I’ve been saying that this country has a great test coming in November. That test is going to show US all just what we think is truly important. This last year in particular, we have learned a great deal about the Republican party, Donald Trump and how far each is willing to go to win and at what cost to our country. On the other side of that we have also seen a huge rise in outrage over far right-wing attitudes and actions against this country, the exposes on Trump; the latest is Scotland is investigating the source of his money in buying Scottish land for his golf courses, money laundering is suspected.

Having said all that, what will Americans do this November? With outrage at its current rate and Trump only adding to the 17,000 lies that he has told so far, CAN the Democrats actually run an armadillo against Trump and win? Will Americans vote in a super majority in both houses as well? Does the country really care THAT much that we will just sweep the right-wing and Mitch Mcconnell under the rock where they belong? Or will we just stay home on election day? Will we settle for business as usual and let the right keep a senate majority? Americans will gets pretty strong in times of crisis, will Americans come out of the walls to clean up the country?

An interesting set of questions in my mind: what do you really think will happen, given the mood of the country today?

I think there are millions of voters who are tired of Trump's antics and his tweets. I think he's going to be voted out of office.

If he would've acted presidential, or at least kept his mouth shut, he would've won.

I can't speak for other Americans, just myself.

For me, actions speak louder than words.

What have I seen from the Democrats over the last three years?

Intolerance, hate speech, divisive identity politics, misrepresentation of facts, constant attempts to undermine and/or oust the currently elected Administration, combined with denigration of anyone who doesn't agree with them. This has resulted in a constant stream of moral panic tactics coupled with overt propaganda efforts via the MSM which IMO have served to divide this nation almost (but thankfully so far not quite) to the point of civil war.

What have I seen from Trump over the last three years?

A pugilistic attitude coupled with diarrhea of the mouth responsiveness and a self-aggrandizing public persona; but who has also tried, and often succeeded to meet his stated goals and promises. This despite all efforts from both his own Party and the Opposition Party, as well as special interests and the MSM to road block him from success.

Basically I will vote for Trump, and I hope that he will prevail come November 2020. I think (at this point in time) he has a good chance of winning.

Time will tell.

That's culty.

Interesting. So you have no problem with all the factual reports of Trump's rather conniving behavior and his obvious disrespect for people and the office? I'm not trying to trash him, just test your commitment to vote for him. Do you think that, despite your opinion on party behavior, the country as a whole has enough will through a desire to rein in the right, that the country will just throw them all out, or do you see it as just more politics that will end with business as usual?

^ This is the one correct thing you said in your post. Then it was all downhill from there...

Trump woke the sleeping giant, the real silent majority, the decent people of America. We're gonna roll that dirtbag and his cultists.

Would that be the 94 million citizens of voting age that didn’t vote in 2016, or the 8 million that voted third party? I guarantee you the RNC and Parscale’s digital know who and where they are. They know which of their CDs underperformed in 2018, unusual for the gop in a midterm election.

Never trumper Ana Navarro is warning DEMs about your state and the lead gops have digitally, especially in the Latinx community. Sanders would be a disaster after his Cuban comments, and would likely hurt swingy DEMs who flipped CDs in 2018. It will be tough for Biden.

IMO, I think that the Traitor in Chief will get kicked to the curb, whether he runs against Biden or Sanders. Things were different in '16. Trump was an egotistical, racist, ignorant media whore and everyone knew that. If he ran against Sanders in that election, Sanders probably would have won. If Joe Biden would have run, something I would have liked to see, then we would have a President Biden today in the White House. But....Hillary was the nominee, someone who was not well liked by all, kind of cocky, and didn't do what was needed to gain votes in all states. She did win the popular vote, but that doesn't get you the Presidency.

Now, since Trump has been in office for a while, Americans have a good taste for what he is all about. He's violated his oath and does not serve the country, he serves only himself first and his family (brand) second.

He is selfish and has no regard for the constitution or rule of law. He is ignorant and illiterate, yet he childishly accuses other people, true patriots and reputable characters, of being 'dumb as a rock'. His bullying, insults and slander is getting very old for most Americans who do not want to see an incompetent a-hole running the country and threatening our national security. He not only disrespects our troops, but he put them in harm's way with his erratic and uninformed actions.

He is corrupt and deceptive, and wants to use his power to act as a mob boss, dictator, king. He is truly a lowly piece of scum, so are his supporters, and this has become painfully clear to all Americans. He serves at the pleasure of Mr. Putin, and has truly shown he is, without a doubt, Putin's Puppet....just as Hillary so wisely stated.

