This is a huge event not only for SE Texas, but the country and beyond. The event attracts millions of visitors each year, as well as vendors and livestock breeders world wide. It provides millions in college scholarship, which officials said would be distributed in spite of the closing.

This was also the week that the kids (4H, FFA, etc.) were to begin showing their animals that they have raised and cared for this past year. Some had just off loaded their animals while others still had theirs in the trailers. It's an event they look forward to all year long, so of course they were devastated.

Vendors and exhibitors will lose money. Advance ticket purchases will have to be refunded.
