Sanders was quoting from a book called "The Cancer Biopathy", which among other things suggested that stress caused from lack of sexual gratification can lead to increased chances of cancer. It was a fairly commonplace idea floating around in the 60s, but it never gained any widespread medical support, and was dismissed by the medical community.

It's about as silly as thinking wind turbines can cause cancer.

When he was citing those studies, did he promote those studies because he believed them or did he consider them fraudulent?

At the time he may very well have believed them. They were fairly popular around that time period, and we don't have the ability to instantly shoot down medical mistakes like we do now.

Or it may have been satire. He wrote several articles where he wrote in language meant to be explicit as a satire. I would honestly not know for sure.
