During the 3 years that Trump has been in office, many things have occurred that have been catalytic in this presidency. In addition, there have been thousands of discussions on the board about the pros and cons of Trump and of the Democrats.

I am interested to know if any opinions have changed during this period of time. Has Trump's actions or arguments for or against Trump turned you on or turned you off to the Republican party and the same question regarding the Democrats.

I would say I take political parties a lot more seriously now and am more willing to work with a party than just pursue my own individual ideals. Some of something is better than all of nothing.

Only 1 person (other than myself) has voted in the poll. This poll will not show who votes for what, meaning everyone should vote so we can see how Trump's actions and all the time spent on this debate board have worked out.

You don't need to comment. Just vote!

My opinion of Republicans is about the same. They were weasels afraid to back Trump early on, and they only do so today because political necessity dictates it. I hate the damn Democrats more than ever because they have shown they will stop at nothing, legal or illegal, to take down this great man. My opinion of Trump has skyrocketed in the past three years. And to think I disliked him as recently as 2016. I was wrong about him. He's truly a great man and a great president.

I used to believe that of the two major criminal parties, the Democrats were SLIGHTLY less criminal.

Now I regard the Democrats as significantly worse, and a genuine danger to the country & world.

Mission accomplished, Democrats!

I never thought I would see the democrats gridlock over principle and default to beating on the president, 24/7. I guess the magic cocktail of Schiff and Pelosi was able to dull the commonsense of the democrats.

Now they are marching off a cliff into irrelevance. They should be all in on Trumps economy, and selling a positive message where they can, but no. That might give the other team a win.

We were better off politically before the internet. The country requires two healthy political parties to work right.

Commenting is important, as we like to explain our votes. Don't undersell that.

Thanks for the response and the honesty of your thoughts. My suggestion to you though, it to go to a doctor to get your common sense working intelligently again.

... Republicans ... were weasels afraid to back Trump early on ... I disliked [Trump] as recently as 2016

So you just admitted that Republicans were "weasels" in 2016 because they shared your opinion of Trump in 2016.

To the OP, Republicans have gone much lower than I could have ever imagined, so yes on Republicans.

My disgust with republicans has risen exponentially

The Democrats have gone so far left over the past 30 years they are in full Totalitarian Socialist territory. in 2016 they nominated a deplorable candidate who, literally, bought her nomination. My opinion of the DNC remains the same; they are still a massive cluster f***.

The Republicans continue to disappoint me. They are certainly not the party of Goldwater and Reagan conservatism. They have put out the lights that made America a "beacon of hope". They've tarnished Reagan's "shining city on a hill". Now they are the Party of Trump lock, stock and barrel. I had hoped they'd stand against Trump's excesses instead of just bending over and letting Trump have his way with them. The Republican party has proved to consist of spineless cowards who have turned their backs on their oaths, their duty and our country in order to protect their own jobs. For these reasons I selected changing my opinion of Republicans.

Thanks for the comment. I would not go as far as you did in criticizing the Democratic party but you certainly are not totally wrong in your evaluation of them.

Unfortunately for all of us, is that the choices available are often bad and worse. Good choices seem to be the exception nowadays. There is nothing we can do at this time unless we all get together to get a third party in power.

As such, I personally would lean towards the party that has its interest in most of American people (Democrats) than a party that has the interest of the few and rich (Republicans). I would rather have more people enjoy some benefits than a few that don't need more benefits get them.

They both sucked 3 years ago. Both sides have become more amusing to me, and that is all. Especially the dumb ****s on here on DP that act like their party is so virtuous.

Thanks. While I, too, would lean towards "the party that has its interest in most of American people", IMO, the Democrats ain't it. They have the interest in the majority of Democrats, which is 51% of the Democrats 30% of American voters so about 15% of Americans total. Free college, free medicare for all, banning all guns, banning 36oz drinks, banning anything they don't like or feel is bad for us just makes them the worst Helicopter Moms in the country, not the best political party for the nation.

Here's a relatively short version of my political views: The Founders wrote the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution to enhance freedoms of Americans. Government exists to enhance freedoms and resolve disputes between citizen's rights. Any changes to the Constitution should be to enhance freedom, not detract from it which is why Prohibition was a step backwards. It's why any laws than ban things is wrong be it drugs, alcohol, cigarettes or guns. What is legitimate is to prevent people from harming others such as selling drugs to kids, smoking in public or firing a gun for fun in city limits.