Trump has serious mental issues. He has severe narcissistic personality disorder. He is a pathological liar. He is emotionally retarded, thin-skinned and cannot differentiate constructive criticism from shallow unfounded attacks that he's used to throwing at anyone who dares to go against him or disagree with him....or who just are convenient for him to attack, competitors or their wives. He is a sexist who is threatened by strong intelligent women, yet he is a eunuch, has no confidence in his own manhood, and rightly so. He never matured mentally or emotionally.

I could go on and on, but I don't think I have to. Aside from the mesmerized cultists who worhip the new coward, thinking Americans have had enough of the chaos, corruption, division, racism and uncertainty of this 'administration'. He has turned back important protections for our environment, he has constantly tried to make America white again, he has done favors only for his corporate cronies, those who kiss his a** and protect him with the understanding of getting the same....can we say Roger Stone? He wants to cut back on the ACA, punishing people for pre-existing conditions. He wants to take away Medicare and Social Security from American seniors who worked hard all their lives and paid taxes. He wants to cut government assistance for the poor and middle class who need it, etc., etc.

Unless he has a major assist from his lover and master Mr. Putin again in this upcoming election, I think the cowardly dunce will be history....we'll see. He fires many around him because they won't cover up his corruption, he surrounds himself with loyal sycophants....that is not what the United States of America is all about....and there are enough patriotic Americans who say "stop the insanity"!

Well said and you make my point about the real feelings that this country has about him. Do you think that there is enough to ensure his defeat AND ensure a super majority in both houses?

An interesting set of questions in my mind: what do you really think will happen, given the mood of the country today?

The answer to your question in bold, no. An armadillo, no. History has shown that on average those who are Republicans and Democrats will vote for their candidate 90% of the time regardless of who that candidate is. Call it party loyalty or the gulf in ideology, polarization and partisanship. The Democratic Party which has been the larger of the two parties since FDR, now finds themselves fairly evenly matched when it comes to numbers and the percentage of the electorate.

2020 boils down to who can win the independent vote. Trump won independents in 2016 and the white house. That was when both major party candidates were very disliked by Americans as a whole. Except their supporters that is. Independents still don't like Trump much giving him a 41% favorable/54% unfavorable. In 2016 those numbers were 40% favorable/57% unfavorable. The problem is independents don't care much for the two remaining Democratic candidates either. 30/47 for Biden, 30/48 for Sanders.

Trump's numbers have been consistent since election day 2016. They're not going to change much. There's plenty of time for both Biden and Sanders to improve their numbers among independents. The question is, can they? In 2016 12% of independents voted third party, against both Clinton and Trump. They refused to choose between the two evils as they seen the two major party candidates. Will 2020 end up being a rematch between two evils? That remains to be seen.

I always figured the Democrats should win 2020 fairly easily, especially with as much dislike out there for Trump. But the numbers say it's not going to be easy. Perhaps it all depends on how united the Democrats will become after the primaries. Can they unite? Can they attract the independent voter in a way they couldn't in 2016? I don't know the answers, not yet anyway.

Personally I don't put much faith in the numbers. My faith goes to election day. Do you believe that it's possible that the anti Trump votes will just come out of the woodwork that day? and what about a super majority in both houses?

I'm not sure, I just hope for the best. I trust the voters will do the right thing.

My monthly forecast answers your questions.

https://www.debatepolitics.com/blog...e-and-presidency-forecast-1-march-2020-a.html

You have the senate, the house and the presidency all rolled into one. Let me put a caveat on that, as of 1 Mar that is how I see things. I do those monthly to keep up with the changes in dynamics and trends. Trends are much more important than the numbers themselves. That is why I add the history at the bottom.

As in 2016 the American Working People will show up and vote Trump as President once again....then we'll see the demmies cry once again. Only this time there are far more "working people"....the time of listening to the lies of "free stuff" are over....time to dig in and support your own family, grow a set and stand like a man.

I would say we have been failing the test since 2016. Anyone not a complete idiot knew Trump earned his money via money laundering. First he did it by bankrupting casinos (funneling mob money in and out of it like a laundry mat), and then he did it through his condo/real estate scams, making cash transactions with Russian mobsters. He was also credibly accused of defrauding the students at his university. So, in my mind, the country failed miserably. And, if tens of thousands now die of plague as a result...
