In Sexist/Racist/Dictatorial Billionaire Bloomberg, Do Democrats Embrace All They Fear In Trump?

Your bolded does indeed very much describe the Democratic Party traditionally of years past, however. Back when the Dem rank & file was filled with blue-collar working men & women, often union, many of which were Catholic. That demographic pretty much defined my old neighborhood. Men & women of Faith who believed in freedom & capitalism, sex only in marital bonds, keeping your baby, Mass on Sunday, never taking a dime of government money for fear of neighborhood scorn, and not afraid to keep a gun around the house to protect your family and to try & drop a buck come fall.

I wouldn't want the present day Dems to give-up the social wars they've won - most needed to fought. But I sure as hell would like to see the big-tent opened-up to include the old crowd they've lost much of to Reagan and now Trump. We embraced Kennedy before, and there's no reason we can't embrace Bloomberg now.

If the obliteration of your party is the goal, by all means embrace Bloomberg.

Obama was a firebomb the party dropped upon itself; Hillary an atomic; Bloomie is nuclear annihilation. (And of perhaps more than merely a party in its death throes.)

But by all means, proceed.

:hm

That may be true, but I don't know that rank & file Democrats are that ordered in their thinking.

They've been told to fear Trump, and are being herded by that baseless hysteria toward a man who may be as dangerous as - or more so than - Hillary was.

Too many are pap, exactly what my teacher Mr Mac told me to be watching for, told me that seeing so many dimwits of this rank around me meant that it was time for me to get ready of Hell on Earth.

I've long said that a way to get a horrible person elected is to run them against someone seen as worse. The second worst person in the country can get elected by people who are voting against the worst.

That's where Bloomberg comes in. Democrats want to beat trump, the most despised president ever by them which is saying a lot, so much that many are just feeling that 'phony billionaire trump won flaunting claims he had money, so let's beat him at his own game', and Bloomberg is giving them enough cover with his nice ads not to question him too much. GO GET HIM MIKE!, they feel. OUR BILLIONAIRE CAN BEAT UP YOURS!

This is quite problematic. Reagan did great harm to the country moving it to the right, able to get elected because of dissatisfaction with Carter; after Carter won largely because the country was disgusted with Republicans after Watergate. Those are 'vote against' elections and anything can happen more than usual. We got lucky with Carter, and got disaster with Reagan (many voters disagreed).

The traumatized Democratic voters seem to be looking for 'who can beat up trump' more than 'who do they really, rationally think has the best policies and leadership'. I'm looking to the campaigns to help voters sober up and see Bloomberg's flaws more and Bernie's positives more and for the president we need to get nominated, Bernie.

Who died and made you boss. Your entire thread is dishonest and everything you accused Bloomberg of are all the things Trump is. It's my right to call out dishonestly and fake news when I see it. YOURS is it.

So then don't support Bloomberg.

I see Bloomberg as a return to the older Dem Party, of more centrist values. I'm not crazy about his gun policy, but I have no problem with him being a successful capitalist. Remember, if he's the nominee we will be contrasting him to Trump, not to himself in a vacuum. Next to Trump he'll be forgiven a wealth of sins, because he still won't have anywhere near Trump's issues.

Success begets success. The first thing to do is get into office. I think Bloomberg can do that. We'll figure the rest out from there.

Bloomberg will embrace the basic principles of the democratic party. Higher taxes for rich people, pro-choice on abortion, pro-immigrant to a point, pro-union, etc.

The most famous democrat of them all was Franklin Roosevelt who was a rich guy.

Throw in gun bans!

LOL! That's funny, so so so funny. Your party is dead, stone cold dead within the realm of democracy. It died when you elected the bastard Trump.

You seem to have me confused with another person.

And your party confused with one that isn't imploding.

But feel free to support Bloomtrump; the only problem will be figuring out who to blame for yet ANOTHER self-annihilating Democrat choice.

Err, the 'Democrat base' has swung wildly to the hard left, seemingly all the way to 'left out'.
If Bernie isn't the nominee, all the Bernie Bro's wills stay home, just as they did in 2016, so I'm expecting the same result if it goes that way.

If Bernie is the nominee his crazy public policy proposals will force more voters into the voting booth, holding their noses and voting for Trump.
Yes, crazy public policy proposals, some $90 Trillion in NEW spending, approx. 4 times the total present federal budget. Where's he going to get the money for that? He's always dodging this legitimate question with platitudes of 'millionaires and billionaires fair share', but the reality is that it'll be punitive taxation on the middle class and businesses, on whom the middle class rely on for their livelihood.

