trump going insane - or insanely corrupt - abusing pardon power

Obama sure did pardon a lot of cocaine and heroin traffickers.....

No, he's bailing out his buddies, covering his own fat orange @$$, and he knows it. Yes, he probably sees it as 'fair' but not really righting any genuine wrongs; rather like the tax-dodging, he thinks he can get away with it because he's 'smart'. In reality, it's just that the Senate refuses to hold him to account because it's afraid of his voters.

I have to wonder how many of these pardons are paybacks for people who he owes money or are quid-pro-quo for other personal gain, such as donations to his reelection slush fund?

I heard Trump, after costing himself all that money, spent some time in a monastery as well doing penance for his sins — ooops! forgot, Trump doesn’t acknowledge having sinned. Must have thought it would make a fine resort hotel.

I am too wasted for this place, this Bug Out Of China is likely to get me, so I am naturally living my best life now.

See me in that other place,,,the secret place.....I will take care of your needs...

From early in his time in office, trump has shown he will abuse the pardon power to pardon famous convictions who especially deserve the convictions; including betraying his promise to be against 'immunity for the elites' and corruption.

His first pardon was the infamous Joe Arpaio, a corrupt Sheriff and national right-wing darling.

His third was the infamous Scooter Libby, who had already wrongly avoided jail with a commutation by Bush, for lying about his role in exposing a CIA officer as political punishment to her husband, who had exposed Bush lying about an argument in the Iraq war.

His fifth was the infamous right-wing propagandist Dinesh D'Souza, one of whose propaganda pieces attacked Hillary in the campaign.

His sixth and seventh were of the far-right militants who had made national news seizing a federal building, convicted of arson.

His eighth was of a soldier who had murdered an Iraqi man in US custody.

November 15, he pardoned two more soldiers who had murdered Afghan people. Etc.

But now, the 'unleashed' trump has gone nuts with the corrupt pardons.

Some of the most famous, justified convictions are being commuted (for the Democrat) and pardoned (for the Republicans).

Remember the governor who abused his power to appoint a Senator by selling it, Rob Blagojevich? Can't have politicians punished for THAT, trump must think - commuted, over the objection of Illinois Republicans.

The most infamous Wall Street 'junk bond' conviction, Michael Milken? Pardoned.

Rudy's terrible corrupt former police chief and partner in crime, who Bush had crazily appointed to head the new Department of Homeland Security, before he was disgraced and convicted, Bernie Kerik? Pardonedd.

Even the former owner of the San Francisco 49'ers.

CNN has a good article discussing the apparent reasons behind some of the more well-known recipients:

Here's the secret to getting a Trump presidential pardon - CNNPolitics

We get it, you don't like the President or his policies. No need to be so dramatic about it, day in and day out.

CNN comments:

In the last few days, in a new activation of always implied presidential powers, Trump has effectively assumed the authority to undo complex prosecutions, ignore jury decisions and usurp government prosecutors who put years into high-profile cases.

In the process, he's sent a message that convicts with associates who are close to the President politically -- or who can get on Fox News, will enjoy a more lenient form of justice.

Kerik for example, is a protege of Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani — who was at the center of the effort to get dirt from Ukraine on Trump's opponents that led to his impeachment.

Blagojevich's wife has often taken to the President's favorite conservative news network to plead his case. And the White House noted in a statement that Milkin's philanthropy had led conservative heroes like Giuliani, Sheldon Adelson, and House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy to support calls for a pardon.

Trump's recent interventions in the legal process also opened a window into the President's personal morality and the principles which govern his own attitudes to power.

Kerik, Blagojevich and Milken were all convicted of offenses that the President has been accused of committing by his enemies. Their cases involved a blizzard of abuses of power, betraying public trust, soliciting quid pro quo, fogging tax records and lying to investigators.

It is almost as if Trump is arguing implicitly that such corruption should not be criminal at all, but is the normal behavior of powerful men — such as himself.

It was also notable that Trump specifically noted that Blagojevich was put behind bars by US Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald, a star legal contemporary of Trump's nemesis, fired former FBI Director James Comey. Fitzgerald prosecuted Libby as well and also joined Comey's legal team in 2017. That the President appears to be taking aim at those associations seems unlikely to be a coincidence.

Trump's swipe also represented an escalation of his war on government prosecutors in general -- four of whom walked off the Stone case after the Justice Department capitulated to his wishes last week.

The President has spent years building a conceit that the instruments of impartial justice are in fact themselves corrupt and that their investigations into his own and his associates' transgressions are part of a deep state plot to overthrow him.

It would surprise no one in Washington if, having prepared the public for aggressive interventions in the legal system, if the President turns to cases that reflect on him directly, like those against Stone, jailed former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and disgraced former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

It's expected this is to 'soften up' the news and public for the reaciton when he pardons criminals who have committed crimes for him, like Roger Stone, who trump IMO lies when he says he has not thought about giving a pardon.

Well he's so poor at hiding stuff we'll know in a few weeks at most.

The corruption doesn't need any additional payment; it's pardoning who either did crimes similar to him, or doing favors for allies.

Trumps argument is that the justice system is corrupt (it is) and thus those who violate the dictates of DeepState/The Swamp/The Uniparty/The Failed Intelligentsia are treated more harshly than are those who sing the songs they are told to sing. Trump sees himself of righting the scales a bit, he sees himself as promoting fairness, promoting justice.

Get real. Trump's argument is that all this crap he likes to do should not be a crime.

Now, NOW suddenly Barr appears to be considering resigning. Really Bill...now you suddenly figure out you are working for a looney tunes crook living rent free in the WH? NOW you finally start figuring it out? TOO LATE BILL. Nothing you do will remove the stain from you for running interference for and doing the bidding of his whack in the WH.

Did Obama pardon a WHOLE LOT of cocaine and heroin dealers in his 8 years? Are you trying to introduce a bull**** source to cover for the fact that Obama pardoned a whole lot of cocaine and heroin dealers in his 8 years/ Did you miss the complete list of people that Obama pardoned over the course of his 8 years or did you think posting some bull**** SNOPES article was going to put frosting on that turd brownie you are swallowing for the man?

Did you read your link? It says Obama released 1715 criminals from prison during his term, more than any other president in history. Neither you nor any other liberal said a word about that. Trump commutes the sentence of one guy and you, dutifully, have a meltdown. It would sure be nice if one of you liberals would think for yourself once in a while rather than following the heard. Every. Single. Time.

I am real....I am a Truth Teller....I pursue Truth and I speak Truth to the best of my abiity.

More should make the attempt.

And thereby paving the way for future pardons or encouraging public tolerance of such crimes as he is likely to be accused of.

Exactly. A former prosecutor called it 'a predator grooming his victims', with the outrageous pardons, normalizing them so the reaction is lessened when the pardons of his minions like Roger Stone are done. That's the behavior of the sociopath trump is.
