The Democrats in New York are now saying that they are going to require that the contract health workers that came in to help out with the virus pay the filthy NY income tax.

My god those Democrats are assholes! That is as greedy as it gets. Despicable!

Good luck ever getting anybody else from out of state to help them out.

I live in Florida. Back in the 1990s I was went to California to work on an Engineering proposal. I worked there for a little over three months.

A couple of months after I got back I received a letter from the filthy ass government in California saying that I owe them income tax for the money I earned while working in the state.

I sent a letter back to them telling them to shove it where the sun don't shine. They can kiss my Cracker ass.

Same thing happens if you work in Alabama.

Is it the filthy Democrats???

The real question is where you do you get that there is an exception in the tax laws for health care workers who come to the state to help out with COVID-19?
I'd like you to show me an exception used by Texas, Florida or other Republican states during Hurricanes or other disasters.
Anything?

Is it the filthy Democrats???

I'm not so sure about that. For years I worked in DC (at the Washington Navy Yard), lived in MD and was paid by a defense contract company in VA. I paid only MD state income taxes on my salary.

I can assure you that Texas does not have a state income tax.

I bet those that helped with disaster recovery in Texas still payed taxes... We're they exempted from paying sales tax while they are there? Greedy Republicans!

My point is that state income taxes are paid to your state of residency, regardless of where your job site(s) were. You seem to remain clueless that Texas does not have a state income tax.

So they still payed taxes to Texas! Greedy Republicans!

As a resident of NYC... these volunteers should get a waiver.

There is no reason that they shouldn't

You pay taxes according to where you live. If they are living in NY for about 3 months, that is where you pay your taxes for 3 months. Have you ever read a tax form

It is simply not possible that they paid Texas state income taxes. Your "greedy republicants" argument makes no sense.

Please point out where I said INCOME taxes. I did specifically talk about SALES taxes.
Greedy Republicans!

Hmm... that seems to amount to taxation without representation. I seriously doubt if congress critters pay DC income taxes for the months that they lived and worked there.

The OP is about state income taxes - if you are talking about sales taxes then that is off topic.

Texas has no state income tax period

Nice try. Tell me how Democrats are greedy for collecting taxes from people helping out because of a crisis, but Republicans aren't greedy for collecting taxes from people helping out because of a crisis.

Try harder.

If the state is collecting money through income taxes, it's greed...but through sales taxes, it's not?

Please have a little bit of intellectual honesty.

In the future when NY has some disaster and needs help, people should just say die you greedy scum.

Maybe not, but if you read a tax form, it asks have you lived in that particular state for the entire year and you must name other states in which you have resided in that year

It seems a lot of posters are unaware of how working out of state and taxes actually work.

I would say that it would have been a nice gesture for New York to give volunteers waivers but that's separate from the ignorance surrounding taxes.

Yes, and you must keep in mind that if that health care worker lived in another state for only 9 months, they are only obligated to pay taxes for that state for those nine months

Why is anyone who is still working during this paying taxes? Everywhere not just NY. Essential workers are funding nonessential workers to stay home currently. Risking their lives daily to provide for those hiding in fear.

It is especially obscene to take money from these health care workers brought in to save NYC and give it to DeBlasio. Hope NYC doesn't need help again.......

My understanding is that even professional sports teams have to pay taxes to the state where the games are played unless there is a tax-pact between the home state and state where the game is played.

It's also possible that these people may owe a city tax, which I'm guessing that NYC has a local tax of some kind which would be in addition to the state income tax. I actually was born and lived in New York State for 21 years. Loved the scenery but the people and the government drove me away. I moved away and never came back and I'm glad now more than ever.

NYC does have a city tax.

It should be waived for volunteers.
