Trump Is Failing His Dictatorship Test

Notice how none of our Republicans even attempted to falsify your OP? The sad truth is they just don't care, and that's why we're in the mess we're in.

Some time it's better to let spoiled brats cry themselves out.

Really? Thats one convenient memory you have there, Because most educated people remember
Obama tapping the phones of conservative reporters and raiding their homes for information
Weaponizing the IRS exclusively against conservative businesses
Having the Senate change the vote requirement to confirm a SCOTUS from 60 to 50 to stack the court
Creating a fake dossier against a political opponent to get FISA warrants to spy on their campaign
And for the first time in history, having a former president running an organization against a sitting president.

But I am sure you have no knowledge of any of this. You never do. It's that convenient memory you love to work from.

People who live in glass houses should ring a bell, but it won't.

No, educated people know no such thing.

And no, the IRS was not weaponized. This is a long running right wing lie, one that repeated GOP investigation was unable to substantiate.

Nobody cares about the idiotic right wing talk radio grievances that folks like you keep serving up in a vein attempt to avoid the topic at hand.

Well, I wouldn't put it like that. I'm saying that all recent presidents have been carrying the EO thing way too far. Can you climb off your anti-Trump soap box just for one minute to like this post? By the way, Obama and his deep state were about as bad as Trump.

I don't argue your point on Obama. I bitched loudly about his use of EOs and drone bombing and sitting around, doing nothing for the economy while bailing out the banks and Wall Street. I think Trump has carried it further than anyone before, though. Obama may be about as bad as Trump, but Trump still comes in worse.

I'm tired of us finding a new bottom of the barrel each an every election cycle. When the hell can we have some cream instead?

Cream meaning Bernie socialism? Steal from the rich and give to the poor? You guys have cute slogans but every time you try stealing from the rich it doesn't work. That's what I don't like about the left. They have all of these sound good, feel good ideas that just don't work. They try them and they don't work. When what they try doesn't work then they want to do more of it because they believe the reason it didn't work is only because they didn't do enough of it. It's a gambling problem. You gamble. You lose. You gamble again. You lose again. If you keep on gambling and doubling your bet surely at some point in the future you will either win or get your money back. It's an addiction that you guys can't kick.

I ain't voting for Bernie. I fear, however, that Bernie may be an overreaction to Trump. I think that because so many people carried water for Trump, excused everything he has done, defended his abuses of power and gleefully partook in Trump's trolling, that Sanders becomes a real possibility. It will suck, for sure, to be under Sanders. But it's a reaction, and all the Trumpeteers have no one else to blame but themselves.

LOL. It is the left's fault that Trump is president in the first place. They have no one else to blame but themselves. It is TRUMP who is the overreaction to the left's insane PC SJW crap. And, if the left aren't careful, they will have Trump for another four years.

OH REALLY? :lamo

In a legal settlement that still awaits a federal judge's approval, the IRS "expresses its sincere apology" for mistreating a conservative organization called Linchpins of Liberty — along with 40 other conservative groups — in their applications for tax-exempt status.

And in a second case, NorCal Tea Party Patriots and 427 other groups suing the IRS also reached a "substantial financial settlement" with the government.

Just wow dude. So yeah, the educated knows this. Thanks for making my point

So in other words, Obama did politicize the IRS and wield it as a political weapon.

TO the point they got caught so bad, they had to make public apologizes and have paid out millions in damages. I actually watched a few of those hearings.

Some good points, but Obama was a VASTLY more brutal war criminal.

Trump will likely never catch up to him even in his second term.

Yeah, really. This is Session and Trump pandering to the likes of you!

The article made it clear what the IRS actually did.

“ emerged that liberal groups had been targeted, too, although in smaller numbers.

As IRS Targeted Tea Party Groups, It Went After Progressives Too
The IRS stepped up its scrutiny around 2010, as applications for tax-exempt status surged. Tea Party groups were organizing, and court decisions had eased the rules for tax-exempt groups to participate in politics.

Groups sought tax-exempt status as 501(c)(3) charities, where the organization and its donors get tax write-offs, and 501(c)(4) "social welfare" organizations, where donors' contributions are not tax deductible.”

Right after the 2008 election, the IRS was flooded with applications for new “social welfare” groups. Funny though, nearly all of them sought tax exempt status as 501c4 groups instead of being under the 501c3 designation.

It seemed odd that all of a sudden hundreds of heretofore unknown right wing groups would suddenly seek tax exempt status under a normally obscure article of the tax code.

There were two clues.

