Liberty University is allowing students to go back to campus

Let's hope the devastation to the economy will be worth it and not as bad as it looks like it is going to be.

American lives are worth it.

The rich and fearful: 'I don't give a damn how many people lose their jobs and whether or not thousands of businesses close, I do not want anyone moving until I am sure I cannot catch the virus myself.'

Good for them. They know the risk of getting sick is minimal and the risk of dying is even smaller. Let everyone else go crazy, they are still free to act responsibly even if the rest of the world does not.

Yep, they are acting responsibly by spreading the virus to their parents and grandparents when they go home.

There is no cure for stupid. The Jesus freak Repug Party proved that a long time ago.

Nobody is trying to stop the spread of the virus completely. That cannot be done. The best we can do is slow the virus. People who live in communities which do not have any cases yet are not at as great a risk as people who come from areas with risks. But communities with no cases cannot stop people from other areas coming here as a method of stopping the spread of the virus. If you think we are being unwise then you must think we should shut everyone out of our communities, close the doors, and lock the gates. Try to use some common sense.

Since you proudly proclaim yourself as very conservative, you can't lecture others on "common sense". Liberty University has guaranteed the death of at least a few parents and grandparents for these students, with their stupid decision. This virus is ravaging older Americans and these students are going to give them the virus.

You obviously haven't learned anything from this current crisis. Hopefully you don't learn the hard way.

If the university shelters kids in place to keep them from getting infected in their high risk home states how is that a bad thing?

And what makes you think that is going to happen? Typical Repug wishful thinking?

If they are in close quarters and this article is true, it will spread there as well and quickly. That is not a good thing.

If we are to eliminate all risks then we should lock down hospitals, shut down all transportation, close down grocery stores and, especially, close liquor stores, which are not being closed down in NC under the sweeping closures ordered by the governor.

How exactly would doing that eliminate all risk? Many of those things you mention just introduce other risks.

Bottom line here is simple: People should be at HOME, not on a college campus. Everybody should be on lockdown, except under emergency situations, until we come with some sort of vaccine. It was awfully dumb for Falwell to put his students at risk, and now he's paying the price.

I wonder if he has any liability here?
I saw that Fox News is starting to look into their legal liability for downplaying the crisis. Could be some interesting court cases after this is calmed down.

So you think massive closings will not eliminate all risks? I believe you must be right.

nobody thinks the mass closings eliminate all risk

You think the kids would be safer in their own homes in neighborhoods with high infection incidents. I respect the right of parents to disagree with that opinion.

Not understanding your point here. Being in your own home = high infection incidents? What in the world does that mean? These "kids" (College students are adults) should be locked in their house and only be allowed to get food and medicine. Unless these "kids" are in lockdown and cannot go home or roam college towns, I do not see the point.

I suspect all of us here lack several details pertaining to the decisions these parents and school officials made and I see no justification in condemning their judgment, especially since we don't have any way of knowing all the details pertaining to why they decided to do what they did.

Have you ever been in a dorm?

It was Falwell Jr's decision. In dorms, people SHARE bathrooms and squeezed into tight spaces. There are so many people that roam the hallways and touch everything. In this time, when we're doing social distancing, this is a horrible decision and its already failed. How many more college students have to go to the hospital and get medical treatment over Falwell's ignorance?

Like I said before, these people are to the right of me politically and holds terrible views on civil rights in this country, but I do not wish them any harm.