Now, if we are talking "Which party has the best interests of Americans at heart?" I'd agree the Democrats edge out the Republicans, but that doesn't mean I agree the Democrats have our, meaning all Americans, best interests at heart because they don't. They have their best interests at heart.

I think your asterisked party are the Democrats and I will say one thing in their defense. They are trying to do good for more people than the amount of people the Republicans are trying to help, and that alone gets my vote. The rich do not need more and the poor and middle class do and the Democrats are trying to help the poor and middle class while the Republicans are continue to help the rich.

No one is perfect and that is a stark fact that is facing all of us right now, but with only 2 choices to pick from, going for the party that has a more "widespread" benefit and helps the less fortunate more is my choice.

Agreed for reasons stated in post #15.

Trump is evil, always has been, don't expect him to change.

Is that (bolded part) abnormal in human beings? In my entire life spanning 74 years, I have not yet found more than a handful of people that think of others first, before they think of themselves. It is human nature, is it not? Is Trump thinking of all Americans, or simply his 30% base?

At least the ""selfish"" Democrats will help more of those that cannot help themselves than the Republicans and if you put that on a scale, it favors the Democrats highly.

I think your problem is more ideological than down-to-earth because I want a government (as bad as it can be) to have its objective helping more people rather than less and helping those that can't help themselves rather than the rich that need NO HELP!

No, it's quite normal for a group to serve only it's members and not give a damn about anyone else. It's why the "pro-lifers" don't give a damn about children dying in cages on the border, why anti-gunners don't give a damn about 47,000 suicides every year, why some atheists are militant against theists and vice versa, etc, etc, etc.

To a large degree, half of humanity is on the backside of the IQ Bell Curve and those on the upper half are manipulating the lower half for the benefit of the upper half.

What "Republicans"? There are very few left, Mitt Romney is one, I can't thing of another that is nationally known and respected.

Trump and the Tea Party Libertarians have hi jacked what was left of the GOP and created a monster hell bent on destroying everything These United States stood for, firing anyone that won't pay homage to lord tRump and in the process dismantling the structure of Government that took generations to build.

When tRump was elected I chastened coworkers that were highly critical of him before he was even sworn in and pledged to give him a chance to be a PRESIDENT. But, within days of the election it was obvious that his petty narcissism would never allow him to BE anything but president in name only. His ego, ignorance and vanity are destroying what could have been a good if not great presidency, and taking the country with it.

So, yes, I've changed my mind toward republicans; the are very near extinction.

I loathe President Donald J. Trump more and more with each passing day and long for the day he is gone from the presidency. At the same time every day I become more and more convinced that he must be defended and his critics not allowed to remove him from the presidency.

Hope that makes sense.

Meaning that complaining and bitching about it all is useless, isn't it?

I tend to get involved when things are so bad that they can't be accepted anymore. The breaking point, so to speak. As I have often stated before, I have never voted because I never saw a candidate that would be so good or so bad as to have me go out and vote. This time though, and to show how pivotal this situation is, I have registered to vote (first time in my life) and I will vote against Trump, no matter who the Democrat candidate is.

I consider this president to be an existential threat to our Democracy, to our established way of life, to everything humans and especially this nation stands for and even to our continued existence on this earth.

too few options.

I chose No change bc I am still a R even though I have a few criticisms of Rs

but the Ds are no better than the Rs in those ways in which I criticize Rs. They are far worse in so many ways

And Rs don't think its a ok to kill children

My opinion of Ds has gotten even worse... which I did not think was possible... (fake impeachment [bc don't like how 2016 turned out]... all the LIES Adam Schiff has told.. the Chuckie Schumer lies... all the corruption... going after Trump people and wanting to throw the election... using gov agencies to do that... sickening

No, to me that does not make sense simply because our existence as a nation and even as a human race is at risk. Under those conditions, life is more important than principles, at least as far as a nation is concerned. Like the old saying in the stock market goes, you cannot win or lose if you don't have money to trade with. Trump is that kind of catalyst. With him, our very existence is at risk, meaning that the first course of business is to survive because you cannot defend principles if you are dead.
