"Mike Pence doesn't believe in science" - AOC

Well, is he to blame for an HIV breakout? Let's examine the evidence, shall we?

NOOO!

They don't want evidence. They will deny, call it evil librul media, whatever they have to. They could give a **** about facts. They just want to bitch and moan. They just want to attack without explaining why.

No, I am not wrong. Within a few months of the first reported cases, Pence declared a public health emergency.

The number of HIV cases found in a remote Indiana county has grown to 120, according to numbers released Friday by the state’s health department, after 79 cases were confirmed there over the last few months. Ten additional cases are awaiting confirmation.

Pence implemented his support for a needle exchange program in March of 2015.
The dozens of cases, described as an epidemic, are centered in Scott County, about a half-hour north of Louisville with a population of about 25,000. Indiana Governor Mike Pence declared a public health emergency there in March after dozens of cases of HIV were discovered.

Indiana HIV Outbreak Linked to Heroin, Drug Use | Time

Do you have the slightest clue what a public health EMERGENCY means?

His delay caused 79 more people to become infected and who knows how many of those 79 people died because of his delay.

Yes, after SEVENTY NINE more people were already infected with HIV and some DIED because of his intentional 29 day DELAY! The public outrage forced Pence to make the decision, not his conscience!

Anything that mitigates the consequences of actions encourages those actions. With only the occasional exceptions of course.
You are as uninformed and hateful as Mike Pence.

That is not how the government is supposed to work. Clean needles stop the spread of infectious disease that is expensive to treat, and the distribution of them doesn't encourage people to abuse drugs.

I hate to break the news to you but she's absolutely correct. No, he's not responsible for HIV but his inaction resulted in deaths that shouldn't have happened. Mike Pence refused to allow dispensing sterile needles to drug users during the HIV crisis which contributed to needle sharing, which in turn resulted in more HIV infections and more deaths. He wasn't able to put aside his moral judgement of others in order to save people from that deadly virus. He thought it could all go away through prayer. Wrong.

In 2014 during the Ebola outbreak, Trump criticizing President Barack Obama for his selection of an Ebola czar with "zero experience". He tweeted; "Obama just appointed an Ebola Czar with zero experience in the medical area and zero experience in infectious disease control. A TOTAL JOKE!,"

Mike Pence is just not competent to do this job and should not be the person coordinating this response. We need someone with experience, someone who can pick up the phone and interact with our foreign partners, someone who can pull the levers of foreign policy for the state department and other departments and agencies overseas. We need someone experienced and capable of interacting with all those agencies that can suppress the outbreak at its source around the world. Trump needs to appoint someone who can interact with HHS, the CDC, the Dept of Labor and Dept of education to make sure we are prepared right here at home. Mike Pence is just not the right person to be coordinating this response.

A big part of the reason he joined with Trump, as his political future in Indiana was considered doomed by this, and quality people don't go knocking on Trump's door.

Ain't we lucky.

I admit it, I am a male trapped in a male's body! (lucky me, I don't have to deal with people who have no understanding of science to naysay me)

Nope, it just means you don't have a disorder.

Gene Pool cleaning at work. If you're dumb enough to use drugs, you've accepted the consequences.

I don't wanna pay for peoples' shooting needles. The point is to STOP drug use, NOT ENCOURAGE it.

...and that's why alcohol and tobacco (far more deadly than any illegal drug) are banned as well? Drugs have been used since before we dropped out of the trees. Nice self-righteousness though

So Mike Pence doesn't believe in science but AOC and the left says we have 64 genders?

The hypocrisy is just laughable.

do you know what gender is?

Deeply fundamentalist evangelicals dream of end times scenarios like a global plague that wipes out large parts of the population, who they happen to believe are "the wicked" anyway.

Suffice it to say that these funny mentalists have a huge End Times Boner right now, and this is why the current administration is acting like they want people to die.

It's because they do.

The epidemic in the city of Austin in IN. started in 2015. By March 2015, Pence declared a public health emergency for Scott County that allowed for a temporary needle exchange. In May, he signed a bill making it easier for other counties to launch needle exchange program. Later that year Pence announced the formation of the Governor’s Task Force on Drug Enforcement, Treatment and Prevention to combat drug abuse across the state.

According to the 2016 New England Journal of Medicine study, syringe exchange programs are associated with a 56 percent reduction in the risk of HIV infection. A chart shows HIV diagnoses in Scott County began tapering off within months of the emergency syringe program starting.

In 2018, Scott County reported seven new cases of HIV, down from 157 reported in 2015." Pence and the HIV outbreak: How he responded to Austin epidemic

So you're wrong.

He's not wrong. Pence did act, but almost a year after health officials called for action. Do you think he'll wait a year in this position?

Pence will do as told by Don, never question a thing, and funnel money to all the right people, meaning anyone not working on behalf of the American people or finding a cure for this illness but are reliable donors to the GOP.

Link?

Prove the assertion in bold or admit you just lied.

Research the story. Pence's decisions as Governor had a direct impact on Indiana's HIV growth.

So unless we give drug addicts free needles and a safe place to shoot up we're risking an AIDS epidemic?

Look, facilitating bad behavior doesn't fix a damned thing. If you really want to help the drug addicts then you have to get them away from the drugs and away from the people they associate with.

Trump keeps eliminating positions and firing great government servants with years of knowledge and experience to replace them with people with NO education or experience in the field. He has to resort to appointing unqualified people as "ACTING" XXXXX in charge because nobody that's competent will work of him.

The Trump administration recently requested $2.5 billion in emergency funds to prepare the U.S. for a possible widespread outbreak of coronavirus …

...that money might not be necessary if the administration hadn’t spent the past two years largely dismantling government units that were designed to protect against pandemics …

The cuts started in 2018, as the White House focused on eliminating funding to Obama-era disease security programs. In March of that year, Rear Adm. Timothy Ziemer, whose job it was to lead the U.S. response in the event of a pandemic, abruptly left the administration and his global health security team was disbanded.

Pence is a perfect example incompetents staffing this administration, but he is the glue the pultocrats are using to bond themselves to the tRump administration.

….and the distribution of them doesn't encourage people to abuse drugs.

Yes it does. You're basically saying "You wanna shoot up? Okay...here's a free needle!"

You're suppose to say "No needles for you. Go to rehab!"

The situation isn't that simple. Pence did what you are suggesting and 20+ people can down with HIV and it spreads into the non-addict population. Needles are cheaper. You first stop the spread of disease and then you can focus on helping the addict.

They are already addicts. They may be an addict but they don't have HIV or Hep-C but if they decide to share a dirty needle then they can contract HIV, HepC or a number of other viruses. That makes the problem much worse and harder to treat.

You can't go to rehab if you can't afford it and many addicts are not ready to face the issue.

You have any actual evidence of this? I would be defined as a "fundamentalist evangelical" yet I don't. At least not anytime in the foreseeable future.