Dark economic times ahead for the nation should Bernie be elected president, and other than a few ill-informed, most are realizing this, including panicking Democrats (why do you think Bloomberg is even campaigning?)

Bernie can't win, but he's still the Democrat Party's smartest choice to avoid complete self-destruction.

The Wingnut fear of Mike is strong.

I'll take your word for it, but smart Democrats won't back Bloomtrump & should fear others doing so.

He'll tear what's left of your party to pieces as well as lose to Trump.

:)

^ ^Excellent points.

Bloomberg is no danger to democracy. He's an establishment outsider, which would be an oxymoron if the populists had not hijacked the party away from the DNC. Dude, where's my party?

The fact that he is spending $250 million of his own money to try to win the Dem nomination is a no-lose for advocates of free speech. If he loses, then it puts to bed the theory that one can buy any election with enough money. And if he wins, then the Stop Citizens United - Stop Money In Politics crowd will be in the awkward position of embracing a candidate who betrayed them by rejecting not just small donors but any donors.

Your party is the one that has dealt a death blow to itself by giving up their powers to a dictator.

This appears to be an accurate assessment, even beyond the 2020 election.

As Obama would say, you can put lipstick on a pig...

Bloomberg represents the complete & utter betrayal of EVERYTHING the party claims to stand for, AND he can't win.

It really is Bernie or Bust this time around, and for the party itself.

The Democrat won't win this November, so it's a question of salvaging the party or sinking it.

Bloomberg = Iceberg

Extreme caution is advised moving forward.

Yeah,

"Embrace Trump - fear Bloomberg"

Go figure! :doh

I don't know about embracing Trump.

But I'll be gentle when I say "I told you so" if this party-sinking chart is followed.

I will not be voting for Bloomberg and encourage anyone who cares, either about the future of the Democratic Party or the country as a whole, not to do it either.

We can do so much better than a slightly more polite, intelligent version of the billionaire scumbag we already have in office. Vote for someone who is actually going to do something to improve your life and isn't in the race solely to ensure his taxes don't go up.

All the free speech money can buy...

I think Bloomie is first and foremost a danger to the Democrat Party, and - ironically & my central point - all that the Democrats say they fear in Trump & then some.

Bloomie = Autocrat who obliterated term limits

Bloomie = Racist, sexist pig

Bloomie = In the bag for China (vastly more dangerous than Russia)

Bloomie = Super rich white male in the *party of diversity*

The optics alone would sink him if his one man basket of deplorables history didn't.

Beware all ye Democrats!

And I WILL be saying "I told you so!" to all Democrats from November til the end of the year if they go with him.

Your party is the one that has dealt a death blow to itself by giving up their powers to a dictator.

I have no idea who you think you're responding to, but it isn't me.

I'm not a Republican & Trump isn't a dictator.

But Bloomie?

He's a cyanide capsule for the Democrat Party.

Everything the Democrats falsely fear Trump to be, Bloomie is, and then some.

AND he can't win.

But by all means, proceed.

:)

Amen.

My problem with Bloomberg's candidacy is that he didn't follow the rules the other candidates did.

He literally bought his way in after all but one of the debates had concluded. He did not qualify for the last debate because (as he well knew) he could not meet the requirements.

Thus he did not have to go through an initial "vetting process," allowing challenges to his positions.

He simply waited, then threw his hat into the ring just prior to the primaries, using his money to flood the airwaves (and cable-waves) with political advertising.

So we are getting "snippits" of his positions here and there, cobbled together IMHO by hired advertising public relations advisors. People who reviewed what moved Democrats the most after each of the debates in order to give him the most appealing "platform."

Now he is, despite coming in "last minute," the Democrats rising star. The Billionaire who can beat Trump.

Another member of the "elite" to beat an opposing member of the "elite."

IMO the epitome of partisan hypocrisy...is how I see it.

Honestly it was a good strategy for him to do so. Let the others slug it out on stage and on the issues.
not say anything yourself but just flood the TV's with how you are the best guy.

it then takes the media who by some are refusing to actually dig into any of trumps opponents a clear line of bias.

Bloomie's biggest problem media-wise?

He has 0 personality.

If he's the nominee...
