German president says Trump’s ‘America First’ policy creates unstable world

German president says Trump'''s America First policy creates unstable world
MUNICH — Germany’s president kicked off the annual Munich Security Conference on Friday by taking a swipe at President Donald Trump’s “America First” foreign policy approach.

In his opening remarks, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier warned that the United States would put its own interests first at the expense of allies.

“Our closest ally, the United States of America, under the current administration, rejects the very concept of the international community,” he said. ”‘Great again’ but at the expense of neighbors and partners,” Steinmeier added without naming Trump but referring to his “Make America Great Again” campaign slogan.

“Thinking and acting this way hurts us all,” he said.

“In this scenario, the security of one is the insecurity of others,” he said, adding that European leaders must create a unified policy to deal with increasing threats posed by Russia and China.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Does anyone remember when Trump stunned our European allies at the United Nations three years ago when he pronounced a nationalistic approach to global policies for the U.S. by proclaiming 'America first'? The consequences of the kinds of actions by Trump will come back to haunt us eventually. Putting “America First” shouldn’t mean screwing over everyone else.

The U.S. is no longer reliable. Other countries can’t base their defenses on the idea that we will be there in the same numbers, or even at all. That pacts and treaties can be tossed out the window. Why would any country make agreements with us at all? They won’t trust us for at least two more presidents, assuming they’re more sensible than Trump has been. In the end, Trump's 'America first' policy works to betray American self interest.

Steinmeier is correct. Isolationism helps nobody; least of all when a nation relies on 'allies' (unimportant, according to Trump), to help out as America frequently does. If he wants to go it alone I'm sure he won't mind losing the facility we offered to, and which is currently occupied by, the NSA:

It won't (as a juicy target for Russian nukes), be missed.

You cannot make this stuff up; a new standard for extreme/bizarre irony is established.

Amexit. From int'l orgs, from ally relationships, from trade, from everything Obama, from everything unless branded/rebranded "Trump".

Would somebody please tell me what other countries ever do for us. They are always whining about what we should do for them, what money we should send, what military protection we provide. We have been patsies and Trump is changing the game and that is good.

And your posts become more bizarre and incoherent.

To those who choose blindness, the world is a sea of incoherent black...

Incredible that this needs to be explained, and the explanation will, of course, have no effect.

But what the hey! :)

The silver medalist denounces the winner of the gold, declaring the victory & victor dangerous, all the while ignoring his own past history of notorious & depraved mass murder.

Will China decry US mistreatment of US factory workers next?

Or perhaps Trump will make a call for civility in politics?

Truly, the irony and hypocrisy - and willful blindness to it - are without peer.

What can one say but "liberals."

Germany is APPALLED that ANY nation or people would consider itself better than any other.

Why, it's unprecedented - especially in their experience.

The slogan “America First” has always been closely associated with the ideologies of American nationalism, nativism, unilateralism, protectionism, and isolationism and damn everyone else. In contemporary politics, it is also a racist dog whistle. “America First” has been used as a major slogan by the Ku Klux Klan and other white supremacist groups ever since the 1920s. Donald Trump may be an idiot, but there is no way he didn't understand what the “America First” slogan meant when he chose it. He picked the slogan deliberately in order to appeal to white supremacist groups and those with white supremacist sympathies, to promote protectionism and isolating foreign policies.

'America First' means isolating America from the rest of the world until we are "great again", whatever that means. How will it be measured? Until then, taxes on imports, which just means our exports will be taxed, no more military aid to allies, no more humanitarian aid if as an example an earthquake in Turkey kills 10,000 people, well, the rest of the world can help out, the US won't. Trump is an isolationist. He doesn't want foreign trade unless we tax them. He doesn't want foreigners in the US period - whether they are there legally or illegally. He treats anyone who doesn't support his views as criminals and wants to prosecute them and 'lock them up. Get used to living in a banana republic everyone because that's exactly where you've all landed us today.

It is lunacy to suggest that a country that puts its success as a primary goal cannot (and in our case does not) participate in the global economy, at the good of the world. Lunacy. Stupidity.

not shocked people buy into the rhetoric.

Get back to us when we stop sending economic aid to 200 foreign countries.

Or, when we no longer keep the shipping lanes open for the rest of the free world.

Or, when we stop rendering emergency assistance to world wide crisis situations.

Or, pull, out of NATO.

Your freak show never ends.

For example? We gave you the facilities at RAF Menwith Hill in England to establish your NSA spy station. We supply troops, arms and intelligence to help with your never-ending belligerence. You asked for help after Katrina's devastation. We answered your call, and then some. Don't ever assume that nobody does anything for America. Instead I recommend an education for you.

He doesn't give any examples of how Trump's policy is hurting Germany.

The German president is just political grandstanding similar to what Trump does.

Putting this into current holiday perspective, you speak like a box of Valentine candy. 'Look at me how wonderful and pretty I am. I'm colorful and wear a bright bow', but the box doesn't care what's under the lid of the box. It could be candy, it could be worms. Appearances are only what other people present to you and has no bearing at all on what's truth or fact.

Three years ago, despite Trump's statement at the United Nations to make 'America first', our U.S. allies stood firm in their commitment to the U.S. as our longtime allies, despite Trump. Much like someone who 'tolerates' their neighbor’s puppy constantly crapping in their backyard. They hoped Trump would grow up and change and be a responsible grownup.

Since that day, our allies and enemies alike have been aggressively gearing up to replace the once-great US since Trump turned it away from the global arena. China and France is replacing us in green energy. China and EU are replacing us as financial leaders. In fact, the Trump administration trade policy is the misstep that China really needed to get a push in their industry and economy especially in the realm of green energy. This is bringing them many years closer to surpassing the US as the economic superpower. Some would argue that such has already happened, but the world bank still uses the U.S. dollar as international currency despite China wanting its currency, the yuan, to replace the U.S. dollar as the world's global currency. That would give it more control over its economy. As China's economic might grows, it's taking steps to make that happen.

Most other countries have reacted as would be expected. They are still allies, but have lost respect for our decision making and error-corrections process and openly mocked our bad move. Anyone who still believes that Trump's 'America First' policy is beneficial in any way to the welfare of this nation and to the world, they are profoundly misinformed.

Maybe, when u stop bashing America.

America is failing because too many people either cant or wont behave better, and either cant or wont do better work.....bashing America is at this point justified and necessary.

People need to wake up before it is too late.

Steinmeier is a pal and was Aussenminister (Secretary of State) for the anti-American Schroeder and good friend of Putin. **** him.

He **** on the US and Bush43 all through Iraq... and then when Bush left office, the slob went to Iraq to drum up business for Germany a month later. The parasite.

He’s an arrogant prick, and typical of Europeans... they’ve been wrong about virtually every major political question since WWII. He’s wrong again... as usual.

They tried to humanize the turd by by calling him “Frank” when he ran for office against Merkel. That’s like trying to claim a pig is human.

And the Germans still don’t pay their 2% of GDP to NATO and haven’t for ages. When they pay... then perhaps they should talk about the concept of the international community... the ****ing idiots.

Those assholes have lived from our blood and treasure... the ****ing Freeloaders.

I just wish Charles Manson were alive to scold men who mistreat & try to control the women in their lives.

Like Germany, he certainly occupied the moral high ground to lecture others.

Why is it you liberals have so much trouble understanding basic things? America first should be the norm. It should be how EVERY American president approaches every issue,
