ex-intelligence official Malcolm Nance describes process of turning trump supporters into a cult

Al Franken has a podcast, and he and Nance talk for an hour, about trump and Russians largely. It's the first time I've heard someone describe the brainwashing of trump supporters and turning them into a blindly unquestioning cult as an intentional act, rather than just 'something that happened' as a mystery.

They get into that topic somewhat from a compliment for trump by Franken, when Franken says trump does have a real talent, that he saw things in how to manipulate the American people that Franken had not seen - I've made a similar comment.

Franken mentions watching the first trump-Hillary debate thinking trump was a disaster, and felt relieved it had wiped out trump's chances to win, and was surprised when many did not see it that way. They talk about the cult issues - as well as the Russian hacking and how Nance suspects trump is a longtime Russian asset.

Nance talks a bit about this grooming of a cult as longtime Russian procedure they'd developed for developing support from populations of nations they controlled. Franken refers to it as being 'completely tribal', gaining complete loyalty by telling 40% their tribe will win and be in power, the other 60% don't matter. It fits a lot of what we see from trump and his cult.

Imagine the once strong on national defense republicans now wearing shirts that read I'd rather be russian than a democrat. And they call the left crazy.

In all of my years on this earth I have never seen anything like this. It seems the more trump lies the more his base loves him. Is it because of the hatred he constantly spits at others? Is it because he constantly bashes democrats. Is it because he makes fun of people with disabilities. Is it because he speaks poorly of real war heroes? Disrespects gold star families. Trashes and smashes people who want to come to america? Blames everyone but himself for his failures? Is it because he plays victim all the time? Is it because he is trying to destroy every institution in america?

Whatever it is his base loves him. Absolutely disgusting.

It's simpler than that; they're too ****ing stupid and mentally challenged to figure stuff out for themselves. All truth comes from Trump, and that, as far as they are concerned, is all that matters.

Russia and cult talk...... the poor democrats really don't know how to beat the president in 2020
All the usual things they do to republicans don't work.

First they said Trump supporters were deplorable. Now they say they all are in a cult.
Is it any wonder why the democratic party will suffer large losses in the 2020 election.
WHAT have the democrats done for the American people in the last 3 years? Nothing.
The have pushed Trump hate and that is it. Nothing else!!

That's actually how Nance describes the process, as creating a sort of bubble of information around people which gets them to not use their own information, but blindly only listen to the information they're given instead.

His description fits what we see well; we're simply shocked to see it work on Americans. It could sound a bit wild, then you remember things like Bannon and Cambridge Analytica and what they did (in other articles I linked recently no one looked at...) Doubt anyone will listen to Nance either, but it's linked for them. And really, the articles were even better.

Except, that was really very different - one person seducing others, and it was less of a blind cult than people think. They made people 'drink the koolaid' at gunpoint... This is a quite different process.

Yes, except in this case the 'gunpoint' is stoking up fear of non-existent 'socialism' (communism in the minds of the cult). The sheer number of conservatives on this place who think Sanders is a communist infiltrator shows just how well propaganda works if one is gullible enough.

Going to get a chance to hear Nance's discussion? He might be a controversial figure, but it's of some interest, and people listen to it can share their opinion.

You have to laugh or else you'll cry. Trump comes up with a name for someone and like parrots it's repeated on here constantly. The gop is regressing into a bunch of childish vindictive bullies.

Ahhh a perfect example of the cult speak...

First they said SOME tRump supporters are the deplorables- white supremist, 'nativists' who smear all immigrants, and the like who publicly support tRump's policies with little or very delayed mumbles from The Don. (His Charleston debacle a classic example)

The democrats made GAINS in the 2018 elections and that was after tRump declared the mid-terms a referendum on him... :shock:

What the democrats did was push over 200 bills to the Senate but Moscow Mitch, the self described 'Grim Reaper' has refused to allow a simple up or down vote.... :roll:

The Trump cult is real.
It's very easy to find evidence it exists here on DP.

I doubt that everyone who supports Trump is a cult member.
I think there are some folks who merely hold their noses and support Trump.

But there is indeed a Trump cult.
One easy identifier is the belief that Trump is an honest politician.
First off, believing in something as wacky as an honest politician is a sign that something could be amiss.
Second, believing the conman trump IS that honest politician is a sure sign that someone critical thinking skills have been sidelined for at least this issue.


Gauge your reaction to this simple question:
"Does Trump lie?"

If you have difficulty giving a simple, "Yes," then you may be affected by cult symptoms.
e.g.
  • If you believe Trump is simply telling the truth all the time
  • If you believe Trump is pointing to some "deeper Truth" with his lies
  • If you feel you need to rationalize the lying when you answer the question
  • etc.

Good post, except that I think there are honest politicians, Bernie leading. But good call that thinking trump is, is an indication of brainwashing.

That Russian "procedure" has worked well in Ukraine, where pro-Russian military groups in Crimea quickly took over the govt and then two pro-Russian areas of eastern Ukraine. All by invitation from then President Yanukovych, who was later found guilty of treason by Ukraine after fleeing to Russia by invitation from Trump buddy Putin.
