[Live] 2020 Dem NV Primary Debate Live Thread!

For the first time in this campaign I'm thinking that the Dem candidates (except Bloomberg) aren't as weak as I assumed. Well done, folks. And yes, let's dumb the arrogant, sexist, and racist billionaire! No room for him in this party.
Pete and Warren look very good tonight.

Sanders and Biden, not so much, but the former won't take too much of a hit.

When we come back from the commercial, is Bloomberg just going to be replaced with a screen playing his ads on a loop?

:lamo

Think he can recover? We'll see, I guess ...

Bloomberg's problem is he has more money than he has charm. The smugness on display in some of his answers have done nothing to dispel the notion he's a rich jerk.

Warren thus far is a clear winner, but aside from Bloomberg getting utterly destroyed, this debate isn't going to move the needle much (unless something dramatic happens).

I'm surprised that Bloomberg, in this first appearance on a debate stage, was so weak, he had no strong answers even for the simple things like sexist behavior toward women. I never really liked him, but I expected a little enthusiasm, fire and discussion. Warren is awake for this debate, don't know what her problem was last time, she seemed preoccupied, but I still don't like her and don't think she can beat Trump.

Biden, Buttigieg and Klobuchar seem to be doing okay. Although I think Biden would have done better in '16 if he was emotionally prepared to run he'd be in the White House right now, and I think Sanders also looked stronger as a Trump opponent in '16.

I generally can't stand to listen to democrat debates because today they just try to out do each other with far lefty wack-a-doodle dribble. But tonight promises to be as entertaining as a roller derby battle with Bloomberg parachuting in to upset their little tea party with his big Scrooge McDuck purse. I can see loony Warren's eyes rolling in her head and arms flailing like she is planning to fly south for the summer. And Bernie will be angrier than an old man in a deli sending back a bowl of cold soup.

Well worth the price of admission. Hope to see a lot of laughs.

I am watching the series finale of Criminal Minds (similar to the DNC debate) but I caught a great line from Mayor Pete

Bernie wants to burn down the party and Mini-Mike wants to buy it out

You know what is bad about this great debate? The three people I thought should drop out, Biden, Warren, and Buttigieg, are resuscitating. This will result in a long and bruising primary season with no majority, and a brokered convention that will divide the party. Advantage Trump.

I don't think Biden or Buttigieg have looked especially great, even moreso when compared with Warren.

Here is how I would rank it thus far.

1. Warren - Far and away
2. Sanders
3. Buttigieg
4. Biden
5. Klouchar - brutal
6. Bloomberg - Brutal to the infinite power

On Amy forgetting the name of the Mexican president, Pete should have just said "it's OK to have a temporary lapse and forget a name; what I didn't like is your excuse that this is not Jeopardy. That is demeaning to Mexico and not presidential."

Period, full stop.

The way he piled up on her, he looked petty and mean. Not a good look. He kind of undid all the good performance he was having.

So far, Warren has been the best.

You realize this just means he will double spending to stay competitive...

Youre probably right but somewhere in the back of his mind he has to know that the $400 million he spent has just been flushed down the toilet

Question:

When watching a dog and pony show do you set your attention more on the dogs, or on the ponies?

What a circus this is. Bring in the clown car.

We should have seen this coming.

Buttigieg is a solid performer. He's well prepared and has a sharp wit. It's pretty clear he articulates his ideas well, and can come back from attacks pretty quickly.

I think youre right. Warren is on fire.

Agreed on Warren, simply brilliant. Finally coming out as what she is: highly intelligent and well prepared. Her weakness is that she doesn't know how to show it, how to campaign, but today she seems to have finally found in herself how to express herself for the people.

If Warren had had similar performances from the beginning she would be leading this race.

Agree, hopefully he'll use his money to support the Democratic nominee as he suggested, that would be the best thing he could do. I think Steyer had more passion than Bloomberg and probably more likeable.

Agreed.

And the great on the rise Bloomberg took a hit.

We should have seen this coming.

Seen what coming? Bloomberg getting spanked? I think most people paying attention to his skeleton riddled history would have guessed him at least getting bloodied if not beaten in this debate; I certainly did.

Agreed.

America is currently the #1 producer of oil in the world at the moment. And most of that comes from fracking.

Banning fracking will hurt the economy.

Well exactly; if she was right, her base wouldn't have deemed her wrong given its partial exodus to Sanders at that time.

The prevailing take on the left at the time was that:

A: Her stated funding plan per the Head Tax would notably encourage contract work over employment.

and

B: She was waffling with a timeline and interim public option plan such that her proposed transition to MFA would be difficult if not practically impossible, and underlined her lack of commitment to it.

No question that the way Liz tried to reconcile was ham-handed. i remember that particular debate and Liz simply did not handle that well either in the debate nor in her public comments regarding Medicare for All just before that debate.

I have said for awhile, that Liz's real place is in government, not in politics. A dem needs to win in 2020 and get that lady into their cabinet as a cabinet secretary somewhere. She is doing well tonight. But her ability to make a real ugly political cockup is epic.

She would run rings around Idiot DeVos at Education for example. Would not put her at Treasury though she is capable. Business and Corporate interests would consider that a declaration of war.

I think warren might get a slight bounce. Maybe Buttigieg, too.

OK...never mind my earlier comments...they should just go back to attacking each other. Their responses to policy questions are worse. Joe touts a failing solar farm that he wants to harness and send out to even MORE homes...but it only supports 60k homes and there are 138k homes in the area it is feeding so he is just using local talking points and talking out of his ass. Bloomberg just spewed anti Trump rhetoric. Liz says Im going to stop all drilling and mining...except we'll make a difference if necessary. Bernie channels Greta, but cant answer the factual questions about HOW to actual do what they are claiming they want to do.

Go back to attacking each other. Thats...sad.
