Lynching soon to be a Federal Crime

Congress makes lynching a federal crime, 65 years after Emmett Till

Both the Senate and House have passed legislation that will make lynching a Federal crime. President Trump is expected to sign the bill. I hope he does sign this bill it is way past time for this law.

How far will partisan beliefs go, will those who think Trump can so no right support his signing this law or be agianst it simply because Trump is for it?

You make it sound like it was legal today to just round up some poor slob and hang his ass just for the hell of it. I kinda doubt it.

I would be interested in their reasons for a NO vote.

Its a meaningless, big apology hug for lynching's in the past. I know things are slow for Congress until they come up with the next impeachment theory but isn't there something more important than their need to virtue signal to busy themselves with?

Given all the school shootings, we should totally outlaw shooting someone on a school campus.

How about anywhere. "Murder by shooting" is henceforth a federal hate crime. Stop all the hate.

Even better, both "Murder by shot in face" and "Murder by knife stab in heart" should be outlawed.

The article stated,

The passage of this bill will send a strong and clear message to the nation that we will not tolerate this bigotry. "

We needed an anti lynching bill to make it a federal crime to murder someone or to state we won't tolerate lynching?

Got to be a historical thing, right.

Probably because they foolishly believe what the Constitution says and criminal laws should fall within the jurisdiction of state government UNLESS it is a crime specifically against the federal government, against the United States or involving borders.

I don't see this changing anything as all it does is declare it is a hate crime. It already was a hate crime if for racial reasons. How is it less of a hate crime if killed by being dragged being a pickup truck or shot in the head because of race?

How racist is it that they left tar and feathering black people still legal? They didn't even outlaw castrating young black men to protect white women!

I don't get it, do we need to a law that say murder by firearm is illegal or can we just make murder illegal?
Same with lynching, lynching is just a form of physical abuse and physical harm. Assault and battery would cover all lynching's as well as the add on unlawful restraint and kidnapping. So why the need to call it out by name.

Good points - totes racist.

Virtue signalers have so much virtue, no amount of signaling is too much.
