CT, PA. If its enough money CA could eventually go after you legally. Not smart to antagonize.

The question here is not are they legally justified to impose the filthy tax. The Moon Bat Democrats in New York have that stupid law on the books. It is not in contention.

The moral question is SHOULD they do it to volunteer health care workers that risked a lot to come to the state and help with a major health care disaster?

The tax code is the law it is not a partisan edict. I agree they should have some consideration to relief yet that has not been addressed since the state legislature has not addressed it.

If they are VOLUNTEERING than they are not being paid and the point is moot. If they are getting paid, probably at higher rates, I see no reason to exclude them. They would be taxed by their home state in any case. The laws on the books are not exclusive to one party. However this is just an excuse for you to rant and rave about liberals, democrats and commies. I hope you feel better.

I wouldn't be so sure. I can't link to a conversation I had but I saw more than one person agree with that version of players and state taxes. If you find out different let me know. It's baked into the system is my understanding and not so hard to do since players, I believe, get paid by the game.
