Yeah, I get it, Bernie's a "socialist" and repubs are going to paint him as commie pinko who goose-steps to the Soviet National anthem.

See, what repubs fail to realize is that, unlike republicans, dems and liberals and left leaning independents are not stupid to swallow that kind of right wing propaganda.

Bernie will excite dems like no other candidate. The mod left will hold their nose and vote for him, anyway. The reverse is much less true. That is why Bernie is the one to beat Trump, he will garner more votes overall.

If Bernie remains the front runner and there is a brokered convention, and the party elites pick a moderate, then Trump has a chance.

But not with Bernie, he will crush Trump.

You want Bernie to be dem's nominee?

Be careful about what you ask for.

it's not up to any of us. it's up to some average folks in some swing states. i'd be shocked if they vote for Bernie.

I think you're being overly pessimistic. Bernie's agenda will also attract lots of Republicans, especially the Conservative ones that all really hate Trump deep down inside. Most everyone sees this nation as being horribly divided and they all know that Socialism is really the only way to unite us again. Remember, nothing says "unity" quite like when everyone is fighting for a sip off the same Socialist teat.

So much hypothetical in your post.
Revisit after the primaries. Let's see how many red states Sanders actually wins in the primaries.

My top issue is win, so Biden seemed safer. However, Sanders is fine. If he gets it, I hope that he can win. Getting Mango voted out is the top priority.

Bernie polls much better than literally everyone else in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Florida.

So true!

1. "Sanders/Abrams in 2020" could be the winning ticket. Or even "Sanders/Harris."

a. Young and not-so-young liberals would turn out in massive numbers.
b. Women would turn out in massive numbers.
c. African Americans would turn out in really massive numbers (as in 2008).
d. All the Trump haters (who will include some unauthorized immigrants) will turn out in really, really massive numbers.

I hope that President Trump is reelected, but as an impartial observer, I agree that it ain't going to be easy!

Hmmm...No. I disagree.

First of all, only the hardcore NeverTrump sliver of Republicans would ever vote Democrat simply because they hate Trump. Most especially not if the candidate was a self-declared "Social Democrat" (i.e. communist/socialist wolf in sheep's-clothing).

Then there are those centrist Democrats who champion the ideals of Democracy, Liberty, and free-market Capitalism. Those are the ones who are frightened by a Sanders candidacy. They might stay away from the polls or even vote Trump just to avoid a Sanders regime.

Meanwhile, IMO most Independent voters are not "socialist" or leaning to socialism. At least not those who are dealing with wage and salaried jobs already facing inflation and taxation issues with their take-home pay even after the recent tax cuts.

Many are also disenchanted with the "Social Democrat's" push for globalization and unlimited migration which would increase demand on all social welfare programs. Programs that those of us who do work would have to be taxed to pay for.

We also have all those examples of failed socialist efforts around the world. This despite Sanders' claims that he wants what "Scandinavians" have. People don't seem to be noting that prior to the "mass immigration" over the last decade or so, Scandinavian countries were pretty homogeneous. That means they were able to work within a modified form of social-welfare because culturally they had certain mores and ideals which argued against making oneself a drain on society.

If anyone looks at Sweden (for example) now? I'd say you'd see a very unhappy populace dealing with a growing problem of violence, social divisions, and drains on the economy that have negatively impacted their socio-economic norms.

Imagine that happening here as tens of millions of migrants seeking free this and that swarm OUR nation from all parts of the world if the Social-Democrats (nee "Socialists in sheep's-clothing") get their way.

And Hillary was going to win.

Hillary ran a piss-poor campaign under the belief that the DNC she bought and paid for would do the heavy-lifting for her. Bernie has, and will continude doing the exact opposite.

We can always count on Captain Adverse to spout out a useless wordfort that can be summarized to "Enact Socialism, and brown people will invade the country."

Yeah, who needs all this great economic prosperity anyway. Right? Hand it over to the socialists.

If Trump had is pick of which democrat nominee to run against out of all the nominees at the last democratic debate.

Everyone knows he'd pick Bernie.

Good luck getting seniors on board with Bernie. Higher taxes, negative changes to medicare.

the recovery from the Bush economic crash is the longest in US history. we're very lucky that Punkinhead hasn't ruined it with his idiocy, and it's a good idea to vote him out before he can seal the deal.

Just remember that Trump has wanted to face Bernie since 2016 and you need to ask yourself why that is. Not to mention that beating Trump will require a unification of the Democrat party and that will be extremely difficult when the nominee is not a Democrat. Then we have the fact that Bernie will be painted as a candidate advocating radical change in an economy where polls say people are pretty satisfied with their situation. When has this country wanted radical change? The last time was during the Great Depression. Bernie is an extremely dangerous choice at a extremely dangerous time. Also remember that Hillary "garnered" nearly 3 million more votes than Trump and still lost.

Just as I was shocked at the right who voted for Trump

Yes all the moderates are ****ting in their pants but thru will hold their nose and vote for Bernie, just like the right did for Trump.

Maybe.

Newsflash: UHC, given that all of the 50 western developed nations have it, IS NOT A RADICAL IDEA.

ACA, intially, was feared. But, once it settled in, people see what it is, and how repubs are preventing dems from improving it, now favor it.

The same will happen with M4A, once the truth about it becomes slowly realized.

A win of 3 million in presidential politics is not that much. Obama won by more than that, a lot more. She lost in the rust belt, where Bernie will be strong, where he will make many appearances, with party machinery, with rallies, etc. She lost by only 77,000 votes in those swing states.

Bernie won't.

Here's the problem. M4A will be a step down for seniors currently on Medicare and that voting bloc can implode any candidate. The simple fact is the M4A has to drastically cut spending, that means negative impacts to existing beneficiaries combined with massive new taxes.

I hope you are right and there is not a good reason that Trump wants Bernie as the nominee. Could there be something hiding in Bernie's past that will shoot him down? I fear that Trump knows something we do not. He's sleazy like that. You do know that Republicans are being told to vote for him in S. Carolina.? I do know the Russian trolls will have a wealth of historic and damaging info from the soviet archives on Bernie. That worries me too. I just don't think this is the time to shoot the moon with Bernie. The stakes are too high. We don't want another Mondale do we? Hopefully Sanders will pivot to the middle at least if he is nominated.

What about just admitting there will be no MFA under Bernie because it will not pass Congress with 60 votes. We will upscale the ACA with the Public option and shoot for MFA in the future. That will be a tough enough nut to crack.

RCP's strength is that it averages all the polls.

Thing is, there is no up to date poll of an "average" of the general election predictions. Your poll is not an averaged poll, it is only one, so it's not clear in real clear poltics, on this one.
