Trump Campaign’s Threat on TV Licenses May Be Mostly Bluster

My response had nothing to do with the ad. My response was media networks who are knowingly falsifying information to the general public should be held accountable.

Ah! Now I understand. You think it is time to establish the Federal Ministry of Truth.

Ah! Now I understand. You think it is time to establish the Federal Ministry of Truth.

I understand your need to protect the ability of news organizations to promote fake news and falsify information without regard for facts. Without it, what would you have?

Have you ever noticed that data from reputable sources, even conservative sources like the Cato Institute, is considered laughable by most of Trump's base? Sites like Info Wars and Stormfront have become the goto information sources for many of them. Crazy times.

Nobody I know or have ever known uses Info Wars as a go to source. But you seem too.

Good. I am glad to hear it. Making fake accusations to create hysteria while taking advantage of a major crisis should have their license revoked.

I didn't hear you bitching about it when Facsbook stated doing it over Russian propaganda.

I recall a lot of bitching over Facebooks acceptance of russian propaganda.

There is no act more pernicious, more anti-AMerican, pro dictatorship, than accusing the vigorious free press, one that is necessary for a democracy to function, as 'the enemy of the people'.

But, of course, the right accepts Trump's position as valid, and thus Trump has manipulated 45% of the population to accept anti-american ideas.

It is therefore reasonable to call the president as 'the enemy of the people', as the ranks of anti-american ideas take root and grow, which would include all that arises from such an enemy, because democracy is at stake.

But, of course, the premise eludes you.

No matter how far right the Supreme Court has become, criticizing an American president is as American as apple pie, and I sincerely doubt any SCOTUS judge, no matter who appointed him or her, will side with Trump on this one.

You see. Thats the problem with Liberals. They love to put words in your mouth so they have something to argue about. Show me where I said anyones claim was bogus.

If they received a cease and desist and decided to ignore it, they will be served with a lawsuit.

And they will lose when it becomes obvious that the lawsuit infringes on the 1st admendment.

Indeed, and that is Mr. Trump's standard tactic. Of course he loses more than half of them - lots more.

I understand your need to protect the ability of news organizations to promote fake news and falsify information without regard for facts. Without it, what would you have?

You would be left with "Pravda" and "Isvestia" and, as the old saying went "There is no truth in News and there is no news in Truth.".

On the other hand, I am always glad to see staunch conservatives bravely standing up for the right of private capital to make profits in any way that the owners of the enterprises feel like making profits.

As outlined by the conservative economist Milton Friedman in his 1962 book Capitalism and Freedom, (Capitalism and Freedom: Fortieth Anniversary Edition – University of Chicago Press 15 NOV 2002 [ISBN - 10:0226264211 / ISBN - 13:9780226264219]) the principle of shareholder primacy insists that "corporations have no higher purpose than maximizing profits for their shareholders”. That means that the purpose of a company is NOT (at least not on purpose) to make the world a better place. Rather it means that the job of the capitalist is to do anything legal to make money – regardless of consequences to others, and that (as the representatives of those same shareholders) corporate bosses have the same duty.

Thus the purpose of a “Capitalist News Media” is NOT to “report news” but rather it is to make as much money as possible. It also means that the purpose of a “Capitalist Pharmaceutical Company” is NOT to “manufacture healing medications – rather it is to make as much money as possible. It also means that the purpose of a “Capitalist Insurance Company” is NOT to “provide reasonably priced insurance against adverse happenings” – rather it is to make as much money as possible.

(as I have previously posted)

I guess America disagrees with you. CNN tanked to the lowest rated cable news provider over fake news. Trump said fake news and fake news providers are the enemy of the people. He NEVER said the free press was the enemy of the people.

But you just live to regurgitate anything the left says.

The FCC can censor 1st Amendment rights.
Not in an arbitrary manner. As long as the ad doesn’t violate any existing restrictions, there isn’t anything the FCC can do.

Even if the ads were pulled pending litigation, the public backlash would be much worse for Trump.

Nope, applauding stopping idiots from screaming fire in a movie theater.
You are misquoting and misrepresenting what Justice Holmes said.

“The most stringent protection of free speech would not protect a man in falsely shouting ‘Fire’ in a theatre and causing a panic… The question in every case is whether the words used are used in such circumstances and are of such a nature as to create a clear and present danger ....”

Nothing in the ad rises to the level of creating any danger to the public.

Trump Campaign’s Threat on TV Licenses May Be Mostly Bluster.

