IRS Apologizes For Aggressive Scrutiny Of Conservative Groups : NPR
Just wow dude. So yeah, the educated knows this. Thanks for making my point
Yeah, really. This is Session and Trump pandering to the likes of you!
The article made it clear what the IRS actually did.
“ emerged that liberal groups had been targeted, too, although in smaller numbers.

As IRS Targeted Tea Party Groups, It Went After Progressives Too
The IRS stepped up its scrutiny around 2010, as applications for tax-exempt status surged. Tea Party groups were organizing, and court decisions had eased the rules for tax-exempt groups to participate in politics.
Groups sought tax-exempt status as 501(c)(3) charities, where the organization and its donors get tax write-offs, and 501(c)(4) "social welfare" organizations, where donors' contributions are not tax deductible.”
Right after the 2008 election, the IRS was flooded with applications for new “social welfare” groups. Funny though, nearly all of them sought tax exempt status as 501c4 groups instead of being under the 501c3 designation.
It seemed odd that all of a sudden hundreds of heretofore unknown right wing groups would suddenly seek tax exempt status under a normally obscure article of the tax code.
There were two clues.
First, all these applications sought tax exempt status as c4 groups, which allowed them to conceal the names of their donors for public view until they filed their tax returns. After all, the last thing the lobbyists and political operators who actually ran the Tea Party wanted was for the mob to find out that they were props for the TV camera in an astroturf campaign. They didn’t want the rubes to know that they were working for free for K street.
Since all of these groups were soldiers in the astroturf war that K Street had launched to get the Limbaughloonies back out to vote, it’s not surprising that hundreds of groups in small towns all over America suddenly all discovered the same obscure tax regulation at the same time. That was the other clue.
Of course , when an organization forms and submits its articles to the IRS, they are then allowed to conduct business as a “declared entity” until the application is approved. Having formed a couple of non profits myself (not political ones), I know that the process generally goes on for about eighteen months.
Of course, eighteen months was more than K Street needed.
Right after the 2010 mid terms, all the K Street money that had fueled the tea party promptly dried up. The mission was the 2010 mid terms. The idiots who actually paid for tri corner hats never knew they were working for the Gucci loafer crowd (they seldom do). And when the pre printed literature stopped arriving, and that group in Washington stopped paying the hosting bills for the Bugtussle Tea Party Patriots webside, the mob dispersed. The tri corner hats went on the shelf, and the crowd glued itself to their AM radios waiting for their next gimmick.
The rise and fall of the tea party is a classic case in how the “swamp” really works.
