Can Sanders move to the center?

Once he gets the nomination which I think he will, can he move to the center like many candidates of the past have done and seriously Trump a run for his money? That worries me.

Normally candidates move to the center after they get the nomination. One obvious exception is Trump, and I suspect Bernie may be another exception.

He won't get the nomination but of he did it would be no problem for him. He has voted with the establishment for 30 years. He does his big protests votes when it doesn't matter but he has never once been the deciding vote killing a piece of democratic supported legislation nor in passing a republican supported piece of legislation.

He hasn't been part of the ESTABLISHMENT for 30 yrs.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bernard Sanders (born September 8, 1941) is an American politician who has served as the junior United States Senator from Vermont since 2007 and has been a member of the Democratic Party since 2019, and previously from 2015 to 2016. The U.S. Representative for the state's at-large congressional district from 1991 to 2007, Sanders is the longest-serving independent in U.S. congressional history.[a] He ran unsuccessfully for the 2016 Democratic nomination for president and is running again in 2020.

A progressive and self-described democratic socialist, Sanders is known for his opposition to economic inequality. On domestic policy, he broadly supports labor rights, and has supported universal and single-payer healthcare, paid parental leave, tuition-free tertiary education, and an ambitious Green New Deal to create jobs addressing climate change. On foreign policy, he broadly supports reducing military spending, pursuing more diplomacy and international cooperation, and putting greater emphasis on labor rights and environmental concerns when negotiating international trade agreements

I really don't think he'll shift much at all. He's whole thing is about creating a movement. It isn't a regular campaign.

Yeah, Sanders has a pretty fixed position on things. He's never been a weather vane.

Sanders wants to tear down the United States in a massive violent revolution to turn American society into the chaos of a full economic collapse and social dystopia that he could cause as president. Kill off 10 or 20 million Americans and imprison twice that many and he can turn the USA into Cuba with himself as the all powerful Castro. That is his view of the perfect system of government as the stand-alone cult leader.

Link? Or personal BS?

How will Bernie move to the center?

Will he start cancelling some of his programs? No free money to pay off student loans?

What is free money?
Other than printing more of our $$$$.

But Bernie supports corrupt trade "deals" Bernie wouldn't be tough on China and he would encourage even more outsourcing.

I think you don't really know Sanders at all. And make stuff up.

Believing greater emphasis is needed on labor rights and environmental concerns when negotiating international trade agreements, Sanders voted against and has long spoken against NAFTA, CAFTA, and PNTR with China.

They are establishment. Bernie is establishment--you know, the thing you are trying to deny.

That's true, but it all depends. Is Trump hated enough to make the very left of center candidate appealing to the moderate Dem and possibly the independent voters? It is a gamble, and Bernie has to decide what is more important, staying true to his convictions or give a little to win the election.
The problem is that if he gives an inch Trump will swarm him on that point and attack his consistency which is his most valuable trait. He is better off continuing to focus on expanding who votes in an election than playing to suburban republicans. They can decide if he is worth their vote or not.

LOL.
I doubt you know what establishment is.
Especially if you think Sanders is establishment.

You've not established you know what 30 yrs is.
Even though I gave you a link to Sanders Wiki.

Bernie is a socialist, a hard core socialist. Doesn't matter what he calls it but he is a firm believer and he isn't going toward middle ground. If you see him doing it he is playing you and the rest of the democrats for bigger fools than he already has.

Sanders is an ideologue, he is incapable of governance on a wider scale. The population of Vermont is only 600k and it is about 95% non-hispanic white people. Sanders would get eaten alive if he tried to administrate more than his little odd ball playground state. The appeal of someone like Sanders is with people who want a free lunch. People who know they need to work for lunch will not for him. If Sanders and the socialists steal the Democratic party and Sander is nominated, it will be the worst defeat the Democrats will experience since George McGovern in '72. Sanders would win Vermont and the District of Columbia... maybe Hawaii, but that would be about it.

I'm not a democrat, not anymore, not after with what they have tried to do to Trump. I think all my threads on here prove that.

I see a difference between Trump's populism and Bernie's populism too, Trump talked about the unfair trade deals over the years, Bernie talks about free stuff for all. They may both be populists, but they are different types.

There is a difference. Trump populism is lies and Bernie's isn't. It's pretty simple.

Your optimism for Sanders will only result in disappointment. IF he makes to the general election he will lose. Odds are that the democrat establishment won't even allow him to get that far. All the democrat party wanted from Sanders was his voter registration component. After that they want him out of the way.

Just today Sanders was congratulating Fidel Castro and the Cuban revolution. This NUT will never make it to the white house. You progressive idealists are underestimating the power of the swamp.

Old view: move to the center to win (for either side)! This was a comment Nixon made as I recall, 'run to the right in the primary, and the center in the general'.

A bit more updated view: in a time of plutocracy, run faux populism (Republicans, Bill Clinton, Obama) or real populism (Bernie) to win. Bernie isn't running against a 'centrist', he's running against the most corrupt president in history, who has been exposed as a right-wing fraud lying about his faux populism. Bernie needs to bring Democrats out more than he needs to move to the center.

Doing one may require the other. Just saying.

A better question is, How many will be "Fooled" by him if he does?
