[Live] 2020 Dem NV Primary Debate Live Thread!

Watching what’s happening to Bloomberg. I thought carpet bombing against civilian populations was banned by the Geneva Convention?

Silly me, I was thinking rather of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Can we actually use small tactical nuclear devices in plain Las Vegas?

Bloomberg is toast.

Yeah, he skipped too many early debates. He doesn't look Trump-ready from what I've seen so far.

And damn, Mayor Pete is freakin' good!

Except for Bloomy, they have all come out swingin' which finally gives us a chance to see who is good at it. Pete is pretty good at it. Biden has found his sea legs though I don't know where he hid them for so long. Liz is still a little too chippy for her own good but it sure beats her blundering all over the stage which she has done before in this format.

The funny thing about the Bernie/Liz battle over Medicare for all is that she is right. Trying to reconcile her position was the right thing to do. You just cannot slide right into Medicare for all and it does not matter what the UK has or what Canada has or what anybody else has. What matters is what we have and what we can realistically do to improve it. This is not suddenly a sprint no matter how much Bernie wants to argue the necessity for a sprint. ITS A MARATHON. That said, look at how much making the effort to reconcile her position hurt Liz's campaign.

This is a great debate, though. This is what they need. For each other as individuals, and as a group.

This attack on Klobuchar over forgetting AMLO's name is pretty stupid.

Buttigieg lost points there, and Warren earned points there.

Stupid move by Buttigieg. He rattled Amy but brilliant Liz came to the rescue.

We can strike his name out as the nominee now.

I think voters are more sophisticated than that. Being a mayor and a businessman is complicated. The only thing I fault him for is trying to appease these people. He should take a page from Trump and say, yeah, I did it, so what?

That won't work with Democrats, especially those who vote in the primaries. I think you're overestimating them.

This may be the best political debate I have seen. Real passion. Real differences.

People aren't pulling punches.

Well exactly; if she was right, her base wouldn't have deemed her wrong given its partial exodus to Sanders at that time.

The prevailing take on the left at the time was that:

A: Her stated funding plan per the Head Tax would notably encourage contract work over employment.

and

B: She was waffling with a timeline and interim public option plan such that her proposed transition to MFA would be difficult if not practically impossible, and underlined her lack of commitment to it.

For the first time in this campaign I'm thinking that the Dem candidates (except Bloomberg) aren't as weak as I assumed. Well done, folks. And yes, let's dumb the arrogant, sexist, and racist billionaire! No room for him in this party.

Again, Amy was the one that went after him for inexperience, so it was fair game to point out how she clearly didn't know the Mexican presidents name.

But yes, we will see.
His trouble is he went "corporate speak", instead of politician.

Bloomberg, "that's it, I'm running third party. Say hello to four more years of Trump."

I wasn't expecting multiple campaigns to end tonight, but Bloomberg and Klobuchar have looked very bad.

It's been really good. Everybody already knows what they want to talk about so the moderators can't even mess it up.

Not really.

She called out Pete for inexperience, so it's fair game.

A question about policy with Mexico would have been more revealing than forgetting a name. You can be experienced and make the same mistake. Moderators should be asking questions that are more probing on policy in my opinion.

That's what I'm thinking. This guy is used to people doing what he says when he says it. He's got to be really fuming right now.
Yes, because his stature not just in public, but with his shareholders and employees just took a huge hit. He's a corporate chieftain, and has to project a proper image.

Ima just say it and this has nothing really to do with the candidates except they allow it. That debate is ****ing EMBARRASSING. How vapid. The questions asked and the moderators are treating them like a bunch of 13-14 year olds at a Jr high. There is no discussion of substance anda policy and program....just a bunch of childish embarrassing attacks. The most impressive thing any one of those candidates could do is say "**** this" and walk off the stage.

Thanks for your opinion. Now turn your channel to Bonanza reruns. You clearly are not getting much out of this debate.

You know what is bad about this great debate? The three people I thought should drop out, Biden, Warren, and Buttigieg, are resuscitating. This will result in a long and bruising primary season with no majority, and a brokered convention that will divide the party. Advantage Trump.
