The Left Wins On Education

Your alternative seems to be a largely illiterate society.

No, that's what government schools are creating. They are also creating mass innumeracy as well:

Zero Students Proficient In Math At 13 Baltimore City High Schools | 92 Q

Before you start screaming about more money, Baltimore school spending is among the highest in the country:

https://www.bizjournals.com/baltimore/news/2018/05/21/five-maryland-school-districts-rank-among-top-10.html

The problem is socialism sucks. There is no accountability, because failing schools will never lose funding. The teachers, principals, and other educrats will all get their salaries, full benefits, and their gold-plated pensions no matter how many illiterate and innumerate adults they produce. In fact, under socialism, the worse they perform the more likely they will get an even bigger budget next year.

But wait, there's more. By turning out thousands of idiots, they virtually guarantee a larger voting base for Democrats, who of course will always vote to increase school funding, and support big government:

Bringing this country to a standstill for we can Reform it

Incorporating "Patriotism" in all our schools everyday

This leads to more of a virtuous citizenry

This isn't a Teacher bashing thread. Although they're also part of the enabling

Define patriotism. In my book, who fought in Vietnam were patriots, as were people who opposed the war. A president who humps the flag is not a patriot.

Why did the right just give up all the power in education? Think

Did the left steal it?

Think
Time you thought a little. I gave you the clues above. Put them together.

This may sound strange, but some of the posts in this thread - even my brilliant contribution perhaps - lend weight to concerns about the failure of our educational system.

Wow, I'm impressed. That's a huge step to make for someone on the political left. Rest assured, every progressive on this forum that read your post clutched their pearls with great intensity.

I'm not the pearl clutching type, but I do ask this question....

Why should the public fund a school that then tells them they have no say in the curriculum? More to the point....if the public is funding a school, how the hell does it get to call itself private, and if it can't call itself private, then what are we really talking about here?

Explained that, too.

No you didn't. Did the left use tanks to take over education?

Why cant the right have influence in education today? Is there a law stopping them?

If you want to get the government out of it completely, I'm all for that idea.

If you want to get the government out of it completely, I'm all for that idea.

Just tell me what country that works in.

It would be a disaster of an experiment

If you want to get the government out of it completely, I'm all for that idea.

I don't want to get the government out of it completely...that was the point.

There isn't a country that ranks higher than us in education that doesn't have government run education. Not one.

When you got an idea that isn't going to end in complete ****ing disaster, get back to me.

I don't want to get the government out of it completely...that was the point.

I know, I was being facetious. But why on earth do you believe the state should determine what your kid is taught?

There isn't a country that ranks higher than us in education that doesn't have government run education. Not one.

Yes, it's very beneficial for the state to control what kids learn, therefore, and not surprisingly, all states control what kids learn.

I have an idea, let's ask the parents themselves this question:

"Regarding your kid's education, would you prefer to have a voucher in order to select the private school of your choice, or would you prefer that your child be assigned to a public school by the government?

Gee, I wonder which one they would pick.

Wouldn't teaching kids to love all humanity be even more virtuous? Why the focus on tribalism? That has never worked that well in the past.

All these geopolitical lines are, or at least should be, primarily for administrative purposes. They become a problem though when people start taking them too seriously, and start thinking that it's OK to treat people on the other side of that artificial line in a way other than fellow human beings.

Wouldn't teaching kids to love all humanity be even more virtuous?

Nope(Obviously)

That's the **** we teach them now

Lets see, tolerance, understanding, empathy, compassion and kind.....ness

Anything but Patriotism

Yet they dont pick that. They elect politicians that support public schools. The people have spoken

And what does that look like? What do teachers need to do everyday to teach kids to love America?

That's up to the parents to change things. Most kids just continue the cycle when they get older and have children.

You're wording the question wrong. How is giving BAD teachers a raise going to solve that? We need to pay GOOD teachers well so that they will stay in the profession and more will want to enter the profession knowing that they won't just get a raise across the board. They have to work for it.

And what does that look like? What do teachers need to do everyday to teach kids to love America?

If I was a teacher, I would work on teaching kids daily to recite the whole Patrick Henry's "Give me liberty or give me death" speech

It puts you in a whole another level Josie

That's up to the parents to change things

And what is the purpose of education(Hello) ? You're totally wrong on that. Who gets the parents to change Joise?
Most kids just continue the cycle when they get older and have children.

Hint

You basically said all our MAIN problems in Education stem from the parents did you not? So, what you're saying is in VAIN. In other words, it doesn't matter if there's good teachers obviously. That's not the main problem

Yet they dont pick that. They elect politicians that support public schools. The people have spoken

. The people have spoken

Psst......

Isn't your income dependent on education?

And what does that have to do with anything?

I mean, I still as an American can disagree with our vain education system right?

Do you think i'm "$bought$ or something?

Yep, they get the majority of our "Moderate" U.S. Population to go along

By the way, we're at best 17th in the world in Education

Did you have a point somewhere??????

And right wingers NEVER, EVER support public education.

If it were up to the talk radio right ,we’d be 200th. And they would still run stories in trash blogs about college professors who don’t reflect the no nothing line, and make students look stupid. Those are right wing hobby horses I’ve heard all my life (and they predate me). Stereotypes for people with comic book minds.

Define patriotism. In my book, who fought in Vietnam were patriots, as were people who opposed the war. A president who humps the flag is not a patriot.

Not in my book

What the hell does Vietnam have to do with Patriotism?

Yes yes....you hate free elections. We know

And why you keep poo pooing this?