It wouldn't be the first time.

Trump said Saturday that he's considering a short-term quarantine of "hot spots" in parts of the tri-state area -- New York, New Jersey and Connecticut -- where cases of coronavirus continue to rise.

This is a typical statement from Trump. First, he says he is thinking about something. Then he lies. I doubt there are many people eager to quarantine New York. Then he says he might not do it. Then he says there is a possibility of doing it today. Then he says whatever he does will be short-term as if afraid some people might not like him for doing whatever it is he is going to do.

This is Trump, trying and failing to have it both ways. He is severely hampered by his lack of intelligence.

"We're thinking about certain things. Some people would like to see New York quarantined because it's a hotspot. ... We might not have to do it, but there's a possibility that sometime today we'll do a quarantine, short-term, two weeks on New York. Probably New Jersey, certain parts of Connecticut," he told reporters.

Then Trump canceled the whole idea. All this happened in one day, Saturday.

The BBC reports, "Trump said quarantining New York "will not be necessary", after the state's governor said doing so would be "preposterous'."

This guy is a joke. Turns out he was thinking out loud. Imagine that, the President was thinking out loud to reporters!

How stupid can you get?

But this is pure Trump. His severe narcissism requires that he constantly must bring attention to himself, and that is true even when he purposely makes a complete fool of himself.

Now Trump is backing off of his hopeless aspiration that the country will be “opened up” by Easter Sunday, saying that deaths due to the coronavirus will likely peak in two weeks. Give me one reason why we should believe that statement.

”Nothing would be worse than declaring victory before the victory is won," Trump said. That is very funny. His medical experts -- when Trump gave them a chance to talk -- were saying that all week.

We have no reason to believe anything he says about this crisis. Trump placed Pence in charge of this health crisis. Whatever happened to that idea?

Trump is a wartime President. If you have any doubt about that, just ask him.

Well, turns out, in a poll taken two days ago, Biden is beating the wartime President by nine points, 49-40, in a poll taken by Fox News, euphemistically called the Trump Network. A rival beating a wartime President? That is unprecedented!

Fox News Poll: Biden leads Trump, wins high marks for female VP pledge | Fox News

This will come as no surprise to anyone. Despite the heavy criticism, his supporters are nowhere around. Most are beginning to think they made a bad mistake.

I can list at least 40 from the left. Show us these fake news stories. Bet you won't.

Yes, you were talking about the ad.

Your first post was specifically directed at the ad.

Regardless, neither the ad nor the news media has produced or promoted any language that falls outside 1st Amendment protections.

Disagree? Post examples of what you think fall outside 1st Amendment protections (w/links, of course).

You make this so easy, don't you.

On January 18, 2019, a widely reported confrontation between some Catholic high school kids and a Native American that took place near the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. The leftist media portrayed the students as racist for attacking a lone Native American.

The leftist media portrayed the Catholic students as the aggressors. Reports of the incident triggered outrage in the United States, including calls to doxx the students. The students received death threats and the Covington Catholic High School temporarily closed due to fears for its students safety. The high school kid was reported as the most punchable face in America.

The short videos of the encounter from CNN. NYT, Vox, Maddow, and the rest were uploaded to social media platforms Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. They received millions of views and were widely shared. The incident was described by The New York Times as an explosive convergence of race, religion and ideological beliefs and a Vox editorial called it the nation's biggest story. The Independent argued that the incident was proof that prejudiced sentiments about Catholicism in the US runs deep, adding that progressive Americans view anti-Catholicism as the last acceptable face of prejudice in the twenty-first century United States.

Then the entire video these leftist media groups had was found and released and what did we find out? THEY ALL KNOWINGLY LIED. The students were the ones attacked but the media wanted to portray the kids as racist and prejudiced just because they were wearing MAGA hats. The face-off between a teenager and Native American activist Nathan Phillips was captured on photos and viral videos revealing days later that leftist media reactions had misrepresented or omitted critical details of the incident.

In January 2020, CNN, was the first to settle out of court for their fake news story.

Is that one good enough or did you need more? This isn't a 1st amendment issue. Its putting the lives of these kids in danger just for a fake news story.

Fail
Nothing the media broadcasted encouraged threats or violence. Those who overreacted were entirely responsible for their own behavior.

Matter of fact, it doesn’t come close to the bigoted, divisive, and inciteful rhetoric Trump spews that has encouraged numerous assaults on immigrants.
