But I really doubt that libertarian ideas correlate with low IQ.

Keep in mind that almost all academic researchers are liberal/progressive. So this kind of research is almost guaranteed to be slanted.

Low iq (largely a made up thing, but whatever) is stupid. Slow learning, limited scope and depth. Dumb is an inability to express. A smart person lacking education is dumb.

who doesn't have 2-3 cousins what have either filed for bankruptcy, cheated on their wives/girlfriends, cheated on their tax returns, is a fake christian or never went to college AND is a huge Trump fan?

You are correct, depending how you define "intelligence." It is acquired knowledge - where education is a factor? Insight - which may or may not be education related? IQ - which measures logic but not creativity? Is it creativity - which may not indicate intelligence etc.

What measure of intelligence was used for the study? Do we even know? Do we know how they defined levels of "intelligence?" Do we even know how they defined "conservative?"

Me. I have no cousins, nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, parents, grandparents that I know of. I do know some unemployed druggies and alcoholics that share your hatred of Trump.l

The real statement of your message is that haters gotta hate - and make up anything for their hate. Many use hate to try to find superiority to cover up their severe inferiority.

"Education" is a subjective term as is "intelligence." Most sevants are the smartest and dumbest people in the world. Measuring the broad spectrum of what defines intelligence in humans is virtually impossible, although IQ is one measurement.

Since it's an improper use of the word 'intelligence,' why would we speculate that they chose to do research and use it improperly? Education is NOT intelligence...they arent synonyms.

To all the lefties that think Conservatives have a "low IQ", may I direct you to an author by the name of Burton W. Folsom Jr. He has a series of books that I recommend you check out.

He has a number of books that may open your minds. He is a historian and for the most part focuses on the era of FDR. Reading one of his books is a huge lesson for the learning. If you are one that thinks FDR was a big hero to our country you will not like what Folsom has to say. If you are someone wondering how we go so far off the tracks of what the Founders intended you will love them.

A lot of FDR's agenda got by the public,

with controlling the media. The second to the last time I was in NYC was on a business trip and I purchased an addition of all the Frontpages that came out of the NYT's during the last century up to the 90's from a bookstore on the corner directly across from Carnegie Hall. Not one of the frontpages from the NYT told of the persecution and killing of European Jews leading up to and during WWII. True story.Why? because FDR told the newspapers and radio to tamp down the stories. hmmmmm.

Oddly, Trump himself checks almost all those boxes.

That is, he DID go to college.

Not sure if he learned anything there. I recall reading a comment of one of his instructors who said they remembered Trump as the student who acted like he knew everything already.

Imagine that.

Byrd started as a Dem at a time when Dems from his state and others were conservatives. He then had a change of heart and actually apologized plenty for his youthful stupidity long before Dems and Republicans in the South switched Parties. Some Republicans/antiDems now only bring up his past associated when they try to smear Democrats, not because they know anything else about Byrd or even show any knowledge of the difference between political Party and ideology.

I know the article is supposed to be about stupid white people voting Trump, but allow me to spoil the party. If blacks have a lower IQ on average than whites, perhaps this is why blacks are more 'socially conservative' when it comes to attitudes about homosexuality?

Side point: People can't improve their IQ. They can only maximize their education. That said, people can improve their "IQ test scores", but that's a a flaw in measuring IQ. FWIW, there are several types of intelligence. We've all seen people who were very, very smart in some things but a complete dumbass in others.

Agreed that people who are ignorant tend to rely upon emotion ("fear, emotion, and letting other people tell them what to do.") rather than logic. Neither political side has a monopoly on putting emotion over logic, but, as the OP points out, studies indicate that ignorant or low IQ people are not "forward thinkers" and tend to rely upon the "tried and true" AKA traditional ideology.

Xenophobia is a natural human survival trait bred into us from a million years on the African plains. It takes education to overcome our natural inclinations to be wary of anything or anyone new or different. Overcoming this natural inclination is as important as overcoming our desire to murder others to get what we want.
