Breaking news: President Donald Trump has fired yet another experienced and respected Intelligence professional: Community Inspector General Michael Atkinson -- who had told Congress about the whistleblower complaint that led to Trump's impeachment.

Trump fires intelligence community watchdog who told Congress about whistleblower complaint that led to impeachment - CNNPolitics

Talk about shooting the messenger. What did this guy do wrong? What was he supposed to do when he received the whistleblower complaint? He followed proper standard protocol and procedure. Is trump trying to create an environment of fear and intimidation in the intelligence community so that future whistleblowers will just be ignored by their superiors?

Atkinson was under investigation ...

January 6, 2020 - "... Nunes, R-CA, spoke to this reporter for Monday’s podcast. He revealed that transcripts of Atkinson’s secret testimony will expose that the Inspector General either lied or he needs to make corrections to his statements to lawmakers. The transcripts has been kept from the public by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-CA, because it is damaging to their “impeachment scam,” Nunes said. ..."

Despicable...but not unexpected from this vile administration. :(

Couldn't happen to a more deserving Deep Stater.

Hey...Atkinson...don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you.

Oh, I'm sure. If not ignored, perhaps immediately reported to him personally, so he can act out his vengeance in his own psycho way.

Wait- how was he a “deep stater“? What was he supposed to do with the whistleblower complaint? Do you know there are laws on the book detailing the protocol and procedure to be followed in a whistle-blower situation? Was he supposed to just break the law and protocol in order to not be a “deep-stater”?

This is the “law and order” president? This is just very odd.

On the bright side for Atkinson: there is always CNN offering jobs to "contributors" ... and then there are always the famous book deals ...

Wait, the president can just fire inspector generals? How the hell are they supposed to do independent investigations when the president can just fire them if they don't get the findings he wants? I assumed there were more protections for IG independence.

Of course trump is completely corrupt for this, as are his cult for supporting it.

If he was "fired," then it is because the President decided it was best to do so. Period.

Neither you nor I need to know the reasons, because apparently this individual served at the pleasure of the President.

If or when someone in this Forum becomes President, then they can also decide whom to fire and whom to appoint, and they don't have to explain either.

I find it funny how all the armchair quarterbacks in this Forum don't seem to know how this system works. :coffeepap:

Such idiocy. No wonder trump's approval is above zero. Someone who thinks that any power used in any manner is great, and can't tell a good use from a bad use.

Hell hath no fury like a woman sniveling manbaby scorned.

trump knew his cult would be along to defend more deconstruction of the legislative branch — mcconnell and the rest of the goPutin senators own this catastrophe of a pre$idency

Not the first time trump has deflected from a problem — with the gop invertebrates silent as always — trump controlling the media and the narrative — trump preparing to fight the media on another topic, as he did today with wonder boy

The protection for protocols and IG Independence is... wait for it... The Attorney General!

However, Bill Barr is nothing more than an ass-kissing Trump sycophant, who doesn't give a damn about the rule of law or the American people; he's there to follow Trump's orders, and nothing else.

Neither of us might not need to know know the reason, but everyone knows the reason...

No. :naughty

"Everyone knows" is an argumentum ad populum. The fallacy of asserting something must be true because many, most, or (even falsely as you've just done) "everyone" knows the reason.

That is not an argument, it is an assertion based on confirmation bias.

Try again? :coffeepap:

Well aren't you a precious innocent? :2razz: Philosophically you might be right, if you want to get all technical about it. Although here in the real world people know he's vindictive, not because everyone else knows, it's because they can judge someones character.

Technically you can claim the video of Don bragging about out grabbing a women's *****, has nothing whatsoever to do with his leering and licking his lips as he stares at your daughter's legs. Most people can judge his character well enough to know they shouldn't leave her alone in the same room...

yawn...

I'm not going to get into the ample evidence of Atkinson's shenanigans.

However, you should demand that Schiffty releases the hidden basement, closed door testimony that Atkinson gave to the House Intel committee. While you are at it, you should be demanding that Schiffty explain himself about WHY he is withholding that testimony, since he has already released testimony from almost all of the other people he calling into the basement.

According to more than one Representative, that testimony is being withheld for a reason. Unfortunately, those Representatives cannot talk about any of the details of that testimony without running afoul of the law.

Only Schiffty can provide that transparency.

Deep stater. Who knew that Trump supporters were so feckless that anyone who’s been in the same job since 2017 is under suspicion.

Oh...and speaking of Schiffty, here is what HE had to say when he heard the news...

Trump’s dead of night decision to fire ICIG Michael Atkinson is another blatant attempt to gut the independence of the Intelligence Community and retaliate against those who dare to expose presidential wrongdoing.

It puts our country and national security at even greater risk. pic.twitter.com/Pnm7chdIkl

— Adam Schiff (@RepAdamSchiff) April 4, 2020

Spoken like a true supporter of the Deep State. But what Schiffty deliberately ignores is the the fact the NO agency in the Executive Branch is "independent". They ALL answer to the President. And, when they work against their boss, they deserve to be fired and the President is well within his legal, moral and ethical rights to do just that.

btw, Schiffty is exposing...for all to see...his butthurtedness for failing in his attempt to remove Trump from Office. Regardless his wild and unproven claims, it was determined that there was NO "presidential wrongdoing".

One other consideration...

I don't know if the Trump hating media has told y'all about it, but there has been action by the FISA Court and, in compliance with their orders, by the DOJ and FBI in regard to FISA abuse. You know...that stuff that Horowitz documented last year. Due to his previous job...the one he held before he became the ICIG, Atkinson is involved, neck-deep, in that FISA abuse.

Now...if criminal charges are coming at him, the last thing the Trump administration would want is to have that guy filling an important position like the ICIG. It's much better to cut him loose and get someone else into the position who won't have that kind of baggage.

And yes...a good President will know if any of his subordinates are likely to be facing criminal action...especially when there are investigations being conducted by his own executive branch agencies.

Wow. You acknowledge I am correct...then double down with more fallacious responses.

Not only do you reassert another argumentum ad populum, you throw in a couple of ad hominins, then go off on a deflection tangent.

Tsk, tsk. :naughty

Tagline time. :coffeepap:

The bolded being when he worked for DOJ NSD. That's the group that refused any Inspector General oversight. In light of recent disclosures, we now know why that oversight was refused.

the person in question is under investigation for lying. if you tell a bunch of lies to your boss and he fires you for it is he vile?

i thought you leftist hated lies.

He didn't just "work for the DOJ NSD". He was the Chief Legal Counsel. He was the one responsible for the accuracy reviews of FISA warrant applications, which we are finding out were spectacularly lacking in accuracy.

So yes...it's not surprising that the DOJ NSD refused all oversight.

This is a can of worms being opened. As I said, it is likely that criminal charges will be a result. And Atkinson is neck-deep in the mess.