First, all these applications sought tax exempt status as c4 groups, which allowed them to conceal the names of their donors for public view until they filed their tax returns. After all, the last thing the lobbyists and political operators who actually ran the Tea Party wanted was for the mob to find out that they were props for the TV camera in an astroturf campaign. They didn’t want the rubes to know that they were working for free for K street.

Since all of these groups were soldiers in the astroturf war that K Street had launched to get the Limbaughloonies back out to vote, it’s not surprising that hundreds of groups in small towns all over America suddenly all discovered the same obscure tax regulation at the same time. That was the other clue.

Of course , when an organization forms and submits its articles to the IRS, they are then allowed to conduct business as a “declared entity” until the application is approved. Having formed a couple of non profits myself (not political ones), I know that the process generally goes on for about eighteen months.

Of course, eighteen months was more than K Street needed.

Right after the 2010 mid terms, all the K Street money that had fueled the tea party promptly dried up. The mission was the 2010 mid terms. The idiots who actually paid for tri corner hats never knew they were working for the Gucci loafer crowd (they seldom do). And when the pre printed literature stopped arriving, and that group in Washington stopped paying the hosting bills for the Bugtussle Tea Party Patriots webside, the mob dispersed. The tri corner hats went on the shelf, and the crowd glued itself to their AM radios waiting for their next gimmick.

The rise and fall of the tea party is a classic case in how the “swamp” really works.

Whataboutism is just about all you have left.

Trump is now openly pardoning high profile criminals just to “prove” that he has the power.

And guy like you are trying to make excuse for it. Failing that, it’s back to deflections to Clinton and Obama.

Trump Is Failing His Dictatorship Test

After impeachment, the president has been passing most of the checkpoints on the way to authoritarianism.

The article author offers extended commentary on each of the 10 bullet points above.

The age of Generalissimo Trump is closer than you may think.

The problem Trump has to becoming a dictator is his own incompetence. If he could not be successful in making money with 3 casinos (all failed), becoming a dictator requires more brains and competence and because of that, he will fail. Thank goodness for us.

It may be. I think Trump is a reaction to the status quo that stagnated both left and right. Now, I do think that we were duped hard. Trump is the status quo, Trump is the swamp, he's just the status quo without brakes or filter. But he was a reaction, and he's been bad. And now we'll get another reaction. And if the right aren't careful, they will have 4 years of Sanders.

So now that we know it wasn't a right wing lie, heres another bit if information. It was hundreds of conservative organizations that were targeted, not progressives. How many progressive organizations would settle with the IRS? None.

IRS officials admitted to mistreating conservative organizations who sought tax-exempt status and that IRS officials covered up the misconduct and misled Congress.

Nope, Make it clear. You know nothing about any of those historical events or stop wasting my time.

You make it clear and I will be more than happy to provide you with all the information you need.

I suspect its propaganda bull****

Which I will peruse while I wonder how stupid people have to be to swallow it.

I think I know what you're gonna cite.

Propaganda, called "narrative management" these days, and it's negative impacts on our society is my hobby horse. It's why I came to this site years ago.

As to the IRS thing, are you talking about the "targetting" of conservative nonprofit applications? Because that isn't what happened. Not even close.

You mean like Democrats have been doing for three years now?

No.

But it is what y'all have been convinced of by your narrative managers.

Either you're right or you're gullible..

Ima go with the latter. Occam's Razor and all that.

But he hasn't been bad. He's only been "bad" for the left.

He's been bad for the Republic. Other than holding onto an improving economy he inherited, he hasn't really done much other than alienate allies, bankrupt farmers, screw up international diplomacy, and embarrass us on a daily basis.

Maybe you could have helped the IRS before they publicly admitted their discrimination against conservative groups was wrong and unlawful and was a direct violation of their first amendment rights just before they had to settle with over 450 conservative companies for millions.

Theres only about a few thousand web pages on it, but you thought it was propaganda huh.

The country is running better than it ever has. Like 2/3's of Americans are saying they are better off than they were three years ago.

Yes, I mean, we were coming out of a recession and the economy was improving. So obviously people are doing better now. I don't think the country is really running better at all, though. It seems to be maintaining a certain level of uncertainty and chaos that will eventually catch up to us.

It always does that, whenever we are in an expansion. The country is running better than it ever has. Foreign policy is much better. You don't hear from NK anymore. ISIS caliphate is gone. People are being beheaded every month or even at all. Americans feel better off than they ever have, including blacks. Of course the left don't want to give Trump his due. The only thing actually worse off under Trump is liberal values, PC, and SJW crap. Amen to that. Amen. Thank you Trump for burying liberalism and progressivism.
